Try disabling your computer's security software during the downloading and installation. I found that rebooting my router and modem helped too.

when I try to update the IOS version on my ipod touch 3rd gen. it goes through the whole process then says "unkown error occurred (-1.) unable to restore ipod"

So I have my 3rd gen iPod touch and i have tried to update it several times with errors telling me that iTunes timed out or with the 3091 error code (i think its the 3091 its the highest error code with 3000) and i have redownloaded itunes rebooted my computer used a different computer and i cant get it to update/ or even restore is there another way to get it to restore? I don't care if all my stuff gets deleted id rather have a fresh start anyway. I am at ios 4.3.5 and wanted to update it up to the new ios 5

You have a 2G iPod. Apple only made 32 and 64 GB 3G iPods. When the 3G iPods were introduced, the 8GB 2G iPods were continued to be sold with the same updated iOS as the 3G ipods. It is a common error to think that users purchased a 8GB 3G ipod. Sorry.

You have a 2G iPod. Apple only made 32 and 64 GB 3G iPods. When the 3G iPods were introduced, the 8GB 2G iPods were continued to be sold with the same updated iOS as the 3G ipods. It is a common error to think that users purchased a 8GB 3G ipod. Sorry.

Unfortunately your iPod is really a 2nd generation unit and can not be upgraded beyond 4.2.1. Apple did not make an 8gB 3rd generation iPod Touch.

So after updating my ipod touch 3rd gen to 4.3.1 i noticed a lag everytime i turn it back on. it stays on the lock screen for minutes sometimes hours. the screen is usually unresponsive the only things usually changing are the time and battery percentage.

so aafter upsating my touch to 4.3.1 i have noticed everytime i restart the ipod there is a huge lag at the lock screen. the screen only updates itself every three to five minutes only updating the time and battery status. i cannot do anything, usually it will stay like this for minutes sometimes hours. i have tried restoring it and thought updating will fix the problem but it hasn't yet. i currently have ios 4.3.3. recently i had a friend look into the ipod and he told me on a folder called damaged files he found this, 37c3ad com.apple.autowake.plist. how can i fix this?

I did a little re search and found lots of people were having problems but i found none like mine. Whenever i open itunes nothing comes up telling me about an update and when I press "check for update" it says the current version is 4.2.1! I've already tried restoring my ipod and just downloading the ios update and updating it myself but when i do that it says "the ipod could not be updated because the firmware file is not compatible". I already have my itunes up to date (10.5) and i have no clue what could be wrong.

- I say that you have a 2G iPod. If it is either 8 or 16 GB it is a 2G. A 32 GB can be either a 2G or 3G. To identify yours see:

The iOS update made the iPod less tolerent of marginal/fake Lightning cables. All you can do is get a certified Lightning cable. I would get a genuine Apple cable.

You appear to have a second generation iPod touch, not a third, and those can't be updated past 4.2.1. Apple sold 8GB second generation models at the same time as the third generation ones.

because you do not have a 3rd generation device. The OS Version says so , otherwise you would be at 4.3.5 minimum and also Itunes is also always correct in determining if you have the latest OS ( if not it fetches the newest from Apple's Servers ) . And because a 2nd generation iPod stops at 4.2.1 you can't get the newest OS, because your device is old. Buy a new iPod , they have iOS5 preinstalled.

HELP. Ipod Touch 3rd gen won't switch on after updating to OS 4

So here's the thing. I tried to download and install the new OS 4 (i think i had iOS 3.1 before) to my Ipod Touch 3rd gen. Since it was taking a bit too long, i left it hooked up to the laptop for an hour to do some errands. When I got back, the laptop was on standby mode. I checked Itunes and it had this prompt saying update failed or an error occurred (#1602 I think but I don't know what it meant that time). I then checked my Ipod Touch and it was switched off. So we figured maybe the battery got drained while we were gone and tried to plug it via AC charge for 10 minutes. Nothing happened. I tried to hook it up to the laptop, no luck there either. The charger worked fine for an Ipod video we also have. I'm scouring the webs for what to do, Im getting worried. hope someone can help me in this. Thank you.
(and additional question. I'm here in the Philippines right now but this Ipod Touch was my sister's, I think she bought this last year in the US. She just sent it to me this month. First I would charge it for an hour and then:
- Have you tried resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
- Next would be to place the ipod n recovery mode and then try to restore it via iTunes. For recovery mode see:
