I cant update my mac

when I try to update safari i get a volume not supported message but when i try to update mac osx 10.6.3 I cant because of a "an error occurred while evaluating javascript for the package" also when I try to update my mac from the apple->software update my mac says all my applications are up to date.
So how do i fix this.

Pop the one that's labeled Mac OS X Install DVD, restart holding down the C key, select your language, and follow the steps. On first boot you should have the OS version and build that shipped with the machine. Details on it are in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1159 Once the machine restarts, follow the steps I outlined above.

Your best bet at this point then is to contact iTunes Support and get them to straighten this out for you:

Select the options that best apply to your issue. You will have a chance to provide a written description before you submit. iTunes Support will get back to you via email, usually within 24 hours. Be sure to check your Junk/Spam email folder if you don't hear back by then.
They should be able to sort it out for you...

HI, sadly 10.5.8 doesn't support the newest iTunes.
First you need to research all the problems people are having with the higher OSX versions, & make sure you have a bootable clone of what you have just in case.
then you must get 10.6 if they still have it, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.
Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
General requirements
   * Mac computer with an Intel processor
    * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
    * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
    * DVD drive for installation
    * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
    * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

If you really mean upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6 and beyond, first check if your Mac can handle it:

Every time I go to update any apple software, currently trying to the new versions of OSX and itunes but every time I ask to get the update It downloads it all with no problem and goes through most of the installation and at what seems like the last minute it comes back and says "there was an error and the update cannot be continued". It does this every time, we are talking about 5-10 repetitions here. ANY help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Also, unless you have a Core2duo (CoreDuo and CoreSolo are not Core2Duo), i3, i5, or i7 processor, you can't upgrade past 10.6.8.

Yes you need to replace the internal HD, however before you do this or ANYTHING else backup your computer using either Time Machine or SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. If you don't have a backup you will lose all of your data which includes music, photos, movies, financial infomation etc.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first.

What version of iPhoto are you using? 9.6 is the current version.
Do a backup.
Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
