I Cant view thumbnail versions of Raw Files (.arw) in finder when i upgraded to Lion.
It worked in Snow Leopard without a problem.
Any Solutions?

Ben,
I also take photos with a sony DSLR. Not a professional one but theAlpha700.
So this was one annoying issue.
But, I haven't found the reason why, after a few days the problem returned.
This happened after setting up my preferences. When we do this, some how, the preferences file becomes 'corrupted' or changes any bit/byte that interferes with icon display.
But if we repeat the process (delete prefs files), things become all right again.
hope this helps.

    How to update Camera Raw

  • Does this version support raw files?

does this version support raw files?

Kind of. Any RAW files can be imported by uploading them to Creative Cloud first. Even then, it's very basic; just importing and working with images like other image types; no RAW adjustments like those available in Camera Raw or Lightroom.
Note this implies to existing supported camera RAW files. I'm not sure about brand-new cameras. (Usually, Adobe gets around to those cameras but it's not immediate.) Try it anyway if you're not sure.

The first thing I did was UPDATE. I have all the latest updates available (according to the updater). The Camera Raw Plug-in says it is version 8.0.
The RAW files are from a Canon T3i. It's a very common camera, I can't believe it wouldn't be supported.

  • How do you process a RAW file ARW (from a Sony a7R camera) in Elements 11?

How do you process a RAW file (ARW) from Sony a7R camera in Elements 11? Elements 11 does not seem to accept a ARW file.

    Doug2014
For editing of the Sony a7R raw image in Photoshop Elements Camera Raw need the following ingredients
    a. The Camera Raw version must support the camera that you are using, that is, the Sony a7R. Support for that camera did not come until Camera Raw version 8.3.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    b. The version of Camera Raw must be supported by the version of Photoshop Elements. Camera Raw 8.3 is not supported until Photoshop Elements 12.
The choices would appear to be:
    a. Switch to Photoshop Elements 12
    or
    b. Use the DNG Converter to convert the Raw image to .dng
If all you have is Premiere Elements 11 which I do not think is the case, the Camera Raw plug-in allows you only to import the raw or dng image into the project for inclusion there - no Camera Raw dialog editing. But the same Camera Raw version - Camera Support - Premiere Elements version support still exists.
    Please review.
    Thanks.

  • Cannot import NEX-6 raw file (ARW)

I downloaded a Sony NEX-6 raw file (ARW) from dpreview to check out the image quality. But, Aperture does not "see" the file at all.
I have the latest Aperture 3.5.1 with Digital Camera Raw 5.04 (and Maverick) – and I have a Sony A700, with no problem importing raw files from that. According to Aperture support page there "should" be no problem with the NEX-6 camera.
Anyone know how to solve this?
    Best regards, Magnus

So I tried with draging the image to the Aperture icon in the Dock – and that worked!   And, if I first uploaded the file to Dropbox, and then downloaded it again – then Aperture "can see" the file and I can import the image the usual way
Great voodoo, Magnus - did you swing a chicken over the mac as well? I am glad you could solve the problem.
Trying an explanation of what might have happenend:
Aperture probably will have hidden the image in the Import panel, because it erraniously recognized it as duplicate or an excluded file type because of a problematic file signature. Dragging to the Dock icon is forcing the import, even of duplicates or excluded file types.
And adding to DropBox and then downloading again may change file attributes. DropBox is syncing the files with the server and creating new copies. This may change the file signatures.
Added:  There is one thing, that is a bit disconcerting about the solution you now are having.  If you have to "convert" your raws by sending them to DropBox to fix the file signatures, or circumvent the Import panel by dragging to the Dock icon, there may be a problem with your "Import Presets.plist" or other cached preference files.
If the problem happens again, quit Aperture and trash this file "/Users/your shourt user name/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Import Presets.plist". Then reboot the system.

  • Thumbnail Preview for RAW Files Not Appearing in Bridge

    Hello,
I'm running Adobe Bridge 5.1 on a Mac OS 10.9.2 (recently upgraded to Maverick) and I can no longer see thumbnail previews for my RAW files (which include .NEF, .CR2 and .RAF) though as of a few days ago this wasn't a problem. Not sure if it's related to the Maverick upgrade... but FYI, I do see thumbnail previews for .TIFF and .JPEG files.
I've already purged my cache generally and have also as a test chosen a local file to purge - that didn't work.
I've restarted Bridge at least 2x by pressing and holding the Option key.
I've also checked for Bridge updates - everything is up to date.
My Cache Options (within Preferences) are set to "Keep 100% Previews in Cache" and "Automatically Export Cache to Folders When Possible" - both checked.
Also downloaded the Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter 8.3, installed it but that didn't work.
I can't seem to find my Bridge cache folder or at least what's in the Library's "Caches" folder doesn't include anything for Bridge - see screenshot below.
Please help! Thank you in advance.

To me it seems related to your Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) converter. Clue inhere is you only miss the Raw files and have no problems in seeing other formats like jpeg and tiff.
The screenshot you delivered is from the wrong library, however, this same library (the one on system level) also is the location where you should be able to view the correct version of your ACR plugin. The path: library (same as per your screenshot)/Application support/ Adobe/ Plug ins/ CS6/ File Formats. inhere should be only one version of Camera Raw (called: "Camera Raw.plugin") and this should show version 8.3 (141).
I'm not sure about your bridge version number, Bridge 5 comes with PSCS6 but my most recent version of Bridge is 5.0.2.4.
Anyway, if you have only one ACR (8.3) installed in the above mentioned path then you might want to try to delete the Bridge plist file and Bridge cache file manually.
For this you have to Quit Bridge and find the user library (by default hidden, use menu Go in Finder and press option key to reveal).
Inhere find the plist file (user(your user name) / library / Preferences  and inhere find and manually delete the file called: "com.adobe.bridge5.plist"
The in same user library find Bridge Cache. User/Library/Caches/Adobe/Bridge CS6. Inhere are 2 files, the adobe Bridge plug in cache and the folder called Cache. delete (or move outside libray) both items.
The restart Bridge (If needed also again hold option key to reset preferences) and this will create fresh files for the previous deleted items, leaving you with an almost out of the box factory set version of Bridge.

  • PSE 6 Thumbnails and downloading raw files

    I am having two problems.
The first is the thumbnails in the organiser appear as hour glasses until there are just four thumbnails shown in the window. If the number of thumbnails is increased the pictures are lost and each shows an hour glass. At the bottom of the screen  a box reads sorting thumbnails but nothing happens . I am working on a pc with windows xp home.  Any ideas what I am doing wrong please.
My second problem is that having just bought a canon 500D camera PSE will not recognise raw files. I can download them with the canon software but can not import them either into the organiser or the editor. Again any ideas please.

Re the PSE 6 thumbnails, see this FAQ:

Re raw files from your 500D, you'll need to update the Camera Raw plug-in to the latest version (5.6):

  • OM-D: how to view entire 4:3 RAW file when aspect ratio set in-camera to 3:2?

When shooting RAW, the OM-D records 4:3 files no matter what the aspect ratio is set to.  If you set it to 3:2 (for example), the camera records some sort of metadata to communicate this information to Lightroom, which honors the setting.  So far, so good.
My question is, is there any way to override that setting? I have a photo shot at 3:2, but I can see from the in-camera preview that it'd be a better shot with the whole thing. But I can't figure out how to get LR 4.1rc2 to show me the whole thing!
    Thanks,
    Ben

Unfortunately, there is no way in LR directly. You may be able to restore the settings directly in the raw file using exiftool (tags "aspectratio" and "aspectframe", there are instructions in some forums I think), but it is generally not advisable to manipulate original raws that way (at least, a backup should be made).

  • Aperture Unable to process RAW files even though finder shows a preview

I have recently upgraded to Aperture 3.0 which decided to delete my library. Using PhotoRec i am slowly recovering all of my files.
The files that have been recovered are .cr2 files and .jpg files. The jpegs display fine without a problem however every 2 out of 3 cr2 RAW files will not import into iPhoto, Aperture or pretty much any other RAW processing software. Aperture just says "Unsupported File Type".
My issue is that Finder is showing a preview of the image in the icon, and is showing a preview in CoverFlow, but everything refuses to open the file. This must surley mean that the data is still intact within the .cr2 file? else Finder would be unable to display the preview of the file?
Does anyone know how to fix this or what could be causing this issue?
Apple please, please fix this issue with Aperture, I fear that I have lost a lot of photos in this process.
    Please help!

Aarthek - the Canon PowerShot G2 is not supported centrally on your Mac.
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
I've just finished importing my old archive produced by this camera. What I did was to produce fresh JPEGs (medium quality, so low file size) in the same directory as the original RAW images. I happen to have Photoshop CS3 and could easily do these in batches, but worst case, you should still have Canon's ImageBrowser suite which could do this. I then imported the JPGs for cataloguing, keywording, etc. Then, if I want to do some serious work on an image from my G2, I'll right-click the image and select +Show in Finder+ and get straight to my corresponding RAW image which I can then process in Photoshop.
but I don't understand why the thumbnail shows up when I'm importing as though there are no issues.
There's a small embedded JPG in the RAW files and that's what you're seeing. I think that's also what you saw on the G2's display when you were out shooting and stopped to review an image in the field.

    Gary

  • I cannot see Nikon D610 raw file preview in Finder.

I can see and develop my Nikon D610 RAW file in iPhoto (latest version v 9.4.3) but surprisingly I cannot see them in the Finder (preview, icon preview, etc).
I have tried to fix it by downloading the latest Digital Raw upgrade file (5.0.2 and even 5.0.1) but the setup program refuses to launch arguing I don't have iPhoto 9.4.3 or Aperture 3.4.5
But I have iPhoto 9.4.3. I have even redownloaded it from Appstore and reinstall it but without sucess.
And to add to the complexity, I tested the NEF file with another mac (same OS version, same iPhoto version) and it works well. So I don't understand what is going wrong with my iMac
Any idea how to solve this issue ?
Many thanks in advance for your help
    Emmanuel

Problem solved. My iPhoto application was in a folder, which is preventing Digital Raw update from seeing it and therefore preventing the install.
After having put back iPhoto into the main Application folder, I have been able to reinstall digital raw update (5.0.1 and then 5.0.2, as 5.0.1 deals with my d610 and 5.0.2 is the latest version). Once install, I can see the preview in the finder as I wanted

  • Sony a77 raw files look noisy/grainy when opened on cs6?

    HI
i'm having problems with my images looking quite harsh when opening the raw files, this didn't happen on the trial version, i've only just got the cs6 from adobe so is there a setting i need to change?
    thanks Andy

You misinterpreted me.  I meant that without seeing what you're seeing it's hard to provide accurate help, and that answers would be more like "shots in the dark".
Can you please post a photograph (or small crop from one)?  Perhaps even a link to a representative raw file, with which someone else could try and reproduce what you're seeing.

  • Raw files won't import when shot in raw+jpg

I just shot in raw+jpg for the first time. Lightroom 4 won't import the raw file but will import the jpg. It says something like "lightroom doesn't support this raw file format". I don't get it though because if I shoot in just raw it will import fine.

If your camera is supported by current version of Lightroom, then the raw file(s) should import.
So, is Canon EOS Rebel XS 1000D supported by Lr4.3? If so, it should go (assuming you've got 4.3 installed), if no go, a bug report should be submitted, promptly, at:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/new
If not, consider a feature request ('Idea', for camera support) using same link.

  • HT201070 Any more news on support of Sony RX1 RAW files in Mac Finder?

    -Tom

Bridge writes metadata to sidecar XMP file for raw files. I would doubt that iphoto can read the xmp file, but I don't know for sure.
EDIT but one thing to check is to be sure that you are creating sidecar files and not writing to a central database. The setting is in the Camera Raw preferences (click the little square with the lines on it over the preview area in the raw converter).
