I changed my Apple ID last night but the iPad still has the old one and won't take the new password either.

How the heck do I get my iPad to take the new Id?  I can't dowload anything or update anything.  I thought when I changed it and my password last night that the iPad would be set up with the new info.

No, it does not change automatically. For starters, go to Settings> iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Sign out of the old ID and sign in with the changed ID. That will allow you to start downloading content and updating apps again.
