I changed my email address/apple id now cannot update apps

I am sure there is an easy answer to this. I had to change my email address and filled in all the details on line with apple. Now, however, when I try to download anything from the apps store on my ipod it still has my previous ID and when I try to update anything in my library on my laptop it won't update using my new ID as it says it was purchased by someone else

After changing it did you go to Settings>iTunes and App Store and sign out and sign back in?

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, and your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

Go to System Preferences and click Sign Out, select Delete at all the prompts, then sign back in with the changed ID? (Your iCloud data will disappear from your Mac when you sign out and choose Delete, but will still be in iCloud. Provided you are signing back into the same account your data will reappear on your Mac when you sign back in.)

Easy fix... it's a refresh issue. Sign out and back in with changed name.

I changed my Apple ID email address & password and now cannot log out of or into iCloud on my phone

The email address for my Apple ID became unreliable (bad hosting). I went into iTunes and then into the Apple site to change it. The site required me to change my (very old) password. I did so. I removed the new address as my recovery email address, because I could not change the main email to the same address as the recovery address. I re-verified the (new) address.
So that worked great! Except that it's completely broken iCloud and the App Store my iPhone.
The App Store on my iPhone 4S (Model MD276LL/A running iOS 7.1.2) does not recognize my Apple ID as having purchased anything, including the 100+ apps I've gotten and downloaded over time. It does recognize that apps need updates.
I'm also now getting notifications for iCloud on that same phone, which asks me to log into the old account. If I go to the Settings to delete the iCloud account on that device (as the support site tells me), it asks for the password for the old email address (as the support site tells me), but it will not recognize either the old *or* the new password.
I have updated iCloud on my Mac just fine. My iPad Mini, which was attached to my employer's iCloud account by mistake, has made the transition smoothly and recognizes my old account's purchases. My iPhone is stuck, though, and now I can't text (iMessage is confused) or use other iCloud features.

and I cannot change it on my iPad (1st gen) or my iPhone (4). I researched answers on here and was told to go to settings/itunesappstore then log out and log back in. On the phone, it shows my current apple Id, but my iCloud still shows my old email/id and won't let me change it. On the iPad, there is no heading called itunes/appstore to select and I cannot change my ID in Icloud either. Can anyone please tell me how to change this? My ID is correct on all other Apple functions/apps. The phone is OS 7.1.1 and ipad is OS 5.1.1 (will not allow me to update this ipad to anything beyond this OS)

I tried this, and when I get to the part where it says "you can now use your current password" it won't let me use my current password!
If your new ID was changed (renamed) from your old ID rather than being an entirely new ID, recreate it by going to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Changed e-mail on apple id now cannot connect with imessage

Hi,
I recently changed the e-mail associated with my apple ID since I no longer use the other e-mail. I then tried to link this with my imessage and it asked me to log in with my old e-mail address and I cannot change it. I put in the password (which I haven't changed) and it didn't work. I now no longer can send imessages.

I have had that problem. I had an apple I'd as we'll not associated with my email. Once I put it on there I had to buy the apps again. Very upset that I have to pay for app om my iPhone and then turn around and buy the same app for iPad or IPod. This issue with it not accepting my password no matter how many times I change it is very frustrating. Took my password to ask the question but it won't to buy an app! Maybe I will just save my money.

You can't merge Apple IDs. You also can't cancel (delete) and existing ID, you can only choose to stop using it.
If your old ID was compromised and you can no longer access it, you'll have to contact Apple for assistance. What id shows in Settings > iTunes & App Store ? If it's the old one then tap on it and log out of it and then log in with the updated version

If you've updated the primary email address on your account then tap on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and log out of it and then log back in with the updated version.

I recently had to change my email address to a gmail address and my itunes login on my iphone still uses my old email address.

After going tthrough a recent change with my internet provider, I was forced to change my email address. I now use gmail for my mail. With my new gmail address, I went to itunes and updated my account to reflect my new email addess. At the same time, I also just bought a brand new iphone4s and got it all squared away.
Here's my problem; Now that I've changed my itunes account to the new gmail address, whenever I try to buy an app for my phone or access itunes on my phone, the popup window for me to log into itunes shows my I.D. as my old email address. Now I can't log into itunes or buy an app for my phone.
Can somebody please tell me how to fix this??

I had the same problem. I tried everything I could think of, and I was just about to reset my iPad. The last thing I tried was giving in and telling the App store app that I'd forgotten my password. It took me through the password change process (for the old email address), and now it's downloading and updating apps normally.
It's still using my old email address in the iPad store app, but it works, and it syncs with iTunes on my Macbook with no problem.
