I changed my phone number but my iMessage still sends using my old number

I changed my number to a new area code. However, whenever I message a contact, they receive the message from my old cell phone number. When I go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, it lists my email address and my old cell phone number. However, there is no way for me to change the number listed. Anyone have any idea how to fix this? My mobile carrier was of no help (obviously)...

Add a contact with his e-mail address, and send a message to that contact. I would say integrate, but not 100% that it works. A new contact would work.

I understand all of this Meg; that is why I bought an Iphone; but never expected my phone not even give a at least a 24 or even 12 hours....I work 12 hour shifts and also would expect to have to charge each night but not twice a day or more. I am not always somewhere I can charge my phone.

It sounds like you are unable to change the phone number that Messages is sending messages from because it is grayed out. I recommend the steps outlined in the following article named:

Unlink a phone number
To remove a phone number from an Apple ID, sign out of FaceTime and Messages on your iPhone:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with FaceTime and Messages. If the phone number is still available on other devices after you sign out of FaceTime and iMessage on the iPhone, you may need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your devices, then sign in to FaceTime and Messages again on devices you want to use.
Note: If you no longer have access to the iPhone that is using the number you want to remove, reset your Apple ID password.

I understand that you have changed your phone number but your iCloud Keychain verification number is still your old phone number. You can edit this phone number in your iCloud settings on your iPhone. Please use the attached article for information on the process.

Make sure that the correct phone number is associated with your account:
In iOS 8, tap Settings > iCloud > Keychain > Advanced. In iOS 7, tap Settings > iCloud > Account > Keychain. Make sure the phone number under Verification Number is correct. If not, enter another phone number.

When using the iPhone with the Windows OS, you need to have the Apple Mobile Device Service running. It should start automatically when you start the computer, but sometimes things happen. Use this support document to try and restart the service. See if that helps.

Turn off Find My iPhone in iCloud on the iDevice.
Log out of iMessage, Facetime, remove Apple ID from iTunes & App Store.
Use Settings > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
Then set it up as a new iPhone with your own Apple ID.

I blocked a number, but yet i still get calls?

I blocked my ex's number, but yet i still get calls by him. I blocked him about 5 days ago and nothing happened but today i got 6 calls in the matter of 30 minutes. And when i check my recent calls, his name or number isnt there. Can anyone tell me if this is just a glitch in the system or what is going on! Thank you!

All blocking does is to prevent the phone from ringing by sending the call to voicemail. They can still leave a message in voicemail.
There is no way to actually block a call, this is something that may be done on the carrier level.

I figured it out! I changed my email & password at the icloud site, then when I deleted the icloud account on my iphone - it still showed my old email but when i typed in my current password it went through. I was then able to sign back in with my current email and password. That was too easy for the amount of time I have put into this! Glad its finally fixed.

You should contact Apple support and ask them to deregister iMessage for the old number.

Somewhat much later query but I do have a related one. I've purchased my iPad 2 in India in October past. Using an adaptor for Canada I seem to have no problems charging it. Now I'm travelling to Chile and I see there is a 'similarity' in the two prongs on the electrical cord which came with the iPad (India) AND a similar pair of dual prongs used in Chile. I note Chile also uses a 3 - prong (horizontal) outlet. Query - Should I have any concern re the different currents used ; Canada 120V - 60 Hz versus Chile 220 - 50 Hz, or as noted earlier the iPad takes care of that with its built in converter.
