If you are only updating apps, that's normal Apps and other purchased media are permanently tied to the ID used to purchase them. You also don't back up apps or music to iCloud, the only thing backed up to iCloud is your app data, which is part of your iCloud backup by default.
Is your phone signed into the old ID in Settings>iCloud?

First you need to authorize your MBA with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.
With your iPad connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPad. This will transfer/copy all iTunes content on your iPad that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
Photos on your iPad that were transferred from your old computer need to be transferred from your old computer to your MBA.
Before syncing contacts with the Address Book and calendar events with iCal if you aren't syncing this content over the air with an iCloud account, enter one contact in the Address Book and one calendar event in iCal on your MBA. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provided a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can be imported by your MBA with iPhoto or the Image Capture application.

If your iPod touch music is in your iTunes library, you just need to sync the new iPod nano with iTunes, the songs will be transfer to your new iPod. There is no other way you can do now. Actually, you don't need to create a new Apple ID account, you can change the Apple ID from old email account to other email accout easily by all the steps below.
1, Open iTunes > iTunes Store > log in old Apple ID > Click on your apple ID on the right hand side on top > choose account > Apple ID > Edit
As long as you only change your Apple ID, then all the old apps are still under your new email account as well as you can keep downloading new apps.

Does your email provider have a limit on the total file size allowed on their server? It could be that emails with photos send in the past are still on your email server. They might even be in the servers trash folder. If the total MB of those emails exceeds the amount allowed then no additional emails can be received. Try using a web mail page to check and edit what's on the email server.

When I set up the icloud I was using my then email address. My email address has now changed.
I tried to access under the old email address to change it to a new email address but I couldn't remember the security questions and as I can't access the old email address, I can't change it. So to solve the problem I set up a new account under the new email address. The only problem is my iphone is still asking for the old email address password which doesn't work.

Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with one Apple ID with a new Apple ID.

I have an Adobe Creative Cloud account associated with a student email account I don't have access to anymore. When trying to login to Creative Cloud, Adobe told me to reset my password and sent a link to my student email to reset it. But I can't get into that email, and can't send the password info to another email. I want to reset my password, log in to my Adobe account, and change my email to a relevant one.
