you need to contact the provider of your old phone and find out 1) if the provider unlocks phones and 2) what the procedure is to get the phone unlocked.

I am planning to buy an iphone 4 or 4s in saudi arabia. can i use it in India with a different sim card? plz reply

Yep, but you won't have any warranty or support for this phone in India, nor will you have FaceTime. FaceTime has been permanently removed from all iPhones purchased from official sources in Saudi Arabia.

  • If i bought an unlocked iphone 5s in the us would i be able to use it in portugal with a vodafone sim card?

i want to buy the iphone 5s and i just want to make sure i can use it in portugal with my vodafone sim card

The LTE/4G bands will be different, the warranty is only valid in the country of purchase (Apple will not accept shipment from outside the country) and by the time you pay the taxes and import duties it may end up costing the same as in Portugal.

  • BlackBerry phone to be used in a country with a different SIM card

    Hello Everyone
I have got a BB phone which was purchased through o2 retailer (english mobile operator) in the United Kingdom as I lived there for a long time. I am back in Italy where I hoped to continue and use it by simply inserting an italian SIM card. I tested few SIM cards of friends and went to an italian retailer (Vodafone which is also known in UK) but apparently my BB doesn't recognize the new SIMs becuase it is probably clocked by o2... Does anyone know whether it can be fixed somehow? Or do I have to go back to o2? Or what are the possibilities.
Thank you all very much for your help.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
There's nothing to add to your BB per se. Using the BB-specific services is a matter of your carrier providing those to you. And there are some things that must happen for them to do so.
Any BB can be used on any carrier that runs the same radio frequencies that the BB is capable of (and I've no idea if your's are such). But, to bring a BB onto a carrier network that they did not sell to you, there are several hurdles to cross:
    1) The carrier must say "yes" to the fact...they own their network and have every right to say what devices will be allowed to connect to it. If they say "no", then that's the end of it.
    2) You must be sure that your BB is properly unlocked from it's originally manufactured-for carrier...see this helpful thread for details:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/General-BlackBerry-Functions-and/Unlocking-your-BlackBerry-Gu...
    3) You must get all of your voice level services functioning on the carrier, before you even try anything about data
    4) You must subscribe, from the carrier, to an adequate data plan to enable the BB-proprietary services you desire
5a) If the carrier directly supports your specific model BB, then you can proceed with registering the BB onto their network, generating the proper Service Book delivery to your BB, and proceeding to function.
5b) But, if the carrier does not directly support your specific model number of BB, then the challenges are much greater as most carrier systems will not deliver, to the BB, the necessary service books to enable the BB-proprietary data services, even if you do subscribe to them.
So, depending on all of that, your BB may or may not ever fully function on that carrier network. It can be quite tricky to accomplish, especially if 5b applies. So take a look at all of that and decide how you wish to proceed. Most folks wind up just buying a new BB if 5b applies.
Good luck and let us know!

  • If i buy a sim-free iphone 5s in America, can i use it in China with a Chinese sim card?

i've bought a sim-free iphone 5s  in apple store in America but i am worried that i cannot use it with a Chinese sim card. Can someone help me?
    Thank you very much!

The iPhone is sold as "unlocked and contract-free" when purchasing that option from the Apple Store, though Apple's verbiage is using "unlocked" and "SIM-free" rather interchangeably:
The unlocked iPhone includes all the features of iPhone but without a wireless contract commitment. You can activate and use the unlocked iPhone on the supported GSM wireless network of your choice, such as AT&T or T-Mobile in the United States. The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA-based carriers, including Sprint and Verizon Wireless.
If you don’t want a multiyear service contract, or if you prefer to use a local carrier when traveling abroad, the unlocked iPhone is the best choice. If you choose T-Mobile, your iPhone comes with a T-Mobile SIM card already installed. You will need to contact T-Mobile or visit an Apple Retail Store to activate your iPhone.
Otherwise, the unlocked iPhone does not come with a micro-SIM card for iPhone 4s, or a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s so you’ll need to get one from any supported GSM carrier worldwide. To start using your iPhone, simply insert the SIM card into the slot and turn on iPhone by pressing and holding the On/Off button for a few seconds. Then follow the onscreen instructions to set up your iPhone.
Purchasing an unlocked iPhone means you will not qualify for the lower iPhone price associated with a contract. The unlocked iPhone 5c model is A1532 (GSM). The unlocked iPhone 5s model is A1533 (GSM).
To help decide whether the locked or unlocked option is right for you, compare wireless service plans. Or call our iPhone Specialists at 1-800-MY-APPLE.
Be aware that if you purchase an iPhone in the US, that will be the only place you will get support from Apple should you need it. You will not get any support for a US-sold iPhone in China.
    Regards.

  • I brought my iphone in Thainland. Can I use it in Paris with a Paris sim card company?

I brought my iphone in Thainland. I"ll be going to Paris, France, next week and I would love have a phone with internet capablility.
Can I use my Iphone from Thialand in Paris with a Paris sim card company?

See above From what I can see the Thai carriers lock their iPhones and do not unlock
If it came from direct from Apple in Thailand  then it should be unlocked
Borrow a sim from a different carrier to yours and see if it gives service

  • Can I buy an iPhone in a chinese Apple Store and use it in Canada with a canadian SIM card ?

I want to know if I can buy an Iphone in another country like China and use it in different countries. If I buy it from an Apple Store without any contract and without a SIM card, what do I have to check to use it without having problems ? When I will be in Canada, can I simply put my canadian SIM card in my iPhone from China or I've to unlock something ? Thank you !

I don't believe Apple sells officially unlocked iPhones in China, thus no. Even if they did, why would you want to purchase in China to begin with when you can purchase an officially unlocked iPhone in Canada?

  • Buying a handset and use it in Europe with a different sim card

Hi, would it work if I buy a blackberry handset in the US and ship it to a friend in Belgium who will install a local sim card?

yes if you get an AT&T device that is unlocked it should work fine.
Tmobile ones will not get 3g as their bands are different.

  • HT5163 i have an iphone4 with no visible sim card slot. has anyone seen this?

    Ui

Yep. That would be a CDMA phone. It can only be used on the carrier it was originally sold for. CDMA iPhones don't use SIM cards.

  • Can I use a CDMA (VZ) iPhone 6 with a GSM SIM card outside the US?

I'm planning on purchasing my first iPhone--a 6. I'm debating between Verizon (VZ) and AT&T and understand that VZ uses CDMA and AT&T uses GSM. I'm hoping to have a phone which I could use a local wireless carrier's GSM SIM card outside the US if I'm traveling. I've done this with unlocked GSM phones in the past and would like that option in the future--but I'm wondering if I were to get a VZ (CDMA) phone if that'd be possible? Likewise, if one's outside the US do you have to use an unlocked phone for a local wireless carriers's GSM SIM to work?
Thanks in advance for your response!

    That is correct.
AT&T will unlock a device under the following circumstances:
The person requesting the unlock code must be one of the following:
    A current AT&T customer
A former AT&T customer who can provide the phone number or account number for the account
The AT&T Mobile Device was designed for use on the AT&T wireless network.
The AT&T Mobile Device has been paid for in full.
The AT&T Mobile Device has not been reported lost or stolen.
You're allowed the following number of device unlocks:
Current customers are allowed up to five device unlocks per account, per year.
Former customers are allowed a total of five device unlocks per former account.

  • Can I buy an iphone in the USA and use it in the UK with an o2 sim card?

I have just been re-issued an o2 pay monthly sim card as my phone was stolen. I'm going to NYC in September and was thinking of getting a iPhone in an apple store there. Will I be able to bring it home and use it in England with my o2 sim card? Or will I need to get it unlocked? Thank you

Thank you so much. This makes a lot of my sense. As my phone was stolen too, it probably makes sense to buy it in the UK and keep the reciept as i'm claiming on insurance ... I thought I might save money by getting it in the US, but actually you're right, after all the hassle and then the problems afterwards, probably best just to stick to the home country! Thank you.

  • Which iPad 4 versions can you use with Swedish mobile SIM cards?

Browsing around user forums and getting more and more confused :b If I want to use an iPad 4 with a Swedish SIM card as of today = being able to use an iPad 4 in Sweden without Wi-fi connection, which models do I have to choose from? Read a lot about 4G technology not being compatible with Swedish technology etc.... Help?

You can not "unlock it to T-Mobile". If the phone is locked to AT&T, ONLY AT&T can authorize unlocking it. Contact them and find out if it's eligible for unlocking. If it is, and you meet their requirements, they will process the request to unlock it. If it is not eligible, and/or you don't meet their requirements, then it can only be used on AT&T.

  • My old apple ID is being used for the iCloud account.  I need to change it to my current Apple ID, My old apple ID is being used for the iCloud account.  I need to change it to my current Apple ID

My old Apple ID is being used for the iCloud account on my phone.  I cannot change the account when I click on iCloud Settings.  Please help!!

You will have to sign out from the iCloud preference pane and sign in with the new ID. Of course when you sign out all your iCloud data - email, calendars, contacts - will disappear from your Mac, assuming you have indeed been syncing them to the iCloud account you want to stop using. You can transfer the calendars and contacts manually, but you can't move the email addresses from one iCloud account to another.
