I chose not to renew my .Mac account

I decided not to renew my .Mac account this year. There were two main reasons for this. Firstly I was very disappointed with the service; I was unable to receive my mail or to access my home computer during the time I was traveling last year in N and S America. [Instead I used Google for free.] Secondly I prefer to back up to an external hard drive, so was not using the Backup feature.
Since my subscription expired I have been unable to receive any email. I do not expect to receive any using the .mac address, but I do expect to receive on the address I have always used.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had this experience as I want to fix it asap.

yes, I can remember way back when, that I got email from Apple asking me if I wanted
“my name” dot “Mac” dot “com”
as my email address, and it was free for life or two years, which ever came first. It brings a to my face.

  • Can not send email from .mac account from the iPhone

I'm having problems sending email from my iPhone from my .Mac Account and says the outgoing server timed out. Any Suggestions?

This error message indicates you are not using the correct server port for .Mac's SMTP server.
Did you transfer the account settings from your Mac to the iPhone automatically via the iTunes sync process or did you manually create your .Mac account on the iPhone?
If the former, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP Server selection, select the Server Settings button below for .Mac's SMTP server.
If 25 is available in the Server Port field, enter 587 in place of 25 and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting and then re-sync your iPhone making sure your .Mac account is selected for account settings to be transferred to the iPhone.

  • Renewing my .mac account

My .mac account expires like tomorrow. I don't necessarily want to have the same name that I have now, for when I renew my membership for .mac. I would like to use the primary name that I have now as an alias. Is there a way to do this without deleting all my other aliases and emails that I've saved on my primary account now? Or would I have to painstakingly save all those emails on my computer somewhere, give up my other aliases, start from scratch and just create a new account? I couldn't find anything on this on the renew account page. Neeone know? I'd really appreciate it. Thanx!

  • IChat 3.0 not connecting with dummy .mac account.

    Hi guys,
Here is my problem. I have a dummy .mac account with iChat, have been using it for the past 3 years, today I can´t connect. iChat works fine with an AIM account but not with my dummy .mac.
Does iChat keep a list of contacts so I can transfer them to my new AIM account?
I am not sure if this account has been deleted but at the same time it is letting me sign up to post this message.
My .mac account is [email protected], it works for discussion groups but not for iChat anymore. I am sure it is password related.
    The error message says:
    Could not connect to AIM
Could not connect to AIM. Try again. The server message was Auth: DbSendError
What I need to know is if I can get this account working or try to get the list of contacts so I can add them to the AIM account.
    Thanks,
    AJ

  • Inactive email alias not visible on my mac account

I have tried everything and I cannot see two inactive email aliases anywhere on my icloud account (1) or on my mobileme account (2). I have signed in with my apple id to both accounts and access MAIL etc and the two aliases (one on each account) do not appear under ACCOUNT management when I sign in. They don't appear under MAIL either for the iCloud or the MobileMe account.
Where do I go and what do I do just to see my old email aliases and reactivate them?  One accont has been migrated to iCloud but the other one remains in MobileMe.
I have looked under every category under Sign In/ Account/ Manage... mail, security, password, etc.  but nowhere have I found the aliases.
    Thank you for your help.

Are you storing sent messages on the server, as that's the only way they'll appear on all of your devices?

  • Not renewing my .Mac, How to keep messages?

Hello Apple (and readers who might have suggestions),
As a first hour .Mac subscriber, I'm thinking of not renewing my .Mac account because it costs me 100 dollars a year for (only) the fancy @mac.com e-mail address i use...
Can i, and how can I keep or transfer the discussions of me to a new apple-id account?

Well, i tried several things and as it turns out on MyInfo you can't change your Apple-ID. It says: "Note: .Mac customers click here to change your Apple ID."... which leads to www.mac.com There you login, click on account, personal info is the only thing you can change... it looks like it's impossible to change an Apple-ID of a .Mac account.
Probably you could change it over the online-store (looks like you could there) but then they want credit-card information or you can't change your account name / AppleID !!! They really make you jump thru hoops.
I ended up making a new AppleID...
thanks for the help so far.

  • How do I publish after renewing .mac account?

IWeb was working fine until I had to renew my .mac account now when I hit the publish button a window pops up that tells me to either test drive a .mac account or if Im already a member to sign in. When I go to my system pref. it already has my info. Anyone have any ideas?

An interesting post, my .mac runs out in five days and I get a .mac splash screen each time after I have published telling me how long I have left. It alos includes a Renew button, even though I have enterd all the details for auto renew. Hmmmmm!

  • Trouble Viewing iWeb site on dot Mac account

I have a home office and I also have a studio. When I am at home working, I have no trouble viewing photo pages on my dot mac account from either Safari or Firefox.
When I am at my studio, however, I cannot browse my photo pages on Safari nor with Firefox.
Safari gives me the "server stopped responding" error and Firefox displays "the server timed out".
    So, what's up with this?
At the home office, I use wireless DSL access with a MacBook. At my studio, I'm using an iMac wirelessly on my network. The the service provided is through Comcast broadband cable modem.
On both machines, I have iLife & iWork 08. I do not sync my dot mac account with the 2 machines. The original files for the photo pages reside on my studio iMac.
So why can I browse my way through my photo pages when I'm surfing the web from my home office, but am unable to see them when I'm working at my studio?
Thanks for assisting me if you can.

I will when I go back to my studio. I'm just trying to understand where you are going with this. I have contractors who work in and out of my studio with their laptops. They use XP & Vista and they have absolutely NO problem what so ever accessing my photo pages. In fact, when I couldn't access from my iMac, I had one of them check to see if the site was down. They could see my pages just fine with no problem. So...if they can reach them using the same network while sitting at the desk next to mine...why can't my iMac reach the pages?
    Thanks.

  • HT1338 iWeb Google AdSense interfacing. Does it work without a .mac account?

I'm trying to put in the Google AdSense on my web page but the program is not recognizing my account. Is this and other widgets not available simply because I am not paying for the .mac account?

    1. Do I charge people extra and buy them a .mac
account so they have their own idisk even though they
won't need the e-mail and other .mac features?
I don't think this would be necessary...
    2. Can I create a website for them on iweb, buy a
domain name for them through godaddy or somewhere,
publish to a folder, and then upload to a separate
    hosting space...
Yes. The best thing for you to do would be to get familiar with a program called "iWebSites" ( http://mistergregg.com/cocoadrillosoftware/ ). I'm sure you don't want your personal .Mac website to be mixed in with your client websites. In addition, you will appreciate the ability to be able to publish your various websites INDEPENDENTLY of one another, so that you only publish your personal site to your .Mac account and your client sites individually as needed. iWebSites helps you to create separate Domain files for iWeb so that each website can "live" in its own space and be edited and published separate from every other site.
But yes, as far as your client websites go, prepare for a new site with iWebSites, design the site in iWeb, then "Publish to Folder" and then register and upload to the appropriate domain name server directory. I think this would be a slick way to run your business....full service, right?
Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Podcasts don't play m4a files on a non .mac account.

So here is the deal I created a podcast site using iweb. Saved to a folder and uploaded it to www.damntourist.com/testcast
I didn't change anything. Just created it and ftp'd to the web.
If you click on the sample podcast, it doesn't load. Seems that mp4 and m4a files do not work on non .mac accounts.
You can also check out www.damntourist.com/audio/rss.xml
This is for another test that I did. Here you will see that the m4a or mp4 files can not be downloaded but the mp3 files can. All of these files are in the same folder.
The files do play just fine from my hard drive in itunes, on my ipod and through quicktime.
Does anyone know why m4a and mp4 files can be played and downloaded from a .mac account but not another server.
I don't mind doing things a little differently. I also don't mind working with my hosting company to make changes to their server.
I have spoken with the Apple Genius Bar folks and they don't have answers.
    Is this enough information?
    thank you for your help,
    -bill

You bet it can't play what it can't find. Problem is, the file is right where the code says it is. Everything is in place. That is what I am talking about. The files are there. The code points to the right place and yet something doesn't work. I even had Apple Genius staff confirm file structure and naming.
It can't play what it can't find:

    BFE-4699-
    AA40-0F7D430515C1files/200166486-001300x300.mp4
I broke the link (added a space) to keep this from
    stretching this page.
The .mp4 file isn't on the server or is named
    different than the HTML code.

  • Mac accounting software like quickbooks

Is there Mac software that is like quick books? Something for small home business that could be passed on to my accountant when necessary?
I had Quicken on my old desk top, my Mom suggests Quickbooks but I love my Mac!  Want the best to  work with it.

The reviews at the link provided by jbg2u are for Windows accounting software.
We are a medical clinic that also sells medical equipment, and our main goal at the time was to have an inventory function for serialized items - our practice management software (eClinicalWorks) didn't do inventory.
Before we purchased QB Enterprise, we looked into Account Edge, since we are a mixed Windows / Mac office.   However, my controller at the time wasn't too impressed with the user interface.  That was more of a personal prefrence.  The deal breaker was that, as an existing QB user (we used QB Premier at the time), Account Edge could not import QB data files.  We could switch to AE, but only at the start of a new fiscal year, and only if we were willing to continue using QB to access all past accounting data.
I think that the paucity of Mac OS accounting software choices is a pretty good indicator that most Mac users are very small businesses.  By the way, this was Apple's own design to de-emphisize the business market in lieu of the the personal, small biz, cloud, and mobile markets. It's not surprising that most Mac accounting software I've found is designed for personal/small business.  Also, QB has probably impeded competition by creating proprietary database files that are nearly impossible for other vendors to import.  I'm no fan of Intuit.  I hate being tied to one vendor forever because, in this case, I'd rather not supply every employee that needs to access QB with a PC in addition to their iMac.  Unfortunately that's just how it is.  (sound of Intuit CEO cackling all the way to the bank...)

  • Not renewing .mac account. Suggestions for an alternative?

Any suggestions to free alternatives to a .mac account. I have let mine expire because I did not feel I got US$100 value from it. I only really used the email and parking images for public posts, such as here in the forums.
I now use SyncTogether to sync the Macs on my home network.

I haven't used .mac since it was iTools and from what I've read it's long over due a decent update but it may be worth $80 try Amazon or on a more adhoc basis no more than $75 eBay to you.
Although I'm not big into it yet I've started trying many of Google's online services (Email, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Calendar etc etc) which are looking better and better all the time.
If you're considering an iPhone then remember Yahoo will be providing free push email.
My ISP provides a small web hosting facilty in the price where I host my AD images; if yours doesn't try Flickr, Photobucket or Twango...

  • Email Alarms from .Mac account....not from home?

Is there any way to have the .mac account email a chosen address directly from .mac and not from my home computer. For example: I'm at work, my home computer is off, and I would like to have an alarm sent to my work address sometime during my work day. So far I can only see that it emails from the home "Mail" application.
Any ideas to get this to work?

The computer that sends the mail HAS to be turned on with an ACTIVE Internet connection. The .mac account has nothing to do with alerts. iCal is the one managing alerts using your user account address (the address specified in AddressBook under your name) and it tells Mail what to send and to whom.
Another way to achieve what you want without leaving your home computer on:
    1. AT HOME: Add your work address under your user name in AddressBook.
    2. AT HOME: Make sure iCal is using your work email address (when you have more than one address, arrows appear to allow you to chose).
    3. HOME & WORK: Sync your computers using iSync (before leaving home and when you get at work).
    4. AT WORK: you can verify in iCal if the alert has been added.
    Have fun!

  • How do i renew my mail account without subscribing to a full.mac account

Does anybody know if it is possible to renew .mac mail without having to subscribe to a full .mac account?

    It's not.
They don't sell the .Mac services separately. The only thing that may carry over after your trial expires is the user name for iChat.

I have seral email accounts on my Mac. One does not work on the Mac but works on my iPad and iPhone. The account information was added on the Mac. I keeps rejecting my password.

You don't input the information in manually for iCloud mail. It is automatically set up for you when you sign into iCloud via System Preferences and choose the Mail checkbox. Sign out of iCloud or deselect Mail in iCloud preferences. Open Mail's preferences and choose accounts tab. If iCloud account still exists in the list, delete it. Sign back into iCloud or check the box for mail. The account will be auto created for you.
