I click "install" in app store, "installing" briefly flashes then nothing

Just got a new ipad 3rd gen. Logged into App Store with Apple ID I've been using on all my devices, but with this particular iPad, whenever I click to install an app, the "installing" button appears briefly, but then no download happens.

Try this and see if it helps.
Go to Settings>iTunes & App Stores>Tap your Apple ID>Sign out.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Stores>Sign In with your Apple ID.
Try the App Store again.
Or ...Quit the app completely and reboot the iPad.. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

When I click on the App Store I can only see "games" at the top of the screen, I can't see any Apps?

Recently I have noticed that when I click on the App Store on my iPad it defaults to "games" at the top of the screen and I can't see any new apps? Previously it defaulted to Apps and you had to chose "games" but now it seems to default to games and I don't know how to view apps without searching for the specific one?

I am surely missing something very simple, and hopefully Ralph will see it, but no matter what I do, I cannot replicate what you are seeing, try something I recommend time and again. CLose the App Store app and reboot your iPad.
Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the App Store app and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.

You must update the apps with the Apple ID that they are purchased with.
The only way to get round this is to re-purchase the app with the new Apple ID.

Just connect the new iPod to your computer and setup the iPod via iTunes (instead of via wifi).

If none of your third-party apps are working, but the Apple built-in ones are ok, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted. Nope that's not it, I always use that particular ID, but the @me.com portion of the Apple ID is missing when trying to download from the App Store on the Phone.
It is grayed out inside the App Store app so I can't change it there and I already changed it in the settings.
The entire Apple ID is fine in the Settings so I don't get why the App Store ID is different and missing information.

Did you try reinstalling the app and contacting the developer (there should be a contact link on the app's description page in the store) ? If you don't get a reply from the developer then you could try
'report a problem' link from the purchase history on your computer's iTunes instead of on your iPad : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that song and use the 'Report a Problem' link (iTunes support should reply within, I think, 24 to 48 hours).
