When I click on a tune i want to hear, a diffren't song will play?

Correct me if I'm wrong but what I understand is the following:
The media exists solely on the external drive.
iTunes was pointed to the external drive where the media exists.
The external drive was then disconnected.
If that is the case, do you see where the problem is?
If that is not the case, please ellaborate on whatever steps I have missed.

Short answer:
Click Hide Song(s), it is what you wanted to do...
Long answer:
iTunes in the Cloud is a feature of your iTunes store account that allows you to redownload or stream your past purchases. When you delete a purchased track that is downloaded to your computer (like the first one shown here) you are asked if you also want to hide the song from iCloud. This would remove it from the computer and also stop it showing up with the iCloud symbol as the other tracks from that album (which are not downloaded) do.
If a track shows with the cloud symbol you can play (stream) it by double-clicking the title, or click the cloud symbol to download a local copy to your library. If you try to delete one of these tracks you get a slightly different message confirming that you want to hide the track. Clicking hide will remove the listing from the library and any other device that shows your past purchases.
Should you want to retrieve any item hidden in this way at a later date use Store > View My Account > iTunes in the Cloud > Hidden Purchases > Manage.
To hide all your previous purchases that are not downloaded to your computer use Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.

You can remove "this" (display of the Up Next list) by going to View > Hide Up Next in iTunes' menu.

HT2688 How can I "click and drag" songs from one shared library to another?

I have home sharing activated on my mom's computer and mine and before the newest version of itunes, we were able to click and drag songs from one users' library into the other. We are not able to do that now and I wanted to know if there was a way to do this in the newest version of itunes.

Delete the song from your Itunes music list, then redownload it, Itunes will ask you if you if you want to download it for free. This seems to be the fix for my problems.

HT1711 I have recently upgraded to IOS 7 and now cannot rate my songs in itunes. I single click on the song and hit the applicable dot under ratings which usually then converted to a star. Now it does nothing when I click on the dot. What's wrong?

Since I upgraded to the latest IOS, I cannot get Itunes to rate my songs. My ratings determine which playlist my songs are entered into. For two days, I've tried to rate the last 4 songs I downloaded but when I click on the songs to bring up the 5 little dots, nothing happens when I click on the applicable dot. Before to attach your ipod.... try to find the file where you put your music.... click on that song.... itunes will ask you if you want to locate it.... from there you have to find the song(s) that is one of the folders in your PC.

In firefox, click on tools, then options, then click on tabs and tick the last option in tabs that say "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately".

ITunes shuts down when I click on a song

When I click my iTunes library after my iPod backs up it freezes and shuts down. I manually sync my songs by dragging them across to my iPod but tonight it keeps wanting to verify my iPod, then backs it up. You should certainly be able to add content by reference to itunes from such a disk (even before the update) - so long as itunes knows the location of the file (set Preferences not to copy to local library when adding the media) it will stream it to AppleTV if the disk is available.
I hope you're right, but I'd be surprised if current Extremes can be upgarded to provide a full Home Sharing service - marvellous if they can but I'd be surprised as i've long said we need an Apple media server either based on TC or AE to do this kind of thing.

I am having the same problem. I have just tried this. Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.

Authorize the coumputer. Go to store in the top of the screen and authorize it.

Every time I click on a song it pops up and says "itunes has stopped working"

This issue just started randomly in the past few days, I didn't upload any new music. So it can't be a corrupt file. Itunes launches fine, it's when i click on a song (any song) that it immediately pops up with the error message and promptly shuts down.

I uninstalled, and re-installed quick time. and it fixed all my problems. (:
