I clicked on an HTML link in email, could this cause my mac to be infected by a virus?

I received an email from a friend which had a HTML link in it. I sometimes get these to display on a screen so it was not unusal so I clicked on the link.
When the site loaded I realised that this had not been sent by my friend so I closed it.
I've since found out that the friend had her email hacked allowing bogus emails to be sent.
I'm new to Mac's but I've been told that they don't get virus.
What is the risk of me opening the link?
How do I check if I have a problem?
Thanks.

There is Mac malware out there, but just visiting a web page isn't enough to infect you.  See:

  • Question: Sending a HTML-Link (via email) for updating data

    Hello,
I have an simple application which is club member request form.
Anyone who will get a member in our club can type in some personal data and after pressing the create button he will get a confirmation e-mail.
    Till here everything works fine.
Now I will put an confirmation link (HTML) in the confirmation e-mail.
The new member should click on this link and the link should update (and commit) a the column "confirm" in my new_member table depending on an ID.
    Now my problem:
I have no idea how this link should look like.
    Thanks for help

Generally, this kind of implementation goes deeper than just what the link looks like. In fact, what the link looks like depends entirely on how you've implemented the confirmation process in your database.
Although I've never done this specifically, I have given considerable thought to how it would be implemented. I thought that I would have a specific table that would hold pending confirmations. This table would hold some kind identifying data as well as a unique ID that would identify the row, probably something that looked like a GUID.
Given this table structure there would probably be a trigger or PL/SQL process that took the pending member information and moved it into the members table when the member clicked on a confirmation button on the confirmation page. Therefore, the link that is sent to the user would need to look something like this:
http://[yourhost.domain:port]/pls/[your DAD]/f?p=&app_id.:[your confirmation page #]&session.::::[your page item name]:[the unique ID for the member]
The page item name is the item you define on the confirmation page that will hold the confirmation ID and the unique Id comes out of the table for the specific membership you're confirming.
Again, this is conceptual since I've not done this specifically, but it should give you a place to start.

  • How to remove 'Please click here to Respond' link in email notification?

    Hi All,
The links in the workflow email notification that goes to timecard approvers when a timecard has been submitted.
It is causing a lot of confusion to the customer, so we would like the "Please click here to Respond" and "Click here to view attachment" be removed.
The "Please click here to Respond" is causing more problems but it would be great if both could be removed?
Can any one please tell me how to remove the above links in wokflow email notification?
    it's urgent. Thanks in advance.

  • Renaming HTML links in email apps

I use Yahoo mail on my iPad as my mail client.  Although I can receive renamed links, I can't seem to create them using the
standard HTML format for doing so.  If I copy and paste them, they default to the HTML text.
There also doesn't appear to be any active edit link to select for renaming the link once highlighted.
    What am I doing wrong?

This is how I've found a way of doing:
Go to home/library/mail/signatures select all the files in there
Go to preferences in Mail and create a new signature
In the home/library/mail/signatures you will see a new file *.webarchive
Open your html signature with Safari
Go to File/Save as ... Save as over the new *.webarchive choosing webarchive for the format
Restart Apple mail if you need to
(for the images you will need to have them posted on a server)

  • HTML Link in Email template

We are trying to pull the service ID into an existing link in an email template.
We want to include the service ID in an email to an existing link that takes the customer to another place.  We want to pull the service.serviceid and place it at the end of the existing link.  Has anyone worked with this at all?
    Thanks - Wendy

Thanks Craig.  I can pull the service id into the email template using #Service.ServiceID#, but I can't get it to be at the end of the link to the site I want to send the user to.  Example:  I want to send someone to http://test.com/test/default.asp?Service = "this is where I need to pull in the service ID, so that it will be part of the link the customer will select.

  • I'm using Firefox 3.6.11 and it has stoped opening a new tab when I ctrl-click. I've recently updated AVG - could this have affected it?

The AVG installation included a "safe search" and "security toolbar". Otherwise no changes to previous config that I know of (!)
If I hold down Ctrl when clicking on a link no new tab opens ad i just link to the new site on the currently open tab.
How can I get Ctrl-click to work again?
    Thanks

  • Could This Be New Mac Malware? (Video In Link)

Hi. First the screen became garbled but it was hanging or freezing (iStat Menu, says the GPU Die's highest temperature in Celsiuis by far  is 74. I think 74 is not that hot for a GPU but I could be wrong). The screen looked like this:
    http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g230/alvin777/iMacGarbledScreenNo1_zpsf0539810 .jpg
Even with things garbled managed to shut the late-2009 iMac down then restarted it right away. I then got to 10.9.2 Recovery then chose the OS X installed in the iMac's (the one built-in it, not external drives). It then booted but this showed up instead of the gray Apple logo (I captured a video):
    http://s57.photobucket.com/user/alvin777/media/GarbledScreenorMalwareiphone_zps6 61a2a66.mp4.html
It shutted down when I pressed the power button and then pressed it again to reboot it. It booted normally. I switched off LCD smoothing in the System Preferences coz' it lasts longer (it becomes garbled in less than 2 hours if it's turned ON but it if it's OFF, it's days before it comes back at around 10:25 to 10:30pm, I noticed).
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless. Rev. 21:4

Hi Thanks for the reply. I guess I accidentally restarted it using the Target Disk Mode but it seems it's a bug in Mavericks because there are others who have the garbled screen or sometimes artificats (the GPU's not overheating at 74 Celsius, I read it can take up to 90+ Celsius without issues). Usually it starts when you launch an app that's related to graphics like Preview.

  • Can you do Update Record from an HTML link?

Can you implement the Update Record server behavior by
    clicking on an HTML link?
As far as the documentation I've read indicates, the Update
Record server behavior is only capable of updating a record when a
    Form is submitted.
I would rather have the action of clicking on an HTML link
update the record, rather than having a Submit button to update the
    record.
Is this possible? How do I go about doing this?
    Is

If you coded the HTML on the page to submit your variables,
    you should be
able to pull them in to the update page, though you might
    have to manually
    edit some code.
However, this also means you will always have a link present
    that bots will
hit (and thus will update your database). Is this what you're
    looking for?
It certainly doesn't sound like the best method.

Yes. In the add PL/SQL code screen, add htp.anchor('link', 'displayname', null, null), the quote is single quote.

  • How to stop firefox from opening new ad tabs when clicking on a legit link or even a blank space?

This has been going on for months now in every computer in my house. If I go to any legitimate website and click on a legitimate link (not and ad) a new tab opens up to either a bogus virus warning, an ad page, or a survey. I have reset Firefox to default conditions several times without any results. I have Kaspersky Internet Security 14 and ran a scan (no virus found). I have Hitman Pro and ran a scan again without results. I have also ran Malaware Bytes, and Norton Power Eraser to no avail.
Mozilla has to do something about this as it is happening to may users.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.
