I Close Firefox. When I go back to reopen firefox. I am told it is already running, although there is nothing on my screen??

I Close Firefox. When I go back to reopen firefox. I am told it is already running, although there is nothing on my screen. I have to goto the task manager, to find firefox and shut down the process, in order to open the browser. ? a bit of a pain in the grapes, any suggestions?

Does it also happen if you wait a bit longer (1 or 2 minutes) before reopening Firefox?
Do you see hanging Firefox processes in the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) ?

  • When I try to launch Firefox I am told it is already running

I get this error message: Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system. When I go to task manager/applications tab, nothing shows up, but when I go to task manager/processes tab, sure enough, it does look like it is running already. I went to msconfig and it does not appear that firefox is one of my startup jobs.
During shutdown, laptop has to do a forced shutdown sometimes because it says a job is still running (though I can not see one doing so). Again I go to task manager processes and there is Firefox, running invisibly again. What is up with this and how to I correct it?

He either does not have an Apple device or has not signed up for the service.
iMessage only works with other apple devices.
If he does not have one, you will need to download an app such as text+ to send regular text.

  • When I log off of Firefox, do something else, and then want to get back on Firefox it says that it is already running and have to close the old Firefox out. How do I do it? Now, I'm restarting the computer. Is there an easier way? Thanks Steve

I x off Firefox and work on MS Pub or Word, perhaps my email. If, for some reason I want to go back on Firefox, a box comes up and says it's already running - to close it and restart Firefox. I can't find where to close it? If I could re-open it, that would be fine, but to close it - there are no tabs, icons etc. So, I simply restart the whole computer and begin again. That's a long way round the barn!
    Steve

Check the task manager (ctrl + shift + esc) and look for firefox.exe in the processes tab. If it's running, close it.

  • My homepage will load about 30% and then i'm dead in the water. when i close firefox it appears to close but when i try to reopen it tells me that it's already running. started with beta 6 i deleated and loaded ver 5 no change

when i start firefox, everything starts normal then my homepage (igoogle) starts to load, gets to about 30% and stops. from there i can click on links or bookmark and a new tab will open but no page will load. i can't get anywhere. then when i close firefox it appears to close normally but when i try to reopen firefox i get a message that firefox is still running but not responding and the only way to shut it down is to reboot. when it first occured i was running beta 6 (since it became available, i also used beta 4 & beta 5) i then uninstalled beta 6 and downloaded and installed ver 5 same problem. i then did a system restore to a time before the problem.. no luck. i'm not sure what to try next. IE & chrome both work fine

I'm in exactly the same boat - dead at blue screen, only option is to salvage using target mode.
I don't currently have access to another Mac to do target mode. I was planning to buy a new Mac this fall anyway, though. 2 questions in preparation for that purchase:
    1) Is there anything I can do before buying a new Mac to make the salvage process more successful? ie, should I spend the time and money going to the genius bar to have them help me get from totally crippled to partially crippled? (As for expertise, I'm a proficient consumer-grade user, but Apple Support walked me through the safe-boot process, etc.)
    2) Is Apple going to provide 10.5 once it is released to people who buy a new Mac in these 6 weeks pre-release?
    Thanks for your help,
    Bailey

  • When I close Firefox my computer says it is still running and I have to restart my computer to get Firefox to run...this is a first for me.

Every time I close Firefox and try to restart it my computer leaves a message that I still have Firefox running and that it is unresponsive and needs to be closed. The problem is that there isn't a still-running Firefox to be found, consequently it is impossible to close and therefore impossible to open. I have used every form of Firefox and this is the first time this has happened. Please, please don't force me to use Chrome or iExplorer!!

Start Firefox in Safe Mode (above). Wait a few minutes, then close Firefox.
    Is there still a problem?
    If you are still having issues;
Type '''about:support''' in the address bar and press '''Enter.'''
Under the main banner, press the button; '''Copy Text To Clipboard.'''.
Then in the reply box at the bottom of this page,
do a right click in the box and select '''Paste.'''
This will show us your system details.
    '''No Personal Information Is Collected.'''
Start your '''Computer''' in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox.

  • Firefox will not open, getting message "Already running, but not responding", also can't use TaskManager to close it.

Have FF4, downgraded to FF3.6.17. Still not working.
When I close out of FF, it still is in the processes tab of my Task Manager. And it won't let me do the "End Process" technique.
End up having to restart computer... Pain in butt.
Also even though I uninstalled Firefox 3.6.17, I still have these files which I can't delete.

  • When I click on a mailto: link, Thunderbird says it's already running but there is no Thunderbird process running.

I opened Firefox on a freshly rebooted PC, went to click on a mailto: link in a webpage and get the error message that Thunderbird is already running. Thunderbird is not running, but will not open for sending email.
The cause could have something to do with Firefox not opening Thunderbird correctly, or that Thunderbird is not getting the correct permissions to run properly when called by Firefox.
When I start Thunderbird from it's icon, I get a Windows 7 prompt asking me if I want to allow this program to make changes on my computer. If Thunderbird is started by Firefox asking it to create a mail message, as is the case with a mailto: link, It never gets this permission requester.
I have tried troubleshooting information regarding Thunderbird already running error messages, however, there are no .lock files associated with Thunderbird nor is it's ability to send/receive mail when run from it's own icon affected by this problem. I therefore think it's a problem with the way in which Firefox calls Thunderbird to create an email message.
There is the additional problem that Thunderbird has to have administrative privileges to run, but doesn't automatically get them. This might require a separate bug report submission be generated to the Thunderbird developers to fix this problem, but is dependent on what they can do about that.

The reason firefox is not able to launch thunderbirds is because it cannot start thunderbird as administrator unless firefox is running as administrator, try to start firefox as administrator user then click the link.
    It should work.
To start a program as '''administrator on windows''', '''RIght Click''' on the iFF con and choose '''Run as Administrator''', then press yes when the user access control box pops.
