You have encountered the new security feature called Activation Lock. It prevents stolen or lost phones from being activated by someone other than the original owner. There is no way to circumvent the Activation Lock. Contact the original owner for assistance or return the phone to where you purchased it an demand a refund.

Obviously, you did not purchase an unlocked iPhone. Apple is the only source of unlocked iPhones in the US.

is there any way to restore factory settings on an Iphone 5s that will not connect to Itunes because the phone is locked with a pass code. Problem is that the screen is completely shattered.

i also had my phone stolen ... the first thing they did was turn off the phone so i couldnt track them.. you should need to enter your passcode in order to turn off the phone. i dont care if you cant do a hard reset.. i would rather loose the ability to do a hard reset for the added security .. besides without hard reset if it jammed badly i would just wait ontill the battery died.

Tried restarting the phone. Didn't help.
Every time I connect the phone with the cable, the question to trust the MacBookPro comes up, which I answer 'Trust'. Doesn't help.

If you're using iOS 8 or later: To untrust all computers, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy. This will also reset your location and privacy settings. You can also untrust all computers by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will also reset your network settings.

There is an option in settings to erase the phone after 10 failed login attempts. If you had enabled this option then, yes, after 10 tries all of your content (including pictures) would be erased. You can recover them from the most recent backup you made of the phone, either in iCloud or on your computer. -
Trying to back up iPhone because phone has a shattered screen. But it is requiring a passcode before I can back it up and the passcode has to be entered on the phone itself, which is impossible due to shattered screen. Any suggestions on a way to get around this?
If you never synced with iTunes since setting the passcode on it, you won't be able to back up to your computer without entering the passcode first. You can't get around this. This requirement is for your own safety, as it keeps someone who steals you phone from being able to back up your data to their computer without knowing your passcode.

My question is can i bring this iphone 4 to the official of ATT, and can they locked into my number instead of the one that is locked with?
the issue is that the phone it is brand new, my friend he decided to sell the iphone so if i bought it i have to do the activation myself at home with itune. Since the phone i locked with his number there no way i can do the activation. My concerned is that can i bring to ATT and let them locked into my number, of course i have to sign 2 year commitment with them. Can i bring the phone to them?

I am having difficulty charging my iphone with the cable. Its been 1 yr since I bought the phone. Does the cable becomes useleless after a year. Whats the life span for the cable? It automatically gets disconnected and then get connected again.

Plug your phone into the wall charger for at least 30 minutes...make sure you have a sim card in the phone...then:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Make sure you have no anti-virus software running or any firewalls...turn all of that stuff off.
