I cloud isue with contacts with 1 apple id but multiple phones?

I have a few questions, grateful for help.
I have four iphones of various flavours. I have ios 5 on all. I have however only 1 apple id which is set to my itunes account as I want to control purchases with my store ID, but that id has been used on each phone.
I have set icloud to sync on all four - but that causes issues with too much information being downloaded to all devices, specifcally on contacts.
So here's my issues:
The set up for contacts with icloud means that unless you allow sync you can't edit them. BUT because they all have the same id everyone gets everyone elses' contacts too - which I don't want.
So - should I set up four separate apple id's one for each user?
Is this different from a store id? Because two of them are used by my kids and I don't want them to have my password for itunes purchases!
Confused - help gratefully received.

Welcome to the Apple Community lizzie.
If you don't want photo stream to sync your photos between devices go settings > iCloud and uncheck photos, do this on each device.

If you are using the same Apple ID on both devices, the Game Center profile should be the same.
Check out this information from the iPad User Guide. Try signing out of the Game Center on both devices and then sign back in with the correct Apple ID:

And they were definitely purchased from the iTunes store, they show on the account's purchase history (Store > View Account on a computer's iTunes, or you can view the last 90 days purchases via http://reportaproblem.apple.com) ?
You could potentially log into the account on that computer's iTunes (Store > Sign Out to log out of your account, that will then change to a Store > Sign In option) and redownload them by clicking on the id towards the top right of the iTunes screen and Purchased on the popup :
But that will potentially tie that computer to that account for 90 days : Manage your associated devices in iTunes - Apple Support
Or do you have a different computer that you could redownload them on and then copy them over to that computer via a flash drive or memory card, and then add them to its iTunes via File > Add To Library ?

Remember - if you bought any apps with another ID you cannot update them with a different ID.
Try changing the ID in the App Store. Tap on Featured - swipe to the bottom of the screen - tap on the ID in the bottom left corner - and see if you can change it that way.
If that doesn't work, sign out of your account altogether, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
I guess I should ask - what ID is it coming up with and why is it coming up with that ID?

Content and Apple IDs -
Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with one Apple ID with a new Apple ID. Your only option is to delete the content and buy it again with the new Apple ID.

Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign in to your Apple ID on your device.

Via iCloud on Wi-Fi about ten minutes at the most. Via iTunes, about the same.
Reset your iPhone.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Then tap Settings > General > About then scroll to Version. If it says: 7.1.2 then the update was complete.
If not, follow the instructions for recovery mode >> iOS: Unable to update or restore

The only way to open an iCloud account using your Apple ID is on a Mac or an IOS device, there are no alternatives.

You can log out of your account on the iPhone by tapping on your id in Settings > Store and you can then log back in with the updated version - if you created a new account as opposed to updating the existing account then your current content will remain tied to the old account and it can't be copied or transferred to the new one.

I can't get my ICloud started. Each time i try to sign in..it indicates that theres a problem with my email apple address but never indicates what. I added a second email but the same result. Have changed my password numerous times...no result?????

I have followed the instruction relating to Icloud connection.When i went to system preferences, my Apple address is continually rejected. I have added a second email as suggusted by an Apple site but i still get the same message. Im not told why the Apple ID/email is not accepted when it is accepted in all other Apple sites. I changed my password numerous times to ensure it wasnt the password but to no result. It continued to state that my Apple ID was the problem. I live in Malta,Europe. Have new Apple Mac Pro and Ipod. The annoying thing is that ICloud continually send me the problem notice but do nothing to tell me how to fix it? Can i switch this notice off? Help???????

If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.
