Okay, then what you will need to do is plug your ipad back into your friends computer; you may have to sync it with his computer, but thats okay. When it is plugged in, click the update button. This will take about an hour, maybe more if your friend has slow internet. Once it is updated, reset your ipad. When your ipad is reset, sign into your apple id. You can now use a feature called icloud (brand new in ios 5) to download all of your apps and music you purchased back to your ipad. You may lose some things if they were not purchased from apple, but is is better than not being able to use it at all (I think).
If you already have ios5, then this is unnecessary (it says you are using an ipad running ios4)

Please advise and thank you.There is no need for you to use your computer to set up an iPad for your mother. You can do it over the air with WiFi and then you do not have to worry about syncing your content to her device - which I would not recommend anyway.
Why don't you just talk mom through it over the phone. It is a very simple process. Take a look at this. Or if she insists on you setting it up, do it this way.

The gentleman from Philadelphia knows of whence he speaks when it comes to using more than one ID on the iPad but I also recommend that you NOT use your ID on the iPad and this is why.

I have just received a new iPhone 4s and have restored it from the last back up I did before I got the new phone, however, after I do the restore the only option I get is to click on "Done" at the top of the page but then no data or information from my phone shows up and when I click on the "iPhone" button on the top right hand side of the page it takes me back to the previous page and gives me the option to set up a new phone or restore again. I have just restored my husbands iPhone 5 and had no issues at all. They were both backed up on the same day last week.
That does happen. It depends on how hard the server is being hit, as well as the connection speed of your system. If you are on a windows system, you will want to disable any antivirus or firewall software during the download.

My iphone doesnt show up in my itunes. It shows up when i plug it into another laptop. Similarly, when i use someone else's iphone, that shows up in my itunes. Obviously my itunes wont recognise my iphone. Please help

1. Why don't you purchase it from Apple? I'd be wary with eBay sellers - and, after all, Apple posts their stuff everywhere, even if you live in a country without a localized Apple store webpage or local (physical) Apple stores.
2. when it comes to adapters / cables like these, NEVER purchase ANYTHING non-Apple-manufactured! Most of the cheap(er) knock-offs don't work! That is, don't try to save on going for a cheaper alternative - it most likely won't work.

iOS 7 will give errors on non Apple certified peripherals. So make sure you only use Apple certified products. Did you backup the phone and then RESTORE AS NEW (not reset)? Try doing that by plugging the phone to iTunes on a computer. See if that helps. If it solves the problem, there could have been corrupted software on you phone. If not, it could be a hardware issue (including the battery), in which case you would need to go to a Apple Store or authorized service provider.

Try and force your iPad into Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device. -

I am trying to create an apple ID, but it states one already exists using that email address; although when I try to reset the password, I don't receive the emails and if I try to answer the security questions, it wont accept my DoB? Thank you for your reply, I did go to my general settings, but for some odd reason I don't have a restrictions setting, or a reset setting. I thought I could reset all the setting to see if it could be that, but as I said there aren't any.
My husband also has the iPad 2, and also did the software update and hasn't had any problems at all. I took both iPad's and compared the settings thinking maybe there could be a setting that could have been changed when the update was done. -

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. I agree with JimHdk but I will guess at this one. If you have an internet connection (you can get email) but Safari is not responding...
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear history, cookies and cache. Restart the iPad. Hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and slide to shut off. Hold down on the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and then let go of the button to power up again.
Then try safari again.
