I cannot find the video that I added to the iPad. I looked in iPhoto and the camera roll. Any ideas? (BTW, this is a video which I previously had on the iPad but deleted and now I want to add it back.)

Thanks for your reply. I looked in the Video app but it is empty. When I connect the iPad to iTunes on the iMac and look in  Apps > File Sharing > iPhoto, the video that I added is in iPhoto on the iPad but I cannot actually find the video in iPhoto on the iPad.

You created the video DVD, the IMG file, with iDVD and just burned it with Disk Utility. As Klaus1 pointed out Disk Utility can't create video DVDs.

  • No luck importing from SonyHandycam DCR-DVD650?  I am using USB import to my MacBook that is running OSX 10.6.8. The MacBook is not recognizing the camera.  Any ideas what the issue could be?

I am not having any success in importing my videos from Sony Handycam DCR-DVD 650 to my mac book.  I am using the USB connection.  The macbook is not recognizing the camera.  The macbook is running OSX 10.6.8.  Any ideas on what the problem could be?

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2361 There's a recommendation that when using this camera to record in the 'Standard' format instead of VR format. So if you know what the setting was you used to record the disk that's a starting point.
According to this website the camera should be compatible with iMovie '11
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html?lang=en_US
So here's some steps to take to get the Mac to recognize your camera.
    1. Try it more than a few times, sometimes it can take 2-4 attempts to get iMovie to recognize a camera for the first time.
    2. Always get the power adapter for your camera out of the bag. Hook it to the wall outlet, then plug your camera into that. Don't run it off the battery.
    3. With the camera plugged into the wall, in DV playback mode. Hit play and just let it play video out continuously, then reboot the Mac. As soon as you see the desktop, launch iMovie. Go to File Menu > Import from Camera and see if the Capture window opens with your video playing through.
    4. Make sure iPhoto doesn't try to launch itself automatically when it detects your camera has been connected to the Mac. Sometimes it tries to steal the videos off of a camera and 'blocks' iMovie from seeing the camera when it's attached. So make sure iPhoto hasn't interecepted your camera and is not running at all when you launch iMovie
No guarantees, but some things to try

  • Missing from the "Missing Manual"; any ideas on this one?

Greetings Wizards, Gurus, Freakazoids, and anyone else willing to share their wisdom,
I recently upgraded to iMovieHD (5.0.2) and have come across a few anomolies; some harmless and some downright debilitating (and stupid, I might add), for instance:
What is this @%#$ "Updating Files - This could take awhile" message?! It interrupts every process. Sometimes it's just during an edit, but earlier today it interrupted a capture and blew the whole clip (it was a 10 minute clip for time lapse). I had to go back and start over.
Fortunately, it didn't take "awhile", but in previous sessions it really did. Sometimes 5 minutes or more. What is this process and how can one avoid/work around it?
Perhaps related, perhaps not, but I was working with large clips today (for a time-lapse project; many 5 - 10 minutes long) and found that it was nearly impossible to scrub through these clips without invoking the Spinning Beachball Of Death. Now I'm guessing that it may have something to do with a really long clip being scrubbed too fast, but here's the issue: I have a 2.5GHz DP G5 and it can't seem to handle the same thing I was able to do with my trusty old 450MHz G4 running iMovie 3.03. I've never had problems like this. In addition, it doesn't seem to depend on length; I can scrub 10 minute clips fine and then it'll hang up on a 6 minute clip. Next I'll try a 12 minute clip - no luck. However, it always has problems with the same clips.
And they call this an upgrade?!......don't even get me started on the whole "non-destructive editing" thing....
    Any ideas?
In the immortal words of James Brown,
Please, Please, Please, Please,..........help a brother out.

Wow. That's brutal. I think I would have scratched my eyes out by then.....
We do our own letterboxing, so we shoot 4:3 with tape over the monitor (or the camera's LCD - really) and frame for that. (we call it "ghettoboxing" - I suppose we'll have to stop calling it that at some point.)
Anyway, it's easier to deal with in post because we never have to worry about squeezing or unsqueezing, etc. It always looks right, and well, there's a certain amount of caché when one walks around with a $4000 camera with tape stuck all over the monitor....
Even classier, I have a china marker in the edit suite so I can draw the lines on the monitor and line up the letterboxing. Nothing but the best for our clients....."Wait, we have clients?! Where?!"
If you've got a lot of clips it can be a drag, but I usually select a screen-length's worth in the timeline and render the letterbox on all at the same time, scrub forward and do it again to the next batch. The settings usually stay the same from the last time you used the effect, so it works out.
The more I think about it, the more I think it has something to do with the drop-frame time code. I don't think the Quicktime engine is able to deal with it effectively, especially if there are dropouts on the tape. Which in this case, ther seemed to be on a couple of clips.
Not sure why 16x9 would cause an issue, unless it's somesort of rendering or conversion issue. When you view your clips back onscreen, are they squeezed, or does IM accomodate the format and stretch the preview monitor?

  • I imported events from iphoto into aperture and aperture is showing 2 photos for each picture, one original and one edited although none of the photos from iphoto had been edited. Any idea why this has happened and what I need to do to prevent this.

I imported several events for iPhoto into Aperture3 and in Aperture it shows two photos for each photo imported, one original and one edited although none of the photos imported were edited. Why has this happened and what do I need to do to prevent this in future. I have only recently got Aperture and am trying to learn as I go along using the Focal Press guide. Thanks for any help.

A photo that was rotated in iPhoto will also show up as iPhoto edited.
This is not what I found to be the case in a recent experiment using iPhoto11- I did repeat it to be sure.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15586837#15586837
Quickly, what I found is that only the ones I did actual adjustments on brought over two images.  Images that were simply rotated, had "quick fixes" or "Effects" did not bring in two images.  More importantly, among the ones with adjustments that did bring in two images, the ones with the keyword  "iPhoto Edited" appear to be nothing more than iPhoto's 6MB JPEG Previews.  The master was a 25MB RAW image.
I don't know why some users are experiencing doubles on everything, but I recommend caution in deciding which ones to remove or you may find yourself deleting masters and keeping previews.

  • Printing in InDesign 5.5 doesnt print the image, just the border. Any idea why this is?

It will print a blank page other than the border around the image.

Do you mean that the text frame has a stroke? And what do you mean by "...other than the border"?
    Have you checked these things?
Is the image on a non-printing layer?
Is the link missing or is the status out of date?
    Are other images printing fine?
Does it appear if you print to another printer or print to PDF?

  • Some photos from one day are showing up on my photo stream, and others from that same day are not. Any idea why this might be?

Took a bunch of photos on vacation one day, and it seems like the first batch from one day are not showing up, but then all of a sudden, the ones from the second half of the day are there. They are not showing up on the photostream on my iPhone on which I took the photos, or on my iPad or in iPhoto on my computer. Any idea why this could be happening? All the other photos I took all week showed up on my Photostream.
Is there anyway to force these photos into the photostream?
Thanks! Any help would be appreciated!

photo stream uploads photos from your photo app when it is connected to wifi and the photo app has been closed correctly.  That may be why your seeing photos pop up on different dates

  • How do I get home video clips from iMovie Mac to iMovie iPad?  Surely there is some degree of cross-compatibility?  I have a load of clips in iMovie on my MBP that I wanna download to my iPad2 so that I can edit movies on the move.  Any ideas?

How do I get home video clips from iMovie Mac to iMovie iPad?  Surely there is some degree of cross-compatibility?  I have a load of clips in iMovie on my MBP that I wanna download to my iPad2 so that I can edit movies on the move.  Any ideas?  (The clips are in a .mov format, they have been imported / converted into this format in iMovie, original files were from a JVC camcorder in some other strange format.)

I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places.  I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file.  There must be something else that's missing.  My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive.  If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess.  I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={  Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period.  I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive.  Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me).  As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"

I can't get out of there unless I shut my ipad down and restart it. I can use other parts of my ipad ,but my camera roll remains frozen....help!

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).

Is there a way to import photos to the iPad and put in an album without having the photo also in the Camera Roll?  I have a photo transfer app but when I import the album and photos they are also shown in the CR.  When you delete them from CR they are deleted from the album too.

You can sync photos from your computer via iTunes, and each folder that you sync will get its own album : syncing photos. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next sync.
In terms of albums that you create directly on the iPad no, effectively you are just creating pointers to the photos in those new albums, so if you delete the original photo you will therefore also be deleting all pointers to it.
You could consider a third-party photo management app instead e.g. Photo Manager Pro
