    - Reboot the computer
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try another cable. !
    - Try another USB port
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • My external HD will not show up on my desktop anymore. I'm on macbook pro 13", OS 10.7. It doesn't show up in disc utilities, nor on another mac, nor on that mac's disc utility. I happened to restart the comp while the HD was connected.

My external HD won't show up anymore on my desktop nor does it get listed in disc utilities. I tried to cennect it to another mac but it doesn't show there either nor in that mac's disc utility. I happened to re-start the computer while the hd was connected and now it doesn't show up anymore. I use it for back-up via Time machine. I could re-format and do the back up all over again but then I need to find it first. Please, does anyone have any solution to this problem?

It sounds as though the external drive may have failed. There's nothing at all wrong with restarting your computer with the external drive connected -- that's a perfectly reasonable and normal thing to do, done by countless users every day without any ill effects.

  • When I connect my ipod to my computer, it shuts off

    Hi,
I've been having trouble with my iPod, hope someone here can help.
When I turned my computer on this morning my ipod was still connected from last night. Today, however, the iPod icon didn't show up on my computer, and when I tried to disconnect/reconnect the iPod it started to turn on, clicked a few times, then gave the no battery sign and turned back off. I've reset it and it still says no batteries and turns back off. I've reset it both connected and disconnected. I'm running out of ideas!
    any help would be appreciated

well i managed to get my hands on a regular ipod charger, not the computer, and the ipod turned on fine. it will even connect to a computer & do its hard drive thing. but once i disconnect it from a power supply it says it's out of battery and won't play music, nothing. I'm used to a 24 hour battery life. this is very disappointing. I've upgraded the software. any other suggestions very welcome.

  • My iPod was dead but now it's alive and kicking -- I'm confused

Friday morning, I was at the gym listening to my 4th generation iPod (which I have owned for about 14 months -- after warranty) when I heard a click and then my iPod froze. I got to my office and and saw the "unhappy ipod" on the screen. I went to the apple iPod support site and followed the "5 Rs". Nothing happened.
So I took the iPod to the Apple Store Saturday morning and one of the "geniuses" took a look at it. He tried resetting and putting it into disk mode. He told me the battery needed to be replaced and gave me a list of dealers although he recommended iPodResq.
I went to their website yesterday morning (my iPod was still dead to the world) and ordered the battery replacement service ($89.00). Today I received the overnight shipping box in which to send my iPod for repair.
So, I reach for my iPod (which has been in my bag for over 24 hours since I was unable to use it). Well, I pull it out of the bag and the thing IS ALIVE AND KICKING. Works fine, like there was nothing ever wrong with it. All my music was still there along with some audio books. What the???
Now I've got the shipping box (along with $89.00 that I've already paid). I can get a refund from the company but parrt of me is thinking "What if this is a fluke and the things goes dead again tomorrow?"
Has this ever happened to anyone before?

Yes, it did happen to me too. Very likely that the head of the HD of your iPod got stuck that night, which caused the Sad iPod icon.
My suggestion is to do the following now (which will erase all your data on your iPod)
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
Let it run for over weekend, if it appears the Sad iPod icon again, then send it for repairing.

  • Error message after connecting my iPod to my comp

I got this error message when I 1st connected my iPod Shuffle to my new computer.
    "Exception Processing Message 0xc0000013 Parameters 0x75CF023C 0x997B3364 0x75CF023C 0x75CF023C"
Previously my iPod was link with another iTunes Library (my old comp, running on XP). This message appeared when I try to connect with my new computer, running on Windows Vista.
I'm using the latest version of iTunes and my iPod has the latest version as well.
Eventhough I managed to sync after I restore the iPod, the same message kept appearing.
And now, my Nortion 360 doesn't seemed to work also. It kept saying "Your PC is not protected from virus, spyware and other risks". No matter how many times I click 'Fix' nothing happens.
    Please help!

I have an identical problem. Same message/situation, new setup on Vista ported from old xp system. Itunes 7.5.0.20. Ipod is 80Gb Classic.

  • Am having major issues! this does not work i dont understand..does the ipod have to be off while pressing the buttons if so how is it possible if it is connected to the computer either way it turns on..and when i tried these steps while the ipod was on it

i am having major issues! this does not work i dont understand..does the ipod have to be off while pressing the buttons if so how is it possible if it is connected to the computer either way it turns on..and when i tried these steps while the ipod was on it still doesnt  work it just asks me “slide to power off” please someone help me i just cant seem to put my ipod in DFU mode

To get the iPod in recovery mode and DFU mode you first have to turn the iPod off.
Just what is the problem you are tying to resolve?
Sometimes you have to let the battery fully drain if you can't turn the iPod off. After charging for at least hour try again.

  • HT1853 My laptop lost connection with itunes while my ipod was in do not disconnect mode.  My ipod will not respond now and still shows do not disconnect?

My ipod was connected to my laptop and in the 'Do not Disconnect' mode.  My computer rebooted after security scan and now my iPod is stuck in the 'Do not Disconnect' mode.  The iPod will not turn off, nor will my itunes recognize it is connect.

Try a hard reset of the iPod.  To do this, press and hold both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • A playlist that I update on my ipod won't update when I connect my ipod to itunes

I have been using my Ipod Touch 3rd generation to create playlists. The playlists show up fine and play on the ipod, but when I connect the ipod to itunes, and click on the playlist, it does not reflect the changes made on the ipod. I have the ipod set to manually manage, so when I disconnect the ipod the songs are still on the ipod, but why won't they show up on itunes?
I also deleted some tv shows off of the ipod by way of itunes, but when i disconnected the ipod, they were still listed on the ipod, although they would not play. So somehow, my itunes and ipod are not communicating with eachother. Any ideas/fixes?

    Hey BingHuo,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPod will sync but not charge while connected. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • MacBook loses wireless connection when iPod touch connects to network

    hi
ever since upgrading to 10.5.5. on my MacBook i've had the "intermittent network connection" problems that have been described and discussed (without any real solution from what i can see) in another thread.
PROBLEM: every couple of minutes my MacBook loses connectivity to the network - the AirPort icon still says that i'm connected, albeit with one less bar than before, but i can't connect to anywhere, not even to the wireless router - and to re-establish a connection i need to switch off AirPort, switch it back on, it will then reconnect, and after two minutes or so i have to do it all over again because the network connection drops again.
NOVEL OBSERVATION 1: reinstalling the 10.5.5. combo system updater helped somewhat. i used to get an error in system.log about there being too many state transitions on the wireless network and about network traffic reduction measures being taken to overcome this problem, but after reinstalling the 10.5.5. combo system updater this message never appears in the logs and I get kicked off only sometimes (see what i say in point 2 below)
NOVEL OBSERVATION 2: now my MacBook will only lose its connection to the net if i switch on my iPod Touch and switch its wireless interface on. in fact, the only way to avoid the MacBook getting constantly disconnected is to make sure that the wireless interface on the Touch is switched off in the Touch's system preferences; if I just sleep the Touch (top button) without switching off its wireless network interface first in its System Preferences, then the MacBook will keep disconnecting even while the Touch is in sleep mode (presumably the Touch keeps polling the network or something, even while it's in sleep mode).
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 1: I have another wireless device (my Nokia E51, which has wifi capabilities) and if I connect it to the wireless interface then the MacBook's connection isn't dropped - i.e. the MacBook only loses its wireless connection when my iPod Touch connects to the wireless network.
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 2: I have upgraded my wireless router (before I had a Linksys WRT-54GC, now I have a Netgear WGR614v9) but that has made no difference.
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 3: I have also tried altering the router's settings (i have played around a_lot with this, trying every combination I could think of - e.g. staple down particular devices to particular ip addresses, use only 802.11g versus automatic b/g, etc) but that has made no difference either.
    RANT:
The only thing that prevents these disconnections from occurring is to keep the iPod Touch's wireless switched off, which ***** because if I'm in the kitchen I can't have it switched on to monitor my email (yes, I've no life, i hang around waiting for emails), or if I go have a lie down and want to check out stuff on the net, or to browse the iTunes music store or whatever, then I know that my connecting my iPod Touch the computer will be disconnected.
This obviously *****, right? And a lot of people are having wireless problems with their MacBooks, right? And these problems seem to have been around for over a year, right?
So why hasn't Apple solved this problem yet? Or am I just being melodramatic?
Your thoughts on any or all of the above, or flames if that's your preferred method of communicating, are invited. =)
    Cheers
    dr.colekat

Having the same problem here. As a first time mac user, Apple has certainly made a bad first impression.
For me, the issue seems to occur when transferring files between computers that are connected to the same access point (when transferring files from wired computers on the network there is no issue). My vista laptop and every laptop I have tried has worked perfectly fine with this access point so I am 100% convinced it is the mac. Basically when I copy the files, after about 100mb, I am unable to access anything on the local network or internet until I restart Airport. The weird thing is that even though I am unable to access anything, the airport utility says it is connected. I might also note that the wireless signal strength is full.
If I can't get this figured out in a few days, this computer is going back to the store where it came from and I will officially label myself anti-mac. This type of issue is just unacceptable for something so main stream.

  • ITunes Store won't open and iTunes goes incredibly slow when i connect my iPod

Hadn't used iTunes for a while until a few weeks ago. Updated it but now when i try to open the iTunes Store the loading bar gets less than halfway before it gives up and just goes to a blank screen with "iTunes Store" written on it. Also when i connect my iPod it shows up under devices but if i try to click on it everything just goes really slow, no matter how long i leave it it won't bring up the page showing the details of my iPod. I emailed the support people about it but they've been no help at all so far, just wondering if anyone had any advice.

I also have the same problem except when you sync your iPod part. I also just see a blank screen on iTunes Store, even on the home page even if my connection is good. I just had this problem after I updated my Java program on my laptop (because they just released an updated version) so went updated mine. Since then, I only see a blank screen on iTunes, but when you search for a certain app for a game, it will show as normal, but when you go to the Apps tab and scroll down and click Games, it will load up but will only give you a blank screen. What's going on? Please have this fixed ASAP.

  • ITunes crashes when I connect my iPod to the PC when iTunes is running....

I have written about this problem before, but there have not been any successful solutions as of this date. I will explain my situation a little further and maybe someone can help.
Most of the time, when I connect my iPod to my pc while iTunes is running, the instance the iPod shows up on the library site, and whenever I move the cursor, iTunes crashes, so I have to close iTunes right away and try to disconnect my iPod. Most of the time, a message comes up that says info is being transferred to the ipod and that I shouldn't disconnet it at that time, but I usually go ahead because I know it isn't transferring at that time, since itunes has crashed.
Sometimes, after I have clicked on the first message to go ahead and disconnect my ipod, another messages comes up that says something to the effect of, "You can't disconnect because it is being used by another server at this time." So I click "OK" and then iTunes stays on for a few moments which gives me time to transfer a song or two, but then itunes crashes as soon as it finished transferring or before it finishes.
As anyone can imagine, this has really become a hugh problem. Having an iPod and not being able to use iTunes makes it very unhandy. I'm not able to add any new music or any of the playlists which i have been working on. Does anyone have a solution, or any suggestions as to what may be going on? It would be deeply appreciated.
I plan to restore my iPod in a day or two if I don't get a solution to this, but I don't have all of the music, videos, etc. that I have on the iPod since I removed much of it from iTunes to help the computer run faster. I had over 2000 items in the library, so it was pulling the pc down and it was taking forever to use the computer.
I am unable to use any of the software to transfer everything from my iPod to the iTunes library because of the problem with iTunes crashing when I connect the iPod, so this isn't a solution at this time.
    Someone, please help!
HP   Windows XP   Using DSL for internet access

I suspect a hardware problem.  But do the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset.  Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
    - Resore the iPid to factoery defaults/new iPod.
In the latter part of you post, I thin you ar sayng that you do not have a syning computer and the music is not on the computer. If so, do the following so you will not lose anthing (or very little) when you restore.
    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Best iPod to PC
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and right click on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Backup. This will make a backup so you can restore to the backup

  • TS1398 I can no longer connect to my home wireless on my ipad2, have done all the suggested fixes, still cannot connect.  Daughter cannot connect her iPod, but husbands laptop is connected to wireless.

All of a sudden my ipad will not connect to our home wireless.  I have reset the wireless settings, turned my ipad off and back on, turned off wireless and back on, basically have done all of the fixes suggested and still I cannot connect.  My daughter cannot connect her iPod either, but my husbands laptop can and is connected to our wireless.  The wireless is working and until two days ago I had no problems connecting.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button
