Could the disk have failed?
Can you hear it?

The Best Mini Display Port HDMI Adapter?
I am looking for recommendations on a good Mini Display Port HDMI Adapter for my Macbook Pro 2011 Sandy Bridge. I have gone through about 4 adapters in the past year due to the adapters become unresponsive after 2 or 3 months. I use my Macbook heavily on external monitors for my work (averaging 7 hours or more a day between various monitors).
I can rule out the HDMI wire itself not being the cause of the problem but the adapters have been a huge miss and drain on cash this year. If anyone who is also a heavy user can point me in the direction of a durable adapter I would be very grateful.I always recommend monopriice.com for cables and adapters.

But all these adapters are in the form of "pigtails" and no matter where you get them the strain relief and the cables can fatigue and break from constant bending or pulling (doesn't help your macbook socket any either).
Maybe you should order a bunch. They are cheaper that way at monoprice.
Another possibility might be you trying a mini displayport to HDMI cable. No adapter.

But of course you could get about 6 adapters for the price of that one cable! -

iMac Purchased Early 2013.Seems to work when I swapped dapaters from theb 3.0 adapter to the mini display port adapter. THis is the same thing that got it worling the first time byt in reverse.
Had already tried clearing the PRAM. If it occurs again, I will have to try redetecting displays next time. Judging by what I saw reading through these forums it will happen again, -
I bought a belkin mini display unit cable( new) and connected the thunderbolt port in the MBA ( 11" , mid 2012) to the Imac mini display unit port using this cable. Pressed the CMD & F2 keys on the Imac keyboard as required but this did not work. Should I try with another cable ? Should i try with a thunderbolt cable ( recommended by appple support ) -- but they too were not sure about this. Is the Mid 2010 21.5" Imac not able to function as an display unit? Any guidance would help and will be much appreciated.

Only the 27-inch iMac and Mid 2011 and newer iMacs can be used as an external screen, so you can't use your Mac as an external screen. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302

Mini Display Port behaving badly. Anyone else have this problem?
I have had an ongoing issue with a mini display to VGA adapter, every time I plug it in it becomes erratic over the course of use. It will lose signal and send the monitor blank if I go to remove any of the usb peripherals in the back of the unit. I have returned the unit to Apple 2x now and they have replaced the logic board 2x and the mini display to VGA adapter, yet this is still happening.
I have tried it with different monitors and cables etc, but this is still going on.
Is a mini DVI to VGA any more reliable?
Has anyone else had this issueThanks for the suggestion , but after an extensive talk with tech support and running through the usual troubleshooting regime we came to the conclusion that the best thing for all concerned is that Apple send me a mini DVI-VGA adapter. I am cool with that. No matter what combination of adapters and cables and monitors I plugged the mini into I kept coming up with the same results and my local guys had the same thing happen.

Is there anything I should do to the TV or any settings i should do from my actual Macbook? It only shows the space background but not any of my icons or what i am seeing on my laptop screen. It is a new adaptor which was purchased last week.
It seems as though though it may be a connection issue, possibly hardware or adapter. Make certain the connections are TIGHT.
For software you may try a smc reset:
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
Try a pram reset:
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
If no joy you can take it in to an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation make an appointment first.

Please help! I've tried everything to get this dang thing to display a downloaded movie from itunes on my epson EX5210 lcd projector via a HDMI cable plugged into a minidisplay port adapter. I am no expert and have no idea what to do!

By the way, this dang thing has "only" 768 physical pixels vertically, so "1080p" won't be visible anyway, and scaling will take place. Hope you won't be diappointed. All specs including resolutions here. -

donI get this too if I used the mute switch. I will not hear my alarm or text & calls despite it being on max volume. I've found that I have to go to music or radio and see that it's turned way down. If I turn that up in music player, then my phone rings loud again. I missed a number or alarms due to this.

What do I needto do to connect a tv as an external display for my mbp using a mini display port to hdmi cable. I have tried display without success. tv is receiving a signal as displays apples default wallpaper when connected but nothing from screen of mbp.
Soundls like it is working. Try dragging a window on the MBP to the edge of the screen and see if it appears on the TV.
There are two ways to set up the TV one is to mirror the MBP display and the other is to be an extension of the MBP's screen.
You change the settings in System Preference->Display -
I have an IMAC 27 with a mini display port ( only this). I also have all the adapters ( mini display port to VGA, HDMI...).
Since I moved to UAE I like to transmit the signal frm my IMAC ( where I also look German TV on) to my TV. I will do so by using a wireless Transmit receive system with theree cinch inputs ( transmit system ( video, 2x voice).
The distance to the TV IS ABOUT 10m and one wall. I don`t want to use a cable.
Is there any solution for example mini display to VGA + VGA adapter to cinch so I can use the transmit system?
HDMI would also be an optiekn, bat then I have to by another Transmit receive system.
If somebody made already the experience I would appreciate to share the information

<Email Edited by Host>I don't know what AppleTV can handle as far as bit rate is concerned, but increase the bit rate as high as it will let you. You are taking DV which is 25Mb/s and compressing it. If you're making an H.264, you should get great results needing no more than 6Mb/s. Bear in mind, the higher the bit rate, the larger the file size.
