I constantly get redirected to other websites!!  how the **** do I stop this?

the title explains it all.

No, it really doesn't explain much.
Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide and AdwareMedic.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.)
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
The facts are:
1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
2. There is no anti-malware that can detect everything targeting the Mac.
3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
    protection against malware.
5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

  • I keep getting redirected to other websites

I keep getting redirected to other (related) websites while using safari on my MacBook Air.  Any suggestions?  I'm guessing I have inadvertently downloaded something that I need to uninstall or delete.

Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • I am trying to download itunes but keep getting redirected to other websites like descargar.es

I am having trouble downloading ITunes without getting a virus or other problem. I went to Apple clicked on ITunes and then hit get redirected to itunes.descargar.es. I don't trust this because I have heard that it is not safe.

Let's try a malware scan to see if we can knock out any redirecters you might have picked up.
Download and install the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware:
    http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
Update your MBAM definitions and then run a full scan of the PC. (Takes about 2 hours on my Lenovo.)
Does the scan find any infections? If so, please paste the contents of the log file for the scan in a reply here so we can have a look.

  • How the heck to stop Illustrator from logging each session?

Each time I open Illustrator CC a log builds up into the c:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Logs\AIPerformance.log file.
Now it's over 600MB in size. This is not good for my SSD!!!
So please tell me how the hell to stop this stupid debugging process or whatever the hell is it!

...or whatever the hell is it...
My guess is that it's part and parcel of Adobe's propensity to exploit your computing and connection resources for its marketing "research" purposes every time it "phones home" as you use the software. Even before the Captive Cloud there was a stink regarding Adobe's programs "phoning home" each time the stupid "quick start" screens launched.
I sympathize, but beyond the guess as to what it's for, can't offer any suggestion for disabling it; I don't (and won't) rent software, so CS6 is where it stops for me. Directly because of the rent-only scheme, I've not even installed Illustrator on my Surface Pro; and I've just installed a SSD as the C:// drive on my primary desktop, so I'm in full agreement with you regarding keeping unnecessary (to ME) clutter to a jealously-guarded minimum.

Try a Safe Mode boot ...
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.

What do you mean by that?
Do you have backups from Snow Leopard (I assume you mean that, not Leopard)?
If so, where are they (external HD, Time Capsule, or what)?

I hope you are correct.  When I click on the Macintosh HD icon on my desk top the sidebar  section that says shared shows the server I mentioned.
    Just as I said.
If i click on that shared device it logs in as a guest unless I cancel that action.
No, it logs your computer into that server as a guest.
I never knowingly  ok'ed sharing with another network or computer.
Perhaps not, but the printer is set up (possibly at manufacture) to offer services to computers on its network.
IF I click on the shared device to delete it a message says I cannot do that.  Any thoughts?
It the device is still on your network and still offering services, it will be listed as available. If it leaves the network or stops offering services, it should leave the list of available servers.
I suppose it might be handy to have a "hide this server" or "pretend this server doesn't exist" button, but we don't have one.

I recently updated from my iPhone 3G to iPhone5. Now, every time I check my contacts, they are all duplicated. How do I resolve (stop) this?

Are you syncing contacts over the air with an iCloud account or with an email account that supports syncing contacts over the air in addition to syncing contacts direct with a supported address book app on your computer via the iTunes sync process?

  • How can I change the fact that every time I open firefox, I get redirected to a website promising a free ibook?

OK. So in October I made the mistake of opening a website offering a free iBook (I'm really not gullible; I thought I could figure out who was sending it too me). Ever since then, I cannot open a new Firefox session without being redirected to the site (If I open up more than one webpage and save them before closing, I don't get redirected to the ibook site).
I actually keep my web-surfing software on thumb drives, and I tried two different thumb drives doesn't matter. I purchased and ran an anti-virus program. No dice. Can you help me?

    Hi revbennyd,
So it sounds like your home page has been hijacked? You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]].
There are steps in that article to reset your homepage preferences to default. I would try that first to clear out any strangeness. If that works, you can try setting your homepage again to your personal preference.
If that doesn't work you should look at the article [[Preferences are not saved]].
Finally, your issue may be because you've been hit with some [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Is%20my%20Firefox%20problem%20a%20result%20of%20malware?s=malware&r=0&e=sph&as=s#w_how-do-i-get-rid-of-malware Malware].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Only 'web-cache' gets redirected - no other service groups...

I have a Netcache configured for transparent caching for port 80 and 443. The Netcahce IP is 164.72.49.253. We have a 6509, sup720 IOS. 12.2(17a)SX3, configured to redirect web-cache and 1 to the Netcache. Here is the config:
    ip wccp web-cache
    ip wccp 1
The 6509 interface that controls the subnet the netcache is on is configured thus:
    interface Vlan1
    ip address 164.72.49.131 255.255.255.128
    ip wccp web-cache redirect out
    ip wccp 1 redirect out
We have a PC on another subnet connected to the 6509 that we are using to test the config, and we can only get port 80 to be redirected to the Netchace. HTTPS port 443 never gets redirected. Service group 1 is configed on the Netcache as tcp port 443.

  • Central is pausing my "other instances" of Central - can I stop this??

We have 9 instances of Central Output Server 5.6 installed on a server running Windows 2003.  We are currently using one instance, call it instance 1.  When the server is rebooted for whatever reason, all the Central Output Server restarts all the instances, which is fine, but it then automatically pauses all the other instances other than instance 1.  Is there a setting somewhere or an INI file I can modify to stop this from happening?  I've poured over all the INI files I can find looking for an setting that might be doing this but I've had no luck.

Chris, thank you for your response. It is appreciated. What you mentioned was my original problem with the SIM (the fact that it did not mesh well with Apple). After plenty of frustration and money wasted, a technician advised me to de-activate iMessage and FaceTime because I was getting charged 0.30 euro for every call and every text. I followed this suggestion and after testing it out, then the phone seemed to be working fine without the extra charge problems.
This morning when I woke up, I checked my credits on the phone and I had lost another 1.20 euro during the night. When I called PosteMobile, they told me that I had sent another 4 messages to that same UK number. I'm not sure how this is possible, and when I try to explain my situation to them, they are not the friendliest people. I've used WIND before in Italy as a provider without any problems, and they are not listed on the link that you sent me for Italy, so I don't understand why PosteMobile is giving me so many problems.
I was also wondering if there is a way to block my phone from sending messages to this number? (Although, I don't even know the last 3 digits of the number). Sorry if I'm rambling, but I don't know how to resolve this problem without starting a new contract with another service provider.

  • My pages in Firefox are timing out after 10 minutes, and a grey overlay appears on the entire page. Why is this happening and how I can I stop this?

Ever since upgrading to Firefox 25.0.1 yesterday, my open pages are timing out after exactly 10 minutes and being covered by a grey overlay. I cannot use the page until I refresh it. This is extremely annoying and doesn't seem to be caused by an extension or add-on. Please tell me how to stop this inconvenient and obnoxious problem!

After trial and error - the culprit turned out to be the Firefox Ginger (spell check and grammar checker) add-on. Disabling that stopped the problem. Thanks for your help! :)
