Could not open a document in pages. What's going on??
Got msg stating document could not be opened. Happened on MacBook Pro, iPad and iphone. Has opened without problem in past. Could not revert to previous copy, could not recover and version on any platform. Never encountered this before, is there any way to back out of this, any method to recover data when I can't open the document?? Running Pages 09 version 4.3; Have Macbook Pro 2.5 Intel processor, 4 gb memory; OS X 10.8.4
OK, I am using icloud beta.
When I try to open file, get msg “books-DVDs” couldn’t be opened" When I try to drag it onto desktop get msg “books-DVDs” cannot be converted. Please install a newer version of iWork" books-DVDs is the name of document. When I try to open using Safari msg is "you need a newer version of Pages for icloud to open this document.
I cannot get any info including file size because can't open document. All the other Pages documents seem to open ok, could this one file be corrupted?
Also what does iwork have to do with this. Received msg some time ago from Apple inviting me to try out iwork, I noticed no difference at all until i tried to open file today.
Is there any other place where I can get characteristics of file, such as size, or any way I can find if file is corrupted?
Icloud was supposed to be the solution for all this, now I'm wondering if I should use different means to back up files ? -

I deleted and re downloaded Firefox 5 using my VPN "Astrill" linked "from Australia" but it still happens. Can you assist, as a lot of the downloads I create have Mandarin instructions in them. I can't get adobe Flash 10 to work here in China either, but FF and A10 were both working prior to leaving Australia when I used xp. I had a computer crash and reloaded everything new, including FF and Adobe 10 Flash when I arrived in China. Can you shed any light? Thanks jscher2000. That did the trick! I looked everywhere too. The last download I also deleted all previous records of the previous instal. Thanks again!

When I tried to update to the latest version of itunes, I kept getting a message saying installation failed and if the problem persisted I should try to install manually. When that failed I uninstalled and tried to reinstalled, then I got messages saying MSVCR.dll is missing and could not open itunes. Any solutions out there?
Try the following user tip:
Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates -
I attempted to update itunes to the newest upgrade, and the upgrade was unsucceful, and now this error comes up everytime i try to open itunes (it wont open at all). the error says
Could not open key:
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\.wav\OpenWithList\iTunes.exe.
Verify that you have sufficent access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
This makes no sense since this is on my home PChmmm. okay, if you're currently just getting the "itunes has encountered an error ..." let's try the following technique.
preliminaries
download and save a fresh copy of the itunes 6.0.1.3 installer to your hard drive. (eventually we're going to run the install from there rather than online.)
iTunes 6.0.1.3 Installer
switch off any antivirus and antispyware applications prior to any uninstalls, installs or repair installs.
uninstall
use the complete uninstall instructions given in the following document to remove your existing itunes and quicktime:
Troubleshooting iTunes, iPod Software, and QuickTime installation on Windows
... and if you run into problems on the uninstall, try using the Installer Cleanup utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
reboot after uninstalling.
reinstall
remember to switch off your antivirus and antispyware.
reinstall itunes using the 6.0.1.3 installer you downloaded previously.
if you get the "itunes has encountered a problem ..." error message again after that install, first check to see if your Quicktime will launch. if you get an error message when you try to launch quicktime, try using the following technique:
iTunes 6 for Windows unexpectedly quits when opened

Hello,
When I try to install LabView (v7.1 or v8.0) I get the following error:
"Error 1402: Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\LVDB.Application\CLSID. Verify that
you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support
personnel."
I have full administrator privileges on my computer and I am able to
modify that key manually using the registry editor. When I click the
"Yes" button to continue the installation it will complete but then
when I launch LabView I get the following error:
"The requested feature is unavailable on "localhost"".
Can you help me get LabView up and running?
Thanks,The Adobe knowledgebase article actually pointed me in the right
direction and I was able to solve the issue. Thanks to all who gave
advise, you guys are the reason these forums work!
The error message was actually coming from the Microsoft Installer, not
from anything related to National Instruments. Also, ironically, what
the message said was spot on with one exception, while I personally had
access to the registry key, the installer didn’t. What I ended up doing
was going into the registry using regedit and setting the permissions
on the key in questions such that “Everyone” had full access. After
that I uninstalled LabView then reinstalled and it worked fine this
time. The step by step follows:
1) Open the registry editor by selecting "Run" from the start menu and then typing in "regedit".
2) Browse through the registry and select the entry mentioned in the error message.
3) Choose "Permissions..." from either the edit menu or by right-clicking on the registry key's parent directory.
4) Click the "Advanced" button to add a new user.
5) Type in "Everyone" as the new user and click OK (it may not be
necessary to give everyone full control but this is what I did and it
worked).
6) Configure the permissions for user "Everyone" to "Full Control"
7) Uninstall LabView (if necessary) and re-install.
Best regards,

Could not open key HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classic\Quicktime.Quicktime\CLSID
is the error message I recieve when attempting to install the latest version of quicktime. I attempted to delete the key and other quicktime keys from the registry but I recieve this error message:
'Cannot delete Quicktime.Quicktime: Error Deleting Key'. I then tried to export the key and recieved this: 'selected branch does not exist. Make sure correct path is given.'
Any help with a solution would be greatly appreciated
HP Pavilion 751n Windows XPWhat I would do is go to registry key and try deleting it. If it does not delete, right click on it and choose permissions. Permissions need to be allowed for at least Administrator and System. If the key does not delete, move on to the next one that is asscociated with QuickTime and delete it, and go on deleting all the keys that are QuickTime related. The one that would not delete may delete after deleting the others.
Let me try to explain this the best I can. I am not a expert in the registry, but know enough to get in and out deleting a programs keys without having the computer become completely unfunctional. There are also books on it.
For example when I delete a program I also go into the registry and remove it, just something I do. Because after removing a program thru the add\remove program control panel and start>search>for all files and folders, there are still registry entrees.
When I start deleting keys in the registry from a program I'll normally run into one that won't delete, even after giving it permissions. So I'll by pass it and go on to the next key, related to the program. The one that wouldn't delete will come up again and end up deleting. So I seem to think that some of the keys inter-react with one another. Because the one that initially wouldn't delete now does after deleting the others, and sometimes giving permissions again.
If you want to delete all keys asscociated with a program. You can go to the Edit menu in the registry, choose Find, type in the name of the program and hit the Enter key on the keyboard. When the key shows up hit Delete on the keyboard. To get to the next key associated with the program, hit the F3 key on the keyboard and the next one will appear. This can get confusing because a registry entree can show up as a series of numbers, so your counting on the registry editor that, that key is asscociated with the program. As long as you are deleting keys that are associated with a program you are OK, if you delete something in the registry that you are not sure of, that is where you'll get in trouble.
You should try going to the path giving here to the registry. HKEYLOCALMACHINESoftwareClasses and try deleting those keys that are QuickTime and see if it resolves the problem. -
Tried to install the newest version and lost all itunes on this computer. Followed instructions about removing and reinstalling iTunes, Quicktime, etc. Now I get message "Could not open key: UNKNOWN\Components|" and several letters/numbers afterward.
The first thing would be to get the proper version of Safari for your version of OS X (Tiger).
Go here to get Safari: http://www.apple.com/safari/download/
Be sure to choose the bottom choice:
You will also need the latest security update for Tiger. -
Error: Could Not Open Key ....
When I am installing iTunes 8 I get the following error message towards the end of installation.
Could not open key:
HKEYCURRENTUSER\SOFTWARE\Apple Computer, Inc.\iTunes. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
Thoughts? I haven't seen this error mentioned on the forums...
ThanksThis article from Apple explains the administrative permissions cause
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1462
You'll likely find more info at Microsoft's knowledgebase on navigating thru permissions in the registry if it has to go that far. The path your showing in the registry is not showing a clear key to take ownership of, so you will likely do fine with Apple's explaination of user accounts -

Xnewt dies: could not open default font 'fixed'
Hi,
trying to get srss4.2 on SXCE b129 running. However, Xnewt has a problem:

(on b125 with SRSS 4.2 EA2 everything is running fine)Maybe some of the [information from Chris Gerhard|http://chrisgerhard.wordpress.com/2010/01/11/more-sun-ray-on-opensolaris-build-130/] about getting Sun Ray Software to work on OpenSolaris build 130 can help you.
Note that Chris's blog is about OpenSolaris, not SXCE. SXCE 129 may have additional problems. I found the following information from someone working on X in Solaris:
Though I should probably also warn that if you installed snv_129 from SVR4
packages, many of the links in /etc/X11/fontpath.d will be broken - these
are okay in the IPS packages, and are fixed in the snv_130 X packages.
HOWEVER you probably only want to replace SUNWfont-xxx and SUNWttf-xxx
packages with the versions from snv_130, as I wouldn't be surprised if
Xnewt gets further broken by the snv_130 integrations of Xorg 1.7/X11R7.5
and the move from /usr/X11 to /usr of the programs & libraries. As the SXCE program has ended, you should consider moving to OpenSolaris. The Chris Gerhard blog also has information about getting SRSS to work on recent OpenSolaris builds (b132+).
Of course you'll always have to expect such breakages with new builds, as OpenSolaris is a rapidly evolving platform.
