I cracked my ipad screen

Does anyone know the cost to replace the cracked screen of an iPad?  Is this even possible to do without having to purchase an entirely new iPad?

Spirit70-
If you show it to an Apple Store Genius, you will probably be quoted a price for an exchange iPad.  On rare occasion, they have been replaced under Warranty, but it may be up to the store manager's discretion.
I do not recall the price, but understand an Apple Authorized Repair Center will repair yours for less than the exchange price.  <Apple Authorized Repair Centers>
It may void your warranty if you go to an independent repair center, but the repair price may be lower.

No. Damage caused by the user is not covered by warranty. A replacement iPad mini is $219 for the 1st generation, or $249 for the iPad mini with Retina display.

  • IPad screen cracked twice in 3 weeks - best option?

My 13 year-old son is usually very responsible with his electronics, but he has managed to crack his iPad 2 screen twice in three weeks (one accidental drop, one friend sitting on it).  The first time he paid a third party vendor $150 to repair it.  They did a very good job and it looked good as new. Now I'm debating what to do this time (short of confiscating it forever).  In your opinion, should we:
    1) Have him pay the same third party vendor to repair it again? He's trying to save for a laptop and this is making quite a dent in his savings.
    2) Just buy a really good screen protector and hope for the best?  Will that prevent it from getting worse?  What brand do you recommend?
    3) Throw ourselves on the mercy of the nearest Apple genius?  I understand third party repair work will void the warranty (It will be a year old in December).  Would that also prevent them from taking pity on us and offering a replacement?  I understand there's no guarantee of a replacement, and that it all depends on the person and/or the store, the situation, etc.  Is it even worth a shot?
The poor kid is so angry with himself, I hardly have the heart to throw a fit about this.  He's already punished himself enough.
    Appreciate any thoughts!

    See if this helps.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Protecting cracked ipad screen from further damage with protector

Howdy.... I have an ipad 2. The screen recently developed a spider web-type crack. I honestly have no idea how it happened. I did not drop it. I've been on a number of plane trips recently and noticed it after checking into a hotel. It was in my cabin luggage. Possibly someone dumped something on it in the overhead bin, or it got tossed around??
Anyway, it does still seem to function completely fine. Towards the edge of the screen on one side there is about 1 mm of depression/displacement of the sides of the fracture. Otherwise the cracks are non-displaced. I have no problem using it.
I am in a country with no apple stores. I could submit to an authorized repair place and wait for it to be repaired. However, I am anticipating ipad 3 coming out soon and I am wondering about the option of simply not fixing the screen at all.
I bought an ipad screen protector and put it on the screen under the theory that this might inhibit cracks from propagating further. Anyone have any insight or ideas about this? What happens when you use a cracked ipad screen over time? Does it inevitably get worse?
I am wondering if I can just use it as-is with the screen protector until ipad 3 comes out. The cracks are actually hard to notice during actual use, with the screen on.

The glass is laminated structure, the top layer is oleophobic plastic very thin, then there is the sensor and finally the glass. Same for ipad and iphone. See below.
If it works, keep going. Since you plan to buy a new one anyway. A case of 'its broken, but no need to fix it' !

  • Can the iPad screen be repaired. I dropped mine and the corner area is cracked

Can the IPad 2 screen be repaired, if so, how?  I dropped mine and the corner area is cracked. Viewing screen still ok.

Accidental damage isn't covered by the warranty, unless you are in the US and bought AppleCare+ (which covers 2 cases for an excess). In the US the price for repair (i.e. replacement as it's a sealed unit) is $249 for the iPad 2 (plus $6.95 if shipping is required), and here in the UK it's £199 (plus £6.95 if shipping). Third-party companies might be able to repair it for less, but using an unauthorised repairer would void any warranty that you have left (you'd also get 90 days warranty from Apple if you do it via them)

  • Slightly Cracked iPad Screen

I have a first generation iPad and there's a small crack on the screen near one of the sides. It's mainly noticeable just when you turn the iPad, but less seen when in the normal position. The sides of the iPad are also dented a little bit, but they, nor the small crack in the screen, effect the functionality of the device (from what I can tell, it works fine).
Anyway, how much do you think Apple would charge to get a replacement? (Since they don't actually repair their products, correct?) I've read that if you go to the store and manage to have some luck, they might give you a brand new device right on the spot. That hasn't been the case for some people though and they probably no longer have any iPad 1's in stock because of the iPad 2 release, right?

    Hello:
No one here can answer your question.  These are user-to-user forums.  Why not go to the Apple store and see what, if anything, they might do?
