I have 2 apple ID's and need to delete one to add the email address as a 2nd email address

Can't be done.
Get a third email address.
Change the second Apple ID to the third email address - one you do not intend to use. You may then be able to add the erroneously created Apple ID's email to the first Apple ID. I do not know if the system will permit this but it's the best workaround I can think of.

I created 2 apple ID's. One with an email I dont' really use and have the mail forwarded to a newer account and the other was created using my me.com email that I don't use as my email either. I'd like to keep the first apple ID, its the one that is used most. But then I can't tie my me.com email to my icloud because it thinks that it is a separate person ans asks me to choose a different me.com amil user name. What can I do? No, not to my knowledge. Once created, an Apple ID exists forever.
You described the problem correctly - you created a @me.com Apple ID that you use for iCloud, and it would be simple to use it for everything. I think that is what you ought to do.
Delete the email address associated with the first Apple ID, since that ID doesn't correspond to an email address you use any longer anyway. Then, add it to the @me.com account. I have attempted to have identical email addresses exist for two different Apple IDs and it didn't let me, though I have heard of people who did this successfully. I cannot explain the discrepancy.
Once you delete the email address from the first Apple ID, it may take a few moments for their system to recognize it is no longer associated with anything. After that you should be able to add it to the @me.com account.
But I have purchases on the first account I dont want to lose.
That's a problem. The purchases will remain with the first Apple ID. It's up to you to determine if they're worth purchasing again, since that is what will be required if you intend to associate those purchases with the @me.com ID.
If anyone has any better ideas please let me know.

1. Don't confuse "Apple ID" with iTunes Account ID. You can have many Apple IDs but only one iTunes account active at a time.
2. If you "changed" your iTunes account ID, you actually have 2 accounts - one under the old name plus the new name.
3. You can't merge the accounts - they remain separate. Apps purcahsed under the old account name will update ONLY WHEN THE PHONE IS SIGNED IN TO THE OLD ACCOUNT NAME and visa versa.
4. Likewise, you can sync only the apps, music, media purchased under the account the phone AND iTunes are signed in to.

That's the classic behaviour after using Migration Assistant and that's normal.

If you abandon one of the Apple IDs you will also basically be abandoning any content that you have acquired with that Apple ID. Content can only be updated and re-downloaded with the Apple ID that was used to buy it. Apple will not combine the content of Apple IDs and Apple will not transfer the content from one Apple ID to another Apple ID.

Is it possible that you are using the same password for the old O2 Study and newer O2 Apple Base Station networks?
If so, Keychain Access is storing the old information about the old network and may be associating it with your AirPort Extreme settings based on the BSSID that William has mentioned.
If that's the case, open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > KeyChain Access and look for a listing with the old network name. Delete this entry. You may need to power down both the computer and the AirPort Extreme and restart them.

You can neither merge or delete them. Pick one and stop using the other. If they both have purchases associated with them you will have to keep using both.

Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

1) Open itunes on the computer you want to deactivate. Make sure you are logged in. Under the "Store" menu, pull down top "De-authorize this computer"
2) If you no longer have, or access to, the computer(s) you want to deauthorise,
Log in to iTunes, go to "view your account info" on the itunes store,
Deauthorise all five,
(Please Note: this can only be done Once every 12 months)

Open Mail, Contacts, & Calendars from System Preferences. If you have more than one iCloud account in the list, you can try deleting one of them.
My list has 2 set up. I've never figured out why, but it had something to do with me changing email addresses. When I set it to use Mail, it always creates the second account. If this is the case for you, unselect all but Mail for the second one and select the other uses in the first.
You might try to select all in the first and deselect all in the second and see if it sticks with Mail in the first one. If it does, you can delete the second one.

Both accounts are completely independent from each other. In order to use the space that you have purchased for your secondary account, you must change it to become your primary account. Yes, as you said, services like photo stream only work with the primary account. Unfortunately, there is no comfortable way to just transfer data from one account to another one, but you can do it via a third party application e.g. via Dropbox: e.g. for photos: photos stored with your current primary account > manual transfer to dropbox > after you made your secondary account to the primary account, transfer the photos back to your new primary account etc.

I seem to have two email accounts with my service provider and they are receiving the same email as far as I can see. Can I delete one and feel safe that I am receiving all of my email.

Are they going to the same "Incoming Mail Server", logging in with the same "User Name" ? If so, they are two instances of the same account, and one can certainly be deleted with impunity.
