I created a holiday music library

I created a new library just for holiday music but cannot figure out how to get the music from my original library to the new one made just for the holiday music.  The purpose was to have a seperate place for the holiday music and not have it in my regular itunes, can anyone tell me how to do this?
Thanks.

Have you got the music tagged as "Holiday" in some way? For example, genre or comment has "holiday"?
If so, create a smart playlist, export the playlist (rightclick on the playlist, export), then change libraries and try importing the playlist into the new library. It should work, but I've never tried doing it this way (I get hands on, drag-and-dropping files individually).

  • How can I create a new Music Library?

Had to buy new laptop which of course has Vista. The old unit was acting up(I think Windows XP was corrupt), so I saved my Library Files but it looks like the old machine only saved portions not the whole Library. I had approx. 13,000 tunes (35GB) in the LIbrary and all that was saved seems to be 319 tunes. I have all the music on an external HD and only the Library was on the laptop. My question is, how can I create a new Library from the external HD music? Is there a way or am I SOL? Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated.

You need the entire libary on the external, not just media.

Once you get a complete iTunes folder on the external drive, start iTunes with the option/alt key held down and select the iTunes Library.itl file on the external drive.  You will also need to do this with your main computer or the libraries will become unsynchronized.
Alternatively you can make a separate library using the same media on the second computer. Start as you have been doing, let iTunes create a new, blank library file which will be on hte internal drive, set the media folder location in preferences to be the one on the external drive, then add the files to the new iTunes library. Unless you are a super-organized individual, or you don't care if your libraries do not have the same content, you are better off using a single library file that is on the external, not setting up separate library files.

  • Re-ripping CD's in lossless creates duplicates in music library

    Hi,
My music has already been ripped into iTunes using AAC 256kbps which is fine for mobile music. I'm planning on picking up an Apple TV for a music only server to my home music system and I want to re-rip my music into iTunes using Apple Lossless. I created a new folder under playlists for the lossless music but duplicate copies remain in the music library! Is there a way for me to re-rip my music and have it in one folder and not have the duplicates in the music library? Thanks in advance!
    Cheers,
    Brent

I think I understand what you want to do.
I have about 200 CD's and a dozen albums bought from the iTunes Store. I thought about ripping all my CD's in Lossless format and then creating AAC versions from these. Music streamed to my Airport Express should be Lossless whenever possible, while music on my iPhone should only be AAC versions.
In iTunes, the "Music" category will contain both versions, as "Music" is your music library. You can create smart playlists to select only Lossless or AAC versions, but you can't have "Music" show only one of these versions.
At the moment, iTunes isn't able to handle the same song in different formats (the way I want it to). Ideally, there would be an option like "Prefer Lossless version" or "Use AAC versions when syncing iPhone/iPod" or something like that. You could also use two separate iTunes libraries (start iTunes while holding the Option key).
    Kind regards,
    Michael

  • I can't seem to create another iTunes music library...  Please Help...

I have tried what iTunes v9 tells me to do by holding the shift key while starting iTunes from the start menu...
    It doesn't work.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Has anyone found a fix yet?

You need to press AND HOLD the shift key. Keep holding it down until the prompt comes up.
If you still can't get it to work from the start menu, try it by clicking itunes.exe in
    C:\Program Files

  • How can I retain original data when copying Music Library to 2nd computer?

I created my iTunes music library (about 1300 songs) on my Power Book, and I want to maintain a complete backup on my new Mac Pro. I tried this by copying the entire Music folder from the Power Book via firewire to the Mac Pro. However, iTunes on the Mac Pro launched a blank Library page. So I used the Import command to load the Library from the copied files.
This seems fine except the Date Added column listed the current date for the entire library. For various reasons, I need the original Date Added for each song, along with any and all notes, ratings, and edits on every song.
Is there a way I make iTunes on the Mac Pro recognize and open the original Library files instead of starting a new document?
    Thanks.

    Unfortunately, I did not succeed.
After following all the steps, the results were the same as before. Launching iTunes on the Mac Pro produced a blank library. So I went to a folder in the copied iTunes Music file and clicked on a song, which launched iTunes with the song ready to play. But it had no play count, none of the original Date Added information, no ratings. It was as if I had just purchased 1300 songs within the last 15 minutes. Therefore it made no sense to waste time "importing" the entire old library into the new one, because the "vital statistics" would be missing.
I repeated the exercise several times to see if I made a mistake. Once, after navigating to the "location where you would like your new Music folder to be created, " I bypassed the New Folder button and just clicked the existing empty folder. That didn't work. Then I created a folder and named it "iTunes Music folder new." The song files went into that folder okay, but the data didn't.
I tried moving the folder from the Hard Drive location (where it landed by default after I created it) into the User file's Music folder where the old iTunes Music folder was located. Still didn't work.
I performed these operations after connecting a firewire cable between my Power Book and the Mac Pro. I used the Power Book as the host computer, because it contains the original library. I started the Mac Pro in Target Disk Mode.
I launched iTunes in the Power Book and followed the transfer instructions, as described above.
I think I've spent no less than six hours trying to accomplish what ought to be a straightforward task. I've been using Macs since the mid-1980s, but this iTunes stuff tops my list in sheer frustration. What am I missing?

  • Completely Empty Music Library

Yesterday I was uploading a cd into my iTunes library when my computer suddenly froze. I restarted the computer and opened iTunes again, only to find that my entire library was gone except for the cd I had recently uploaded. I loaded my "iTunes music" folder back into the library, but I was missing around 400 songs. Today when i went back into iTunes, I recieved this error warning:
"The file 'iTunes 4 music library.itl' does not appear to be a valid music library file. iTunes has created a new music library and renamed this file to 'iTunes 4 music library (damaged).itl"
I currently have 0 songs in my library. Where did they all go? Is it possible to simply transfer all the songs from my ipod back onto my computer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like that iTunes file got damaged somehow. All you need to do is find the folder that contains your music files on your PC, then drag it over the word 'Library' in the left column of iTunes. This will put your iTunes library back like it was.

  • How to make my music library on my iPhone appear the way I wanted?

Hi there, I have created my own music library by ligit CDs and have purchased some songs through iTunes, it is saved onto my macbook pro, since I have songs in Chinese, Japanese and English, I have re-arranged and re-editded my music library my own way of song titles, artist names, album titles, artwork, year of album release etc (part of the reason is that sometimes song data from iTunes were incorrect). And, I would like to duplicate my music library / playlist in the same way of appearance on my iPhone 5s and iPod touch, I have turned off all the auto downloads on music settings and iCloud settings, and I am only copying my music from Macbook to iPhone through a cable, but it still won't work and still appear how the song, artist, artwork was shown in iTunes.
Is there any way to make it work? Its really frustrated as the data of the songs are incorrect, I could change anything in my library in my Macbook, but I can't duplicate that onto my iPhone and iPod.....
    Thanks a lot...!

  • Cleaning and Updating Music Library's

I created a large music library from many CD’s and organized them into several sub-folders by artist name within a master “My Music Folder”. I then imported the “My Music Folder” into iTunes. The process worked great but when I reviewed the details in iTunes and on my iPod, I found duplicates, some misspellings, and duplicate artist names (i.e. “Beatles” and “The Beatles; “Clash” and “The Clash” I would like to clean up the library and organize the music to reduce the duplicates, simplify the artist list by a common name, and correct wrong information and in some cases add info to the artists.
My question is where is the best place to make these changes so that I can have one integrated and master music library incorporating the changes? Should the edits be done in the original folders or should the edits be done in iTunes and then saved as a new exported library? Or is there a better or recommended way?
    Thank you,

Use the (free) software Mp3tag. It can do 'Actions' to update, e.g. all "The Beatles" by "Beatles" etc. I just cleaned my ~4,000 songs library using that. iTunes is doable, but nowhere near as flexible. You may want to clean everything first and then reimport everything into iTunes for cleanest results.

  • Questions Re: Restoring iTunes Music Library?

I've lost a substhantial amount of album art and I'm looking for the easiest way to replace it.
I know there is an iTunes backup for apps but are backups automatically created for the music library, and if so, how do I restore it?
I also have a recent backup of the music library on my external hard drive. If I restore the backup and I had, say 400 songs at the time, but now have 450, would the restore backup the orginals and leave the newer additions, or would it wipe out eveything leaving me with only the original 400?
    Thanks for your help.

  • HT1589 what's the best way to move content to a new library I created ie a holiday music only library?

what's the best way to move content to a new library I created ie a holiday music only library?

    Sophie:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You're only hope to recover the library as it once was is to: 1 - if you have a backup copy of your iPhoto Library or 2 - you can put everything back exactly the way it was in the Finder.
Otherwise you'll have to start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your current library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

After creating a new playlist in iTunes, how can I add my entire music library --at once-- to the new playlist. I want to download all my music from Icloud at once on my Macpro

You have two separate questions here...
To get all your music into one playlist, select Music in the sidebar and click the Songs view at the top. Then, highlight all the songs and drag them into your playlist.
I don't know if it's possible to download all Purchased content (or do you mean iTunes Match content?) at once; try a few Google searches.

  • HT1349 I just purchased  new PC with windows 8.1 and downloaded Itunes, but when I try to add my Music Library from the back up dvd's I created off my old computer it doesn't automatically start the back up process like it did before. How can I "restore"

I just purchased a new PC with windows 8.1 and downloaded new itunes, but when I try to "restore" my music library from the DVDS i made from my old pc it doesn't automatically restore my library as it used to.  How do I restore my music library from DVDS?

Thanks but I already did read all of the help notes, which aren't very helpful for this.  I did find out the problem- Apple.....they evidently changed one of the major upsides to their old software- being able to back up your entire library onto dvd's- so you can longer do that or restore from the dvds created from older versions of itunes.  I suspect greed is at play in that Apple now wants you to pay $24.95 per year to use a "cloud" service where they back it up for you.  I can buy a lifetime supply of back up dvds for one year's worth of cloud.  So I am now looking into other music software as I am Appled-out.  There is no reason for them to take away the back up portion of the software other than to sell you thrir cloud service.  As we have already given them a ton of money for 5 Ipods and a bunch of music, I think we have contributed enough.  Time to look to solutions outside of the Apple money tree.  But thank you for reading and replying.

I created several ringtones for my iPhone 5 from songs in my iTunes music library but they are only 1 second long.  I need to delete them and recreated them so they are 30 seconds long.  How do I remove them from my iPhone and iTunes?

No -- an iTunes sync has no effect on photos in the Camera Roll; each time you sync using iTunes it sets the non-Camera Roll photos on the phone to match the current iTunes setting/selections.
