I'd like a complete alphabetical list of albums in my library.

any simple way to do this? i'm transferring my cds to itunes ( a lot). it would be nice to be able to find and album on a master printed alphabetized list for easy reference. eventually id like an alphabetized song list too.

In case you plan to move to Leopard one day, there is a great sofware called "Delicious Library" that you can download from delicious-monster.com, which does exactelly what you want and more.
It automatically indexes your Itunes Library, show everything on shelves with artworks or as an alphabetic list.
It does a lot more, as it includes a bar-code scanning utility that works with any webcam and find online the name, cover page, characteristics and user's comments from Amazon. It can index everything you want : CD, DVD, Books..
Unfortunatelly it does not run with Tiger...

in numbers, how would I make a line for each family (100+) a column for each fundraiser. and at mid year, and year end be able to print an alphabetical listing?

Using Numbers '09 (the Mac version), I'd use a table with one header row and two header columns.
Family     Total     Ent.Books     Chip S.     Y. Candle
Smith, J      $695        350            245             100
Jones, T      $765        250            445               70
An ascending sort on column A will put the families in alphabetical order (and carry the rest of the row along with them).
The formula =SUM(2) in B2, and filled down from there, keeps the total for each family right beside the family name.
You could add a Footer row at the bottom to keep totals for each column. Formula for column B: =SUM(B)
I would leave the currency signs ($) off the amounts—they just clutter up the table.
This assumes that the features listed are all supported on Numbers for iOS, the version running on your iPad.

I know how to do the updates. What I dont know is what size each update that I have completed was. I am having a data usage disagreement with my Telco and want to prove to them that this computer did not download the amount of data they are claiming it did.

Creating alphabetical list of dvds?

I'm sure this isn't the correct place for this post so forgive me in advance. Does anyone know the best way to creat an alphabetical list of my dvds without having to buy a separate program? I have i-work and have tried to use numbers to create a spreadsheet using separate columns for Blu-ray, DVD, TV shows and i-Tunes movies but after typing the movies and sorting the column it messes up and doesn't list them alphabetically and the column next to the marked one goes all funky.

Alphabetic Listing of Songs

How do I list the songs in iTunes in the normal alphabetical listing?
As they are lsited now, included in the list of all song names starting with "A" would be song names like "The Apple" or "The Archies".
How would I change the listing to have "The Apple" and "The Archies" under song names starting with "T"?

This sorting issue was the source of much frustration for myself for a long time as I wanted the albums on my iPod to show up in the order that they were released, not alphabeticaly. (yeah I'm anal!)Easy enough task in iTunes, but difficult on your iPod.The way I did it was to go into the sort menu of the first song of an album and under 'album name' insert the year of release BEFORE the title. eg, 1983 Texas Flood. (And here is where it relates to you,) The next step is to select the entire album, right click, and instead of selecting 'get info', click on 'apply sort field'. Another drop box appears,you then click on whichever is appropriate, in my case, 'same album'. The same technique can be used to sort artists. In this example, under 'sort artist name',I entered 'Vaughn Stevie Ray', he is now listed under V instead of S. You can do all the sort changes you like for an album in one hit and when you click on 'apply sort field', select the option 'all matching fields'. You can sort the artist name on all of the albums by one artist in one hit using this method, just be sure to only choose the 'same artist' option when doing it or you'll stuff up album titles as well. Also be aware that when applying sort fields to multple tracks, that the track at the top of the list is dominate and all those below will be made to match it. If you sort the artist by their surname and it begins with a letter that is closer to Z than their first name is, eg: Ben Harper, the first track you change will drop below the rest (if your library is set to display albums by artist)because it is now by Harper Ben, not Ben Harper. To combat this you will need to go to the column heading where it says 'album by artist' and click on it. This should reverse the order and put the newly altered track back at the top where you need it.(Hint It helps to isolate artists or albums you are sorting by locating them via the search menu in the top right hand corner of your library before you start, so you don't have your entire library jumping all over the place at once.) Good luck, hours of 'fun',I can assure you.

Mailbox Alphabetical Listing Not Working

In the past, when I would create a new email Mailbox, it would line up alphabetically with the existing Mailboxes. Now when I create a new Mailbox, it shows up at the bottom of the existing list. How do I make the new ones become part of the alphabetical list?

I don't want a workaround either. I went to the Apple Store, and the Genius said there is no solution to this right now and to post feedback on apple.com. There may be a complex solution, but I wanted a simple one (i.e., defaulting to sort the mailboxes in ascending order, alphabetically). For now, you'll have to drag them into the right order. Or you could switch to a third-party email client (Thunderbird) or a web app (gmail or Google Inbox).
I use Google Inbox in beta, and it's working great! I'll send you an invite, if you like. I think web apps for mail are where we are going in the future of email management.

Copy the words to the Mac's clipboard (Edit menu> Copy)
Paste into TextEdit
Next open the Edit > Find > Find window in Text Edit.
Highlight a space between two words and Edit menu > copy, paste into the Find field
Next create a return in the middle of your text and copy that and paste into the Replace field
Click Replace All.
Now Edit > Select All and Edit > Copy
Open a Spreadsheet program with Sort ability and paste into the second column cell from the top

Now if you need it out of spreadsheet format, then your going to need to copy just the data cells (not the entire column to avoid problems) and Paste "Special" as unformatted text into a word processing program

A chore, but it's rare one needs to sort words into alaphabetical order.
FYI, I used TextEdit and the free LibreOffice (Spreadsheet and Word Processing) for the above effects.

Podcast feed broken in two in "Podcast" view, but complete in "List" view iTunes 11

Hi all,
Today I updated to iTunes 11 on my Windows 7 laptop. When I went to update some podcasts I subscribe to I noticed that there were two lists for a couple of the different podcasts inthe defaualt view.
I thought perhaps there was something wrong with my .xml feed and spend a long time checking my feed file. Nothing looked odd, and I didn't remember seeing two feeds in prior versions of iTunes.
At this point I clicked on "Lists" at the top. There was only one album for the podcast AND all episodes were listed there, where they should be. Seems like a bug in the new GUI for iTunes 11.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? The podcast I'm subscribed to is: http://www.recastweb.com/podcasts/Weekly.xml http:///www.recastweb.com/podcasts/Luke.xml is experiencing the same odd display too.

I'd like to have this list view back as well.
It was usefull for choosing a podcast based on date and/or length.

I can see how you do that when using the 'normal' emailing system from my mailing box, but not when working from the contact application (the 'book' on the bottom icon bar with the @ on it)....

EDIT: I've been doing more research about Layout Managers and it appears that BoxLayout may provide me with the solution I need. I'll mess around with it for awhile and report back if I still need help. Thanks pals!+
I would like to make a list of JPanels laid out in basically a column. One on top of the other. That's not so difficult, but I need to make it able able to add and remove panels in response to user-driven events (in other words, I can't just hard-code them all, and the panels are generated on the fly, so I don't even know how many I'll need to be displaying until I need to display them.
Here's a simple mockup of the window I'm talking about.

|____________|At first, I thought a JList would serve my purpose, but you can't add interactive Swing components to JLists (or JTables)... they'll render, but that's all. My panels will contain a button and a checkbox, so this is a no-go.
I was also thinking I could just manage the placement with GridBagLayout and just keep indexes for the current y position, but if there's an easier way, I'd rather not go this route. It has me writing a lot of extra code and manipulating a lot of fields of GridBagConstraints, which opens me to less-understandable code and more error-prone code, on account of I'm great at making little mistakes when I'm setting craploads of constraints.
Does anyone have any ideas? It'd be ideal if there was just some sort of container I could plop them in with add and remove methods (a la JTabbedPane or something).
I'm pretty new to Swing, so maybe I'm missing something obvious.

I would recommend using BoxLayout or Box.createVerticalBox(). As mKorbel already mentioned, you need to call revalidate() after adding any component to an already realized/visible container, and additionally call repaint() after removing a component. To resize the top level window to accommodate its new content, you would call pack(). Or, again as suggested by mKorbel, wrap your panel/Box in a JScrollPane.

The question that needs to be answered is what is separating the columns? Is it a single tab, one or more tabs, spaces, or what? Or is it the brackets that makes the separation between the three pieces of data?
If it is always a single tab, that makes it really easy. All you have to do is find/replace the brackets with nothing (as Wayne said)
If it might be multiple tabs, you can find/replace tab-tab with a single tab and repeat that a few times until no more double-tabs are found.
If it is one or multiple spaces, that might be difficult. I'll think about this one if this is what you have. I'll ignore this possiblility for now.
If it is the brackets separating the three pieces of data, you would Find/Replace the left bracket with a tab then do the same with the right bracket.

if your with an official US carrier what you are refering to is visual voicemail.
Go to settings then general, then Cellular.
There turn cellular data off, then back on.
Now go to voicemail and add your voicemail password, now you should have visual voicemail.

You only get the 'index' running down the right of the screen if you have enough items in that category. Somewhere over 20-30, I believe.

That's an excellent analogy. While FCP cannot export FLV. It is possible to do a very simple substitution. If you export a QuickTime movie using the .mov suffix with the H.264 codec, you can change it to FLV simply by changing the suffix to .flv. This is an acceptable format for Flash movies on most web sites, if that's where you're trying to go.
