I'd like help choosing an MSI mainboard(not so sure after seeing many problems)

Well now I'm really confused.
I have a couple of friends who are big MSI fans and they're making different recommendations.
One says P965 Platinum and the other says P6N SLI Platinum, and when I go online to check them out, I find a couple of other MSI choices that look good too.
So here’s what I have in mind for use.
•   I’m not a game player, and I won’t overclock much, if at all. but I do want to use Vegas Video and Adobe After Effects, and other video processing software.
•   I also want to use MS Office for Access database, Excel, etc.
•   Also some large Photoshop files.
As far as the configuration I plan to use:
•   4GB DDR2 6400
•   e6600 cpu
•   I will run XP, but probably move to Vista, on SP1 or maybe SP2
•   I’m thinking of getting a single Radeon x1950 pro (don’t think I’ll ever need a second graphics card)
•   I may get a caviar 10,000 for drive C: system and programs and already have 4 – 300 GB SATAII for RAID 5
•   I need at least one 1394, but 2 would be handy.
•   I need at least one gigabit Ethernet, but a second would be handy too (I have network storage)
I’m fairly knowledgeable on setting up computers, but hate messing too much with the BIOS, if I don’t have to.
Did I forget anything?
I’m looking for something very stable and quite fast, but doesn’t have to be gaming fast.
So my question is – which of the above boards is better suited for my needs and why?
Or is there a better MSI for my purposes – and why?

I would like to upgrade to the next step, but because I have many problems with the version 10.4.11, I'm worried that upgrading would create more problems.

Due to a misunderstanding with [email protected] in September of 2010, many of my applications and important files were put into the trash during a cleaning. The trash hadn't been deleted, so a CleanApp rep told me to drag my important files to a folder on my desktop. They were unable to help me with anymore advice with the exception that if I followed the pathway of the application, I could manually restore it to its proper location.
This was asking a lot of me because I didn't have the experience or knowledge of undertaking such a massive restoration. However, I did the best I could. What had been put in the trash was not just a few files -- there were hundreds of files or apps that I discovered in the trash. As I said, this was a misunderstanding. It won't necessarily make it worse, but may not make it better. I am not familiar with the utility you usedm though anything that cleans or maintains your Mac should be avoided unless you know what you are doing and what it does. Probably re-installing software from the official sources (download or CDs) is the best way to ensure missing parts are all replaced.
If this is a core duo and not a core 2 duo then the highest you can go is Snow Leopard 10.6 Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..." Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).

Help! My mac is not starting up after install of tiger.

Just to let everyone know I'm a young girl and I'm pretty useless with computers.
After having a 'invalid node structure' on my mac and fixing it manually, the volume could not be repaired. So I've erased the Macintosh HD 'i think' after it saying 'resource busy' numerous times. I finally had a destination to install Tiger (before there wasn't one showing up) and I installed. Now the computer has installed successfully and is stuck on the white screen with the apple symbol and the loading circle thing. What do i do to make the computer start?
P.S. I used to have leopard. (but i couldn't find the re-install discs. Also the Macintosh HD is repaired and fine. I'm not sure that the OS x is 10.4.2 I guessed because it was tiger.

Hi there, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Do you know the age of your iMac or the exact model, Tiger won't work on the newer ones, like if it came with Leopard or greater.
Try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If that doesn't work report back please.

I tried changing the element name to CF_COST_VALUE1 in the group G_ACQUISITION and running, but the problem persisted.

got the solution.. i changed the element name cost_value in the group G_ACQUISITION to cost and ran the program. it picked data correctly

1 - unless you tell us more then anything would be a wild guess - what happens? what error messages do you get?
and why would you use iPhoto rather than Mail anyway - mail has more templates, has a sent mail box, uses you address book lists and lets you control the message format so PC users can receive photos - and works for everyone

Help! Trackpad gestures are not working properly after Yosemite update

So yesterday I updated my MBA to Yosemite. And since then I'm facing severe problems with my trackpad. Scroll and click gesture works as usual, but the other gestures suddenly stops working. I even checked my trackpad settings, but couldn't find any setting issues there. They won't just respond to any. Is it just me or everyone is facing such issues.

worse than that, my MacBook Pro FREEZES when using 4 finger swipe on the built-in trackpad for App Expose after upgrade to 10.10.1
Before 10.10.1 everything was working fine. Now, about one third of the time I use the 4 finger swipe the computer is dead (apparently mostly when using Numbers). I can still use the mouse but no response to clicks, keyboard, trackpad, or screaming out loud. All I can do is turn it off!
This (in combination with Mail issues) is so bad that for the first time since using Mac I start thinking going back to PC...

Need Help new Nano mp3 player, not really sure how to use it

I cant get any music on the player, im using morpheus downloaded files, is this a problem or is there a way for me to reformat them or what. Im new to this so i really have no idea what to do. Thanks.

What format are the files in? As far as I can see Morpheus is a P2P file sharing program, not a specific file format so it depends on which files you download. The Nano will play mp3 and wma files.
As long as they are one of these types of file you should be able to download them to your PC and then drag'n'drop them onto your Nano using Windows Explorer.

Ask for help: NEW PC (MSI H97 Gaming3) would not boot

Dear all, I am skilled computer person. I my life I did build many computers. But this time I have an issue with power up and boot.
I have components:
1) new MSI mainboard H97 Gaming 3
2) new INTEL CPU Core i5 4460 BOX with default fan and heatsink
3) new MSI VGA 285 R9 (working in other computer so VGA is OK)
4) new 1600 MHz RAM ADATA CL9 2x4GB set. I also tried RIPJAWS CL7 2x4GB 1600MHz
To be exact I did test these two RAM sets: RIPJAWS G.SKILL F3-1280CL7D-8GBXM and ADATA AX3U1600W4G9-DMV CL9.
5) new 700W power source 90+ efficiency. I tried other Power source (got same error with MSI H97) which works in other computer, so the issue does not seem to be the power source.
This is the behaving of the new system: on Power ON the all componets switch on, fan rotate the Sound Boost light up in red, but all run only for 3s and than automatically switch off. After 2s it automatically start again and switch on for 3s and again switch off and on again and again and again same in cyrcle. When I push Power off button for 5s it completely power Off. The Debug LED blink for 16x times.
I tried to power on without the VGA MSI 285 R9. Same issue as with VGA pluged in.
When I put the RAM out, the computer starts and buzzer beep like there is no RAM, so normal behaving. But with RAM inserted it behaves strange. I did test two set of RAM with CL7 and CL9 all 1600 MHz. Is there any limitation for 1600MHz and CL ? Should I try 10CL or 11CL ? Or limitation in 2x4GB sets? I did not find any such information in any manual for the H97 Gaming 3 board.
I tried to reset the BIOS by shorten the pins, has no effect on the problem.
I was thinking about some low fan rotation protection but I do not think this should be a problem?
I can not find anywhere the debug LED coder for H97. There is no LED display like Z97 has, only one single led that blinks. In my case blinked 16x.
Can you help me? What can be wrong and prevents normal boot?

there is about a hard plug of the 24pin power connector to the board. In my case the 24pin connector is also very hard to plug into the board. But I tried to plug it without damaging the board by force. So it should fit inside. But I will try to check again.

What are your requirements - screen size/ storage/CPU/GPU/ screen real estate (4K/3k/1080/)/weight/ material - those requirements would help to narrow down the choices since there are so many... I need help choosing a new MBP (previous one was stolen)

Hello everyone, I need help choosing my next macbook pro because my previous one (15" Core i7 high res anitglare screen) was stolen . As you probably tell I spent a lot of money on my previous one and now I am a broke college student that doesn't have $2,400 to drop on a replacement.
So this is where you come in... because of budget reasons I have been looking at the 13 inch macbook pro but I just cannot bring myself to spend $1200 on a laptop with old technology (Core 2 duo processor) not to mention it is only 2.4ghz. I am not really sure what to ask about it I think i just need some good stats or other convincing information to allow me to buy it.
I know about the student discount and the refurb. macs, are there any other reliable ways to get a less expensive MBP?
I am a converted PC user and I LOVE macs, please don't let my budget make me revert back to a PC...

Prey Project is an open source program I use on my MacBook Pro, it’s a program that can track your computer and phones if stolen using GPS / Google Maps etc to give you location of it.
It will also take pictures of who is in front of it, log what they are doing etc.

Hello.
I have bought a new computer a week ago.
First time i started the computer, two of the light diodes on the ram slot 3 and 4 was red. And have been ever since.
The bios was on default, and the computer freezez now and then, maybe every hour or something. I tried to take out the 3 and 4 memory module and set the memory volt on 1.9. And everything worked very fine.
So i tought maybe i should innstall the other two again. And now the computer is just unstable, artifacts in games, suddenly's restart's m.m.
i know its something about "spd" ,but that its way over my league.
So my questions, what is the right numbers to fill inn. ? and is it because of the memroy i have this problems?

I think you are going to need to go into the bios and manually set the memory voltage and the memory settings.
Try setting the memory voltage in the bios to 1.9 and then manually set the memory settings to 7-7-7-20 and see if that works. If not; then change the memory settings 8-8-8-21 and see if that helps. You might also need to up the northbridge voltage a notch or two since you are running memory in all four slots.

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
