I deleted all my Keychain Certificates

Must have been during a rabid senior moment. Now I get all these untrusted certificate messages in email and Safari, and they are going into Keychain. However as best as I can tell, I need to obtain a Root Certificate from the Certificate Authority (CA) or the Issuer who appears to be VeriSign. Evidently one can spot the Root Certificate because they have nice golden borders vice the plain blue borders, and they are supposed to live in the X509Anchors. This is what I THINK that I understand. However, when I tried an online chat with a VeriSign rep. it rapidly went down hill and he talked about thousands of certificates and CAs etc. I did mention that to date every certificate that I have seen appears to have been issued by them; _VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5.cer_
I did get an email address and have tried the Keychain Access Certificate Assistant - Request a certificate from an existing CA. I am waiting to see what that will result in.
However, I am curious to see if there are others out there who have experienced this and if they have gotten a real fix.
Thanks,
DN

Hi DN, I've seen this a few times, the cure is to restore from a backup, copy from another machine, do an Archive & install, or try these...

  • Deleted all my keychains

I went to delete one entry in my keychain and deleted everything.
I have tried restoring from my back up idisk which seems to work but then says restore cancelled in history, which it was not.
I am unable to unlock keychains as it won't accept my system manager password which is all I have ever used.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hello,
You could try to enable the root account and login using that account to gain access to make changes to your keychain.
Use the NetInfo Manager and go to security and "enable" entering the root account password.
Log out and log back in using the unknown account with the root credentials.
Make your keychain adjustments and go back to NetInfo Manager and disable the root account.
Log out and back in with your normal account.
I don't know if this will fix your issue with any absolution, but it's easy enough to try it.

  • Reinstall deleted Keychain Certificates

Hello. I thought it would extremely wise to go ahead and delete all of the x.509 certificates in Keychain. I had a great time doing it and look forward to doing it again someday!
Okay. Actually I won't do it again. I don't want to discuss it. What I would like to discuss is how do I go about getting the certificates back in there. Is there something on the Tiger install disk? I didn't see any way to just install certificates or just install Keychain.
My Mac experience is now very annoying without my Keychain certificates. I wish they were back in my Keychain now. I miss them.
Looking forward to some professional help.

  • HT204085 How can we delete all the data from iphone keychain of all the apps?

Is it possible to delete all the data from keychain? Cleaning keychain, which delete all the item stored in keychain of all the applications on iDevices. Programatically can we do it?

Depends whether you have selected Lock when Full or Wrap when Full for the Buffer Mode. If you have selected Lock When Full, the capture will stop when the the buffer is full. You can then Save the Buffer and download it in the form of sniffer file and start you capture again. This will over write the old data. If you have selected Wrap when Full, then it will continue the capture when the buffer is full. The oldest packets are discarded as new packets arrive.

  • Keychain periodically deletes all my passwords!

Hi guys. For some reason, Keychain will periodically delete all the passwords I have saved for no apparent reason. This is the third time it's happened and it's really starting to make me wary of using it at all. Each time it's hapened after I turn off my iMac overnight then switch it on the next day and poof! - passwords deleted. I've tried 'Keychain First Aid' in "Keychain -> Access -> Keychain menu" but each time it tells me that there's nothing wrong with it. Can someone please offer any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Deleting a Single corrupt certificate

I have found a single corrupt certificate in my key chains. Even clicking on it in order to delete it crashes Keychain access. Is there any way to go (through Teminal maybe?) in without opening Keychain access and delete this single certificate so I don't have to rebuild my whole keychain from scratch? (I have backups, but I guess this one has been corrupt for some time, as it has made it into all my backups corrupted)

Tried Keychain first aid, no luck, no errors found. Should have mentioned that. But it still hangs when I try to do anything with the certificate in question. Also should probably mention how I found it. The certificate is for signing e-mails for a friend of mine. When I try to open any of his e-mails, mail hangs- apparently when it looks at the certificate.

  • Deleting X509 anchors and certificates

Mail server certificates (file extension .cer) can be added as X509 anchors or as certificates. If one wants to delete an anchor or certificate from wherever they are kept (where are they?) how does one do it?

    Hi rha3675, Peter,
I have not tried any of this but it would be my guess that the only thing either of you can do is to delete every reference you can find to the contents of the keychains. It sounds like some of the applications themselves keep references to what they store in the keychain. It's possible that that information is reread when the system boots so you might try a reboot but if the apps keep references then you'll have to delete them, possibly by hand.
After the reboot I would first open the Keychain Access application and delete every item in every keychain. In each keychain, select the "All Items" category, select and delete all entries. You might have to delete the keychains but hopefully not.
Then look for references in the individual applications. For instance, open the Safari preferences, select the "AutoFill" tab, edit each type of form and remove all of the references. Do the corresponding thing with each problematic application.
Then I would use Pacifist as I described above and reinstall the default keychains and keys. Having the public keys of major authorities like VeriSign and Thawte is really convenient when surfing the web. Finally, I would reboot again.

  • I opened a file on my desktop that I don't remember putting there.  It turned out to be a keychain certificate from a client of ours.  Does this mean that they were spying on me?  What is the deal with that?  Any ideas?

I opened a file on my desktop that I don't remember putting there. We use many photos and I thought it was a photo file I was looking for. It turned out to be a keychain certificate from a client of ours.  Does this mean that they were spying on me?  What is the deal with that?  Any ideas?

Interesting tid bit.  I created an AAC of the original file, deleted the original MP3 from my library and also deleted the Clean matched track from the icloud.
Result is that it matched with the explicit version of Mrs. Officer this time.
What I am curious about is which songs this is happening for. I've went thru a few batched of about 500 songs at a time and redownloaded in 256k for many tracks. Sadly we don't have people to bring this to our attention and I have so much music that it's impossible to go thru every song to make sure I am getting the right version.

  • Reader deletes all URLs after signing

    Hello,
if I've got an pdf-file with URLs in it and I sign the document and save it as an separate file, adobe deletes all URLs.
The URLs still appear underlined and are highlited in blue, but I can't click them anymore.
Normaly I create the pdf.files directly with Word 2010 but the same issue appears when I create them with OpenOffice Writer.
I sign the documents withe the "Sign" option on the right sidebar and my Wacom TouchPad
    Thank You!

    Hello Sabian, thanks for reply.
Yes, I sign with EchoSign, but I don't upload the file enywhere (adobe asks every time me to do it).
What do you mean with "Digital Signature"?
I now tried another signature: right sidebar -> Sign -> Work with Certificates -> Sign with Certificate
That works fine and the URLs are avaible after saving the dicument, but I get this red triangle Watermark on the Background:

  • Keychain Certificate Assistant User interaction is not allowed

    Hi Guys,
I have a problem with my keychain certificate assistant and require your help with it.
hope to have someone who have the same plight as me.
I am trying to use the certificate assistant to request an certificate from CA.
    However i encount this error.
    USer interaction is not allowed
I tried to sent to email and failed too witht the same error.
I have also try to repair via firstaid and all are fine.
Also tried to unlock my keychain but nope still can't
    Any help?

Try running a permissions fix routine on your hard drive using Disk Utility, and then try resetting your home folder permissions by booting to the Lion recovery HD partition (reboot with Command-R held down) and then opening the Terminal (in the Utilities menu) and running the command "resetpassword," which will launch a small password and permissions reset tool. In this tool, select your account and then click the button to reset home folder permissions and ACLs.
After this is done, reboot normally and try creating the certificate again.

  • How to delete all passwords.

I'm taking my iMac in to the Genius bar tomorrow to have them check it because it's running so slow. I have a feelilng that they will keep it for repair and I want to be sure all my passwords for places I shop, etc are off it. I can't find where they are stored. can someone guide me to the location of passwords....particularly those used online.
    Thanks
    Paula

    Hi.
Most of the passwords and Safari fill forms are stored in the keychain. You can access (and delete them) thru Keychain Access, located in Applications/Utilities.
You should also reset Safari and delete cookies and caches from other browsers you use.
    Good Luck.

You can't remove the built-in root certificates, but you can remove their trust bits via the Edit button to prevent Firefox from using them as a trusted root certificate.
Intermediate certificates that Firefox has stored when visiting websites that show as "Software Security Device" should never has trust bits set.
Note that it is the responsibility of a server to send all required intermediate certificates to make it possible to build a certificate chain that ends with a built-in root certificate.

  • Preferences and Keychain certificate problems

I was having a problems with the directory paths on my computer. So I had some IT guy come in and work on my computer at work. Anyway, whatever he did he wiped out all my keychains and preferences. Now I can't save any preferences. I have made sure that they're unlocked, but not matter what I do I can't save any preferences. Desktop, dock, nothing. Also, the keychain certificates are not messed up. When I launch Safari I get the keychain certificate not found. So, I can't save bookmarks or add anything to my bookmarks bar.
How do I fix this problem?

To start with you can run Disk Utility and repair permissions.  This may not take care of them all but at least some major preference settings should be adjusted correctly.

To correctly sell or transfer ownership of a Mac, even to someone in your family, you should follow these instructions.
Disregard anything you are unable to accomplish.
Refer to What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
If you enabled FileVault, disable it in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
"Deauthorize" your iTunes account. Same for Audible if you have one.
System Preferences > iCloud > de-select "Back to My Mac" and "Find my Mac".
Sign out of iCloud. Select "Delete from Mac" when it appears.
Next: Remove all your personal information by completely erasing the Mac's internal storage.
If your Mac shipped with a grey System Install DVD, start your Mac with that disc inserted in the optical drive while holding the c key to boot from it instead of its internal volume, which should be erased before selling it.
If your Mac did not ship with discs, boot OS X Internet Recovery:
using three fingers press and hold the following keys: ⌘(command), option, and R.
With a fourth finger press the power button to turn on the Mac.
Keep the other three fingers where they are until you see the "spinning globe" icon.
This method forces the Mac to download its originally installed OS from Apple's servers, which will not require an Apple ID to install.
Remove any Open Firmware password if you created one: select Firmware Password Utility from the Utilities menu and remove it.
Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Remove any partitions you may have created.
Select the Mac's hard disk icon, then select the "Erase" tab.
Select the "Security Options" button and erase the disk.
The more "securely" you erase the disk, the longer it will take.
The fastest method is sufficient since all but the most expensive techniques and equipment will be able to recover securely erased data.
When it finishes, quit Disk Utility.
Select Install Mac OS X from the Utilities menu.
An Apple ID will not be required. If a prompt for an Apple ID appears, return to Step 5.
Do not create any user accounts.
When it finishes, shut down the computer.
If you want to install the bundled apps that were included with your Mac, restart by using your Applications DVD if one was included, and install the bundled apps. Apps bundled with newer Macs that shipped without discs cannot be transferred. Its new owner must purchase them from the Mac App Store using his or her own Apple ID.
If the Mac is being sold to someone outside the family consider the following additional information:
System Install DVDs that came with your Mac should remain with it forever, and must be included with the sale.
Consider including your AppleCare certificate if you bought it, printed documentation, even the box if you still have it. AppleCare stays with the equipment and is transferable.
Execute a bill of sale showing the Mac's serial number.
Once no longer in your possession, remove the Mac from your devices in My Support Profile.

  • Safari auto-deletes all cookies

So periodically, every few days, Safari automatically deletes all my cookies. I don't want it to do this but I can't find a way to make it stop. It didn't use to happen, it seems to have started happening after an update, so is this normal, was this put in as a security feature, or is some problem afoot?

Since the last raft of updates, I have a problem where all sites I am usually always logged in with are logged out and the username and password no longer fill themselves in, until I re-enter them, and then it will work normally for a few days and then they all get lost again. In Safari Preferences, all cookies are still present, and are forms autofill URLs and keychain shows the site passwords too. Is this what you have?
