I deleted my iTunes library and am trying to restore it

I'm following these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
But they're not working because there is no "import playlist" option under file - library
Can anybody help? Thank you!

It is there... if you actually have the menu enabled.
Cntrl + B toggles the menu.

  • Purchased songs keep showing up after being unchecked and deleted on iTunes library and iPhone, please help

Like the question says, I have about 6 or 7 songs that I want to permanently delete from my iTunes library and iPhone. They keep showing up even after I've unchecked/deleted them. I've used the manual option and selected the artists, genres, etc. that I still want, but the deleted songs keep appearing. I bought these songs off of the iTunes store I didn't use my iPhone. I don't have the iTunes Match option turned on my phone, nor do I use iCloud. I don't know what else to do besides manually selecting all of my songs and putting them into a folder, deleting the blasphemous songs that I don't want anymore, deleting my iTunes library and resetting my iPhone and copying the songs from the folder back into my iTunes library. But has anyone else had this happen to them? I've had an iPod for years now and I've never had this issue before. I'd really like an easier solution here, so does anyone have any ideas?

    The solution is Simple.
    - Goto preferences
    - From there select the 'Devices' tab
    - Now make click the check box close to 'Prevent iPods,iPhones..... from syncing automatically.
Click OK and your problem will be solved.

  • ITunes, library and iPhone after PC restore

    Hi there.
I had to format and restore my PC from scratch. I backed up everything, including my iTunes library and my iPhones backup (backup of a backup).
Now I have installed the latest version of iTunes afresh on my restored PC and authorised my iTunes account.
I have connected my iPhone and after installing the drivers I could back up the data from my iPhone.
Also, I imported the iTunes library file (xml) and I could see the list of playlists but there were no songs in any of them! So I copied the all the music folders/files to the new iTunes folder (now the name is "iTunes Media", before it was "iTunes Music" even if the version of iTunes was exactly the same!). The main issue is that now I have lost almost all files artwork and there is nothing in the "iPhone Selection" playlist that I used to sync music from iTunes to my iPhone!
First problem now... if I want to sync the iPhone with my Yahoo account iTunes tells me that my iPhone was synced with another account (but in reality is the same Yahoo account) and wants to know if I want to merge the info on my iPhone with the info on "this" account (not sure if it means the "new" Yahoo account or the "old" one) or replace the data on my iPhone withe the info from "this" account (they should also get better in explaining things in English!).
Also if I want to sync my iPhone apps iTunes tells me that syncing apps will remove all my apps on my iPhone! Why?! In my old iTunes folder I had several sub-folders, including a folder called "Mobile applications", now in the newly installed iTunes I don't see it. Should I just copy the whole folder from my backup to the new iTunes folder? If I choose to "Transfer purchases" this is what I get!!!
Any ideas why this all happens? Any suggestion to make this restore simple would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

Select the ones you want again via the apps tab when your phone is plugged in.

  • Deleting from iTunes Library and Computer

I have alot of music in my library that I would also like to remove from my computer. I know that when you select a song and press the delete key that i prompt pops up asking you if you want to delete the song from your computer as well as your library...for some reason i think i may have clicked the "don't show me this again tab" and now when i delete a song from my library it only gets deleted from the library. If I want to delete it from my computer I have to go and search for the file in the folder where it is stored...this is a royal pain in the butt because sometimes music files aren't labeled conveniently. So my question is : Is there some way that I can turn that prompt back on so that I can delete songs from my computer and iTunes library alot easier and faster? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    HP Tablet PC   Windows XP

Do you keep your songs in the iTunes Music folder or do you use another folder of your own making? iTunes will delete songs from the library and move them to Trash only if they are in the iTunes Music folder. (iTunes will ask if you want to trash the file if this is the case, it doesn't trash it automatically). If your songs are kept outside of this folder then deleting only removes the reference to the song from the library and you have to go to the folder they are located in to trash the file itself.

I am trying to sync my iphone with a new itunes library.  The iphone is askin for an 'exchange' password.  I don't know what this is or where to find it.

Sounds like you do have an Exchange account setup on your phone. Have a Gmail or Hotmail account? They can both be setup as Exchange accounts. Have a work email account?

    Hello there, Savagejacob.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps for unexpected disconnects of your iOS device when syncing:
iOS: Troubleshooting USB-related alerts when syncing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5254
    Check connections
Try the following steps to check the connection between your device or computer. You might need to do only one of these steps to resolve the issue, so test your connection after each step.
See if the cable connection at the device or computer has come loose or unplugged.
Unplug the cable you're using to connect your iOS device from the USB port on your computer, and then reconnect it. Then unplug it from your iOS device, and reconnect it.
Remove any third-party battery packs or cases from the device and ensure that the USB cable is connected directly to the port on the device.
If your Lightning or 30-pin cable is connected to a keyboard, display or USB hub, try plugging it directly into a USB port on the computer instead.
Close any virtualization apps (such as Parallels or VMWare).
These apps may interfere with your computer's ability to communicate over USB if they aren't properly configured, or up to date. If this resolves the issue, contact the developer of the app to see if an update is available.
    Restart your computer.
Restart your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
If you're using an accessory or third-party cable to connect your device, try using an Apple cable with the device instead.
Update to the latest version of iTunes if you have not already.
Disconnect other USB devices from your computer, except for your keyboard and mouse. Then, reconnect your iOS device. If the issue is resolved, reconnect the other USB devices one at a time. Make sure your iOS device is still recognized by the computer after adding back each device.
If one of these steps resolves the issue, but it comes back later, make sure you haven't changed how the device is connected. For example, check to see if you plugged the device into a specific accessory, or used a specific cable that reintroduced the issue.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Help! Accidently deleted Itunes library and emptied trash.

I accidently deleted my Itunes library and emptied the trash. I do have Time Machine. Can I use that to restore it? I went into Time Machine and couldn't click on the "Music" folder where my Itunes library was stored, even on backups earlier than when I deleted it. Am I doomed? How can I restore my library?

Sure. Just open up Time Machine and choose a time frame when your library still existed. Find the file and click restore.

  • How do I delete the itunes library fully?

How do i delete the itunes library fully.  I want to delete the itunes library and rebuild it.
All my media is on a NAS and no matter what settings i use, Itunes wants to create a sub directroy in the main one i specifiy for media.  this sub directory is called music and it then seems to randomly split music information up with not seeming method.  I have removed the xml file, however, when i start itunes over it goes and does the exact same thing over.  My only guess is i am missing a hidden file.

  • I recently imported 2 cd's into my library, and then tried to import them onto my Ipod classic. would not do it. What Gives?

I recently imported 2 cd's to my Itunes library, and then tried to download them to my Ipod classic, and they would not download. In my library, but not on my Ipod. What gives?

This topic is also discussed in an conveniently archived discussion.  My opinion is anything downloaded and not purchased in the Apple iTunes store is not truly compatible with iTunes and/or iPod Classic - all of the potential space - unusable.  I am not holding my breath for an answer nor give a **** if they do respond.  No more Apple products for me, now I need to figure out how to transfer everything purchased onto another medium.

  • When trying to manually manage my music and videos on itunes its telling me that im already signed up to one itunes library and if i apply these setings it will replace my current itunes library. is this safe and would i be able too retrieve my deleted mu

when trying to manually manage my music and videos on itunes its telling me i am already connected to another itunes library and that if i apply these settings it will delete all of my data and replace it with the current itunes library. will this just delete from the i tunes library or from my i tunes account all together?

Thanks for your reply. I don't keep all of my music in the iTunes' designated music folder. I don't like the way iTunes reorganizes my songs and I keep all my music in my own self organized music folders as I don't use iTunes as my primary media application. Not to mention allot of my files come from all different corners of my computer's hard drive. It would literally take months to go through over 20 gigs of media files to pick out the songs I have in my iPhone library to rebuild an iTunes library. Like i said, I don't even use iTunes other than to transfer files to my iPhone. I thought the purpose of manually managing the files was so you don't have to sync it with the iTunes library but now it won't give my that option without requiring me to delete everything on my phone I worked so hard on.
What I don't understand is logically or technically why iTunes HAS to delete all the content off of my iphone. Who's decision in the Apple's software engineering department was to require the one's iPhone to be erased if someone loses their iTunes library? Its frustrating because it makes no sense and I feel as if the software is punishing me for reasons I don't understand by threatening to delete all my content off my phone. Is there absolutely no way to transfer my music to my iPhone without deleting everything currently on and completely rebuilding my music library from scratch?

  • Deleting a song from iTunes library and hard drive on Itunes 11.0

how do i delete a song from iTunes library and hard drive on Itunes 11.0 at the same time.

    Hello CleveCo, Inc
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
At some point in time, you may have selected the option to prevent that dialog from appearing again when trying to delete tracks from your library. To reset all of iTunes warning dialogs, click the Edit drop down menu and choose Preferences from the list (on a Mac it is *iTunes -> Preferences* ). When the window pops up, head over to the Advanced tab and click the *Reset Warnings* button. Then quit iTunes and relaunch it. That do the trick for you?

  • HT1364 I am trying to change the location of my itunes library and the library doesn't copy to the new location.

I am trying to change the location of my itunes library and the library doesn't copy to the new location.  I followed the steps in the help message (HT1364) exactly but I am not prompted to consolidate in the new location.  Any suggestions?

Hi ed2345 and diesel vdub,  when I consolidate, the files start copying to the new location and part way through I get a message that the copying failed (-50) even though all of the files are already in place in the new location.  Should I just delete the itunes in the new location and manually copy the files again?  But in itunes, I have indicated that the new location is on the external hard drive but itunes seems to ignore that and still looks for itunes in the original location on my internal hard drive.  I disabled the location of itunes in the old location (by labelling itunes as "itunes old") and it tried to create a new itunes at the old location and prompted me to import music and videos from a CD or other source.  I hope I am making sense.

  • How do I permanently delete music from iTunes library and iPhone?

I had some old music I didn't like anymore so I went to delete it but it still shows up in my iTunes library and my phone. I plug in my phone to my laptop and in iTunes, all of the apparently deleted songs are gray text instead of black and they all have a gray, dotted circle next to it and this is really bothering me because all I see is clutter. Same goes for my phone. When "Show All Music" is turned off, I don't see any of the deleted songs which is what I want but when it's turned on, they come back with the iCloud symbol next to it and I don't like that at all. I want ALL of my songs to be PERMANENTLY DELETED meaning that if "Show All Music" is turned on or off, I don't want to see the music in my phone or in my iTunes library.

    Hi Jessica,
I found an article how you could do that on iTunes: iTunes Store: How to delete songs from iCloud - Apple Support and another blog post on this issue: http://ios.wonderhowto.com/how-to/delete-phantom-icloud-songs-your-iphone-015457 5/
    Give it a try.
    With kind regards,
    David
