I deleted my mail application

I think I may have deleted my mail application. It would be nice if someone could help me. PLEAZ!?!?

First welcome to the discussions.
You can go to.

Find Thunderbird, it is the mail Application.
If you don't want to do that you can use Pacifist and use it to download just the mail Application from your Original Operating Systems Disc, if you prefer.
There are several different Mail Applications for Mac that are good.

How to Use Pacifist to Replace Deleted OS X Applications
Insert the OS X Installer DVD into the optical drive. Use a simple utility like TinkerTool to toggle invisibility so you can see invisible items. Alternatively, open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and at the prompt enter the following:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles Yes
    Press RETURN.
To turn off the display of invisible files repeat the above command substituting No for Yes.
The install packages are located in the /System/Installation/ folder on the DVD.
Download the shareware utility Pacifist from VersionTracker or MacUpdate. Use it to extract a fresh copy of the missing item(s) from the file archives on your OS X installation DVD. The file archives are in the /System/Installations/ folder (use Go to Folder option in the Go menu of the Finder.)
Here are Four Basic ways to use Pacifist (courtesy of George Orville.)
    A. Drag a .pkg icon onto the Pacifist window .....proceed to step 7.
    B. Click on “Open Package ....” and navigate to package desired and click “Open” in the open/save window.....proceed to step 7.
    C. Insert Mac OS X installer CD and when it mounts, navigate to .... Menu->Go->Go to Folder.
In the path field enter or paste ....
/Volumes/disc name/System/Installation/Packages (where disc name is the name of the CD/DVD that you inserted.
    • Click on the "Go" button .....
    • Drag a .pkg to Pacifist..... proceed to step 7.
The package you'll need will have to be discovered by trial and error, but for most applications you should start with the Essentials.pkg and/or Additional Essentials.pkg.
    D. Insert your Mac OS X install disk 1 .... and open Pacifist.
    1. In Pacifist, select "Open Mac OS X Install Packages" ... dialog may appear asking for disk 2, then disk 3 and finally disk 1 again.... {if DVD is not used)...If “Stop Loading” is selected...the procedure will stop!!!
2a. When loading is complete, a new window appears, click the triangle to display contents of each package...Select item and proceed to step 7.
2b. or click the “Find” icon in the Pacifist window and type the name of the software you need.
    3. In the list that comes back, click the top most entry for the item that you want. ..... that is the one for the English language.
    4. On the top of the Pacifist window, click “verify” .... you will probably be prompted for your password.
    5. Enter checks for.... “verify permissions” and “verify file contents.” and click “verify” ....enter password when prompted.... you will get back output which may look like this:
    20 files were scanned.
20 of 20 files were present on the hard disk.
0 of 20 files had file permissions that did not match those specified in the package.
0 of 20 files had checksums that did not match those specified in the package.
    6. Click “close”. Go to step 7.
    Extract or Install........
    7. In the Toolbar (upper left), you now have the option to extract or install. Click a file in the lower list and those two icons will be enabled.
    8. If “Extract to...” is selected.... navigate to the location where the file will be placed, select “choose”, select “extract” in new dialog that appears, authenicate , if prompted, click “OK”.
    9. In the next dialog, click “Extract”.
    10. If “Install” is selected... dialog will appear with the location/path of the installed software. Click “Install”
    11. Type in your password, click “OK”
    • Pacifist will begin to extract files.
    12. In steps 8/10ß.... you also have the choice to “cancel”
    Notes.....
    • Pacifist may find that a file it is installing already exists on the hard disk. Pacifist will present you with an alert panel....
    Stop
    Leave original alone
    Update ..... Default selection
Replace .... Replace option should only be used on full install packages

  • Deleted the mail application

I have accidently deleted my mail application, and cleared the trash. I've tried the Software install/restore disc that came with my Mac but to no avail... any suggestions?!

    You're welcome.
If your OS detail is accurate - 10.3.9 and your Panther install discs include an earlier version, after re-installing the Mail.app using Pacifist you need to download the 10.3.9 Combo Update and re-install 10.3.9 to get the Mail.app to the current version as of 10.3.9.
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxcombinedupdate1039.html
Why would you now have an old version of iTunes if you installed the Mail.app only from your Panther install package using Pacifist?
    Did you re-install iTunes also?
Not sure what you mean by "it will not let me download Itunes latest version".
    More info please.

  • Email deleted in Mail application reappears in Windows Live Mail account.

I use a @hotmail.com account and check my emails on the Mail application in my iPod touch.
I scan and delete those mails on the move.
However, to my dismay, the same mails are not deleted from the inbox when I access my @hotmail.com account via Windows Live Mail.
HELP! Why is there a problem with the sync! I do not have the luxury of spending so much time checking and deleting my emails!

Sorry, no answer here; but the same problem.
Only we're on a Mac with a Comcast internet mail provider.
If we use the 'Mail' software on the Mac, we have it set up to pull those emails (or delete them within a week) from the Comcast site.
However, using the 'Mail' software on the iPod Touch and retrieving and/or deleting them on the iPod doesn't delete messages from Comcast's website, no matter how long.
Same question - is there a way to setup the iPod to pull emails out of the provider's site? Who has time to delete emails twice through 2 different sources?
    Thanks in advance

  • HT1338 Deleted Mail Application

I have an Imac. I deleted my Mail application and have to go to my MacBook pro to get my emails. How can I add the Mail app to my Imac?

Sorry I haven't replied. I have been traveling. Before I left I tried several things. I will be home tomorrow night and will try some of the suggestions.
Mail was not in the applications folder. I had deleted it. I found my applications disk and installed the mail app. When I tried to open it it said that my current version of 10.6.8 could not open the mail folder.
I will try installing it again and try what Wzzz recommended updating the security settings tomorrow to see its that works. Thanks. Nelson.

  • Disabling the Mail Application?

I'm running 10.6.8 on an original 2006 Macbook Pro.  I've ALWAYS had a problem with my "Mail" application!!!  I NEVER use it!!!  I actually HATE it!!!
But I LOVE using the "Calendar" application.
My problem occurs when my turning on my computer and I get a "Calendar Alert".  I guess the Calendar is somehow linked to "Mail" and it tries to launch "Mail" EVERY SINGLE TIME I have a Calendar Alert!!!  It's soooo ANNOYING!!!!
The ONLY way to get "Mail" NOT to launch is by turning off the "alarms" or "alerts" for every single event in my Calendar.  It's horrible.  For example, I create a new event in my Calendar, save it, then go back into it and turn off the alarms.  After years of experience, this seems like the ONLY way to NOT get "Mail" to launch.
Therefore, I deleted the "Mail" application!!!  I could've sworn that this solved my problem, in the past.  But I recently wiped/restored my computer, and therefore, had to delete "Mail" all over again.
NOW, when I turn on my laptop and I have a Calendar alert, "Mail" still tries to launch and a window pops up trying to locate the "Mail" application.  I've attached a screenshot of the window.
Does anybody have any ideas for me???  Like I said, I've deleted the Mail app before and it seemed to not cause any problems.  But now I'm getting this terrible pop up window.
And like I also said, if I were to leave the Mail app on my computer, and God forbid, forget to turn off the alarms for a new event (which I like using the alarms sometimes), then the Mail app launches, and usually freezes because I don't have it linked to any of my email accounts!!!
This is just ALL AROUND TERRIBLE!!!!!!  PLEASE HELP ME!!!!  THANK YOU!!!!!!!  I HOPE THIS MADE SENSE!!!!!!!!!!

Your problem isn't Mail.app your problem is that you are using a script that expects Mail to be installed.
What is the script that is so important to the calendar events? If you can find the raw Applescript & edit out the references to Mail this nonsense should stop.
Are you trying to use the built in 'email alert' type of iCal alarm? I don't think that can ever work if you refuse to use Mail. I think you will need another Applescript to access your email client instead (or use a message alert type).
If you have a lot of alerts set to use email alerts it will be tough to find them & delete the action, I suppose you can export each calendar & then open the calendar.ICS file in a text editor. That should allow you to find the lines with the 'ACTION:EMAIL' line which need editing for that event.
I suspect sending invitations will also fail, so you will need to forget about that feature too.

Boot with your install disc, reinstall SL, and then run Software Update. Once up and running, you need to have a discussion with the GF about privacy and trust issues.

  • Wrong Mail application version

I accidentally deleted my mail application. I reinstalled the application using the disc that came with my Mac. When I tried to use the program I received this pop up message: "You cannot use this version of the application Mail with this version of Mac OS X." What can I do to fix the problem?

  • Missing Mail application

A previous employer of ours somehow deleted the mail application on our Macmini. I probably already know the answer to this, but in case I'm wrong, does anyone know of a way to attain the mail app. without the installation CD?

In Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), some of the applications included with the system can be reinstalled without using a third-party utility. You can reinstall Mail as described in the second part of the following article:
Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4
Note that Mail may appear grayed out in the installer, but will be checked if you check Applications there, and will be installed if Mail has been removed from the /Applications/ folder.
If the version of the system software on the Install discs is earlier than what you’re running now (and only in that case), then you must also reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re running, to bring Mail back in sync with the rest of the system:

Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update for PowerPC

  • Download mail application

I deleted my Mail application on my iMac because it wasn't working right. I thought I'd reinstall it. Where can I get a free download for it?

    Hi,
It is not available for download. You can use the Optional Install procedure with your Installation disk, and install only the Mail application. You will then immediately have to download and apply the Combo Update for 10.5.7 to bring the app up-to-date to match the rest of the OS -- this update is 727 MB, btw.

  • Accidental Delete of Mail.app

    Hi,
I accidentally deleted my Mail application. What do I do to recover or reinstall mail.app, without overriding the emails and setting saved in my system/library.
    PLEASE HELP.

I'm happy to report that you are safe so as long as you didn't touch or delete any of the preference files for Mail in the library or preferences folders.
What you're going to have to do though is find your original system restore discs (the grey ones that came with your computer at purchase) to reinstall Mail.
Apple Discussions board user, Cornelius, previously recommended this application called "Pacifist" in order to extract specific files from a restore/installation disc. You can use it to find the Mail.app and restore it onto your Mac.

Upon reinstallation and startup of the Mail application, it should automatically detect the old settings and e-mails and work right away.
Maybe you should back up your Mail preferences files before running the application for the first time, just in case it happens to reset things or override the old settings.

  • "Command-i" which was so useful in being able to selectively delete messages from the servers no longer works. Is their a replacement? Will it be fixed? Or should I change my mail application?

"Command-i" which was so useful for selectively deleting messages from servers has disappeared in  Maverick. I wonder if it has been replaced by something else or should I look into other mail applications.

Hmmm.  Which Mail program are you referring to?
in Mac Mail command -i used to bring up the Account info pane on the server  (10.8.5)
Now it seems you have to use the gear at the bottom in "Mail Activity" to get the drop down (10.9) :
