I deregistered my phone number from imessage but am still not receiving texts on my android phone

I went the the deregistration process. This improved the annoyance but is still not fully resolved. I still am not getting texts in certain group message settings. The problem seems to be in group texts where everyone else is using imessage except me.

Hello Laurie33,
This can be accomplished by deactivating iMessage.
To deregister your phone number, tap Settings > Messages and turn iMessage off.
If you can't deactivate iMessage after you perform the steps above or you can't access the iPhone, please contact Apple Support.

  • How can i remove my phone number from imessage and just use email address ?

    Hi all
I've searched all the forums and still can't find an answer for what i need (what i think i need!)
I have an iphone without a data plan so whenever anybody who is registered with imessage sends me a message i will not
receive it until i am back on wifi.
What i want to achieve is to be able to receive sms messages from imessage users when i am not on wifi and then imessages when i am back on wifi.
My assumption is that if i can unlink my mobile number from iMessage and only have it associated with my email address that this should work, but i cannot seem to remove my phone number from imessage, in the settings > iMessage > send and receive it will allow me to un-tick the associated email addresses but my phone number is greyed out and will not allow me to untick.
On my home Mac i can go into messages app and deselect the phone number but not on the iphone.
One solution says to deregister my phone on https://supportprofile.apple.com/ which i have tried (i can't see how that would work anyhow as there is no phone number in that registration)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
    thanks, Andy

Regardless if using your cell phone number or your Apple ID email address, iMessage requires an internet connection via an available wi-fi network or via your carrier's cellular network. Without a data plan and no internet access with your carrier's cellular network, an iMessage addressed to your email address can be received only when your iPhone is connected to an available wi-fi network no different when an iMessage is addressed to your cell phone number.
You cannot deselect or remove your cell phone number below you can be reached by iMessage at with iMessage on an activated iPhone. The iPhone's phone number is activated along with your Apple ID.

  • I deleted some of my text message histories to get rid of 'other' space (6.33 gb). They were gone from iMessage, but they still showed up in search, so they were still taking up space on my phone. I synced my iPhone (4s) but the messages are still there.

I deleted some of my text message histories to get rid of 'other' space (6.33 gb). They were gone from iMessage, but they still showed up in search, so they were still taking up space on my phone. I synced my iPhone (4s) with iTunes but the messages are still there. How can I get rid of these texts for good and have more space on my phone? 6.33 gb of other space is way too much, thats almost half of my overall available space (13.5 gb.) I don't want to reset my phone and lose all my other texts/ app progress/ photos. I do have backups, but when I restore from the backup the other space comes back along with everything else. What can I do to get rid of this other space and the 'deleted' text messages? (I'm running iOS 6.1.3 if that helps)

But once again, I do not want to lose my other texts, app progress, and photos. I could sync the photos but i would still lose the app progress and texts. I would only restore if it was the only option left, but the other space, as already stated, isnt the main concern. The main concern is those 'deleted' texts. If they go, then a good size chunk of the other space goes. I know you CAN delete texts for good. It worked fine before. All i want to know is why its not working for me now, and how to fix it.
I also know that when you delete texts on your iphone, they get marked for deletion, however they stay on your device (thats why they show up when you search for them.) then when you sync your device with itunes, the texts marked for deletion should disappear. When i synced they didnt disappear. Thats what i need an explanation/solution for. Why the texts marked for deletion didnt get fully deleted after the sync.

  • How do you disassociate a phone number from iMessage without disabling iMessage completely

Hi there. I will soon be selling my current iPhone for another phone and want to remove the association between the phone number and iMessage so my girlfriend will send SMS messages to my phone from her iPhone instead of iMessages. Is it as simple as turning iMessage off in iCloud settings or does it go a bit deeper than that? I have seen a few stories on the forums of iMessages still being sent to sold or broken phones and don't want this to happen to mine.
    Cheers in advance.

All you need to do is turn iMessage off in settings.  Also be sure to turn FaceTime off and delete your iCloud account in Settings>iCloud.    (Note: deleting the iCloud account only deletes it from the phone, not from iCloud.)
Be sure to create a new backup before selling it.  To be save, create a backup both in iCloud and on your computer using iTunes (by clicking on Back Up Now on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings).  Then erase the phone by going to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings, or restore it as a new iPhone.

  • I believe I have implemented it correctly but I am not receiving the notifications on my phone. I have an ad hoc provisioning profile set up.  I have the device token from the phone through NSLOG to console. I have the dot net code running without errors.

I believe I have implemented it correctly but I am not receiving the notifications on my phone. I have an ad hoc provisioning profile set up.  I have the device token from the phone through NSLOG to console. I have the dot net code running without errors. The notifications just don’t appear.
Any ideas where I am going wrong?

IMAP account access by itself does not provide for syncing contacts, calendar events, and notes or anything over the air. This is possible with an Exchange account accessed via ActiveSync with the Exchange Server.
If your company email account is an Exchange Account, your company's IT Dept. has enabled IMAP account access for your Exchange account on the Exchange server?
If an Exchange account, the IT Dept. must have ActiveSync enabled for your account on the Exchange Server to create and access the account as an Exchange account which provides Push access for received messages, and over the air syncing for contacts and calendar events with the Exchange Server.

  • How do I remove phone number from iMessage on one device only

Hi there, I recently upgraded my iphone 4 for an iphone 6 and we decide to let my niece have the old iphone 4 with our account set up so that she can have the apps that we have as well.  Now, I am able to deactivate iMessage but I don't want her to "accidentally" turn it on and I noticed that if she were to do it she could select my phone number and start receiving iMessages addressed to my phone number.  Is there a way to completely delete/remove my phone number only from that iphone?  Thanks for the help

    Hey there Eminent Czar,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The article linked below will walk you through the process of unlinking the phone number from your Apple ID on the iPhone 4, so that it doesn’t receive iMessages that were intended for your new iPhone 6.
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage - Apple Support
    Unlink a phone number
To remove a phone number from an Apple ID, sign out of FaceTime and Messages on your iPhone:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with FaceTime and Messages. If the phone number is still available on other devices after you sign out of FaceTime and iMessage on the iPhone, you may need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your devices, then sign in to FaceTime and Messages again on devices you want to use.
Note: If you no longer have access to the iPhone that is using the number you want to remove, reset your Apple ID password.
    Cheers,
    -Jason

  • How to remove my phone number from iMessage?

Hi. I recently gave up my iPhone to switch to a non-Apple device.  While I had the iPhone, my phone number was used for iMessage.
Now when my friends using iPhone try to send me a message, it automatically select iMessage as Apple recognises my mobile number as an iMessage number even though I don't have an iPhone anymore.  Is there any way to remove my phone number from Apple's iMessage database?

I have exactly the same problem. I ported my number to an Android phone, and kept my iphone to use as an Ipod touch. I have taken the sim card out, wiped the phone. put the sim card back in to restore and turned off imessage completely. Nothing works. Its like my phone number is stored on some Apple imessage server somewhere and any of my friends iphones automatically see my number as an iphone still and default to imessage. Then the messages they send are never received by anything. My only course of action is to ask them to turn their imessaging service off. It is deeply frustrating.
I also tried to check if it was registered but it apparently never was (I had bought a refurbished iphone from AT&T). If I login to my apple profile their are no products registered.
Apple needs to get this fixed pronto, because some of us are still customers even though we may have switched our phones. And I am not a very happy customer right now.

  • Removing phone number from iMessage

How do you do this so that contacts that use iPhones can send messages to me now that I no longer have an iPhone?

This is the documented solution that worked for me:
Note: If you no longer have access to the iPhone that is using the number you want to remove, reset your Apple IDpassword."

  • I bought unlock I phone 5 from canada but it is not working in india

I bought Unlock iPhone 5 from canada but it is not working in india

If it is an unlocked iPhone then it should work.  Have you inserted a local sim card?
Other than that and because the warranty is country specific, you'll have to get on a plane back to Canada and return the phone there.

  • Difficulty deactivating iMessages; 3 weeks later & still not receiving texts from iPhones

I recently switched to Android, and I didn't know to turn off my iMessages before. It's now been three weeks, and I'm still not receiving messages from iPhone. I went online & tried to deauthorize my past apple devices, and STILL no luck.
Any advice? I want to contact Apple, but it's absurdly expensive, apparently, if you don't have an Apple device (seriously? $19?). How long before I should start receiving iMessages if my phone has been deauthorized?

You should be able to contact Apple support to deactivate iMessage at no charge by going to the following link and then click "Other Apple ID Topics" and then "Messages and Apple ID"  https://getsupport.apple.com/Issues.action

  • Switched from iphone to galaxy - now not receiving texts from iphone users

Switched from iphone to galaxy for multiple reasons.  Still keeping my iPad and wanted to use my iphone for music.  Now I am not receiving texts, apparently imessages, from iphone users -  there is no notification either way that a message was not received.  So iphone users think I have received a text when I haven't.  This makes me angry with Apple as there have been medical issues in our family and I have not been receiving important communication.  I also have clients I have not received texts from.  My understanding is I will have to delete my iphone from my apple account completely, but then will not be able to use it at all for itunes or anything else.

If you still have the iPhone, go to Settings and turn off iMessage. If you don't have the phone or if that doesn't solve the problem, contact Apple Support and request that they deactivate iMessage. https://www.apple.com/support/appleid/contact/

  • TS5185 Not receiving texts to a new phone.

This requires quite a bit of background story so please bare with me. I recently bought a new Samsung Note 3 and it has been absolutely delightful. However, I've noticed that those people who I regularily text that have an iPhone I can no longer recieve text messages from. I found several threads on the Android website that addressed this issue. However the steps listed have not as yet fixed the problem. I've noticed it is only people with an iPhone that I cannot receive a text from, these messages go to my iPad and its iMessaging system. So I turned off iMessage, my  old phone and WiFi access to my old phone. None of these things worked. Farther down the thread someone said that for some reason reseting your Apple ID password seemed to work. Now here is my question:
    1) Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
    2) My Apple ID will not allow me to reset me password or the security questions and it will not send me the email no matter how many times I try. Is there a reason for this?

Having similar trouble. Just activated a Droid Maxx. Still getting iPhone texts only on old iPhone and iPad. Verizon told me to go to "settings" then go to "messages"and turn off "iMessage". I couldn't do it on phone. Was able to do it on iPad. But I'm still not getting texts from iPhones on my new droid
