I deselected ALL my songs with a command-click...

While working on my iTunes song list, I was command-clicking to select multiple songs and inadvertently command-clicked on the checkmark box that selects the song for downloading to my iPod (or not).
Shazam, in less than a second I had de-selected my entire song list from the download list.
I've got 7,000+ songs and I only want about 4,000 of them downloaded to my iPod so the checkboxes are an important part of my song management.
Is there an undo for this? Is there a way to get an "are you sure" confirmation?
I tried making a copy of my old iTunes playlist, but it had been updated within seconds of making the change.
It seems pretty easy to initiate a command with such serious effects.

This won't help fix the mess, but in future I might recommend using a playlist for the songs you want to transfer to your iPod. It's harder to accidentally delete a playlist, and you can tell your iPod only to sync certain playlists. That way you can leave all of your songs checked, and iTunes won't skip over them when playing at home.

  • I lost all my songs with iTunes mach after changing store

    hi,
i have two itunes accounts, one on the french store, my first one, and another on the US one.
i subscribed to itunes match with the french account, and when i went on the us one, i lost all my songs for three months!
i need my two accounts, i live between nyc and paris.
*** happens and how can it be fixed.
    thanks

That's what happens when you switch stores.  You need to stay with one account (at one store) otherwise you lose files that were synced with the other store.

  • I want to delete all the songs with broken links at once

I lost a file with a lot of songs on it and it can't be retrieved.  How can I delete all the song titles with broken links at once without having to delete 500 songs one at a time?

One way to identify the broken links in your library is to create this set of playlists:
    Lost & Found playlists
Create a playlist called Found, select everything in Music and drag it into the Found playlist. Create a smart playlist called Lost matching All the rules Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Found. Your lost tracks will be in this playlist. They can be deleted with CTRL+A then SHIFT+DELETE.
Or use iTunes Folder Watch and enable its option to check for dead tracks on startup.
If you have any Apple devices that could hold the lost media see this user tip.
Finally, while I'm handing out advice, see this backup tip to avoid this problem again.

  • My iTunes won't sync all my songs with my iPod

I'm using auto sync, just like I always have, and the box is checked to sync all songs with the iPod. If you check the bar at the bottom of the sync page, it *thinks* all 5000+ songs are on the iPod, and there's plenty of room left. But when you play one of the songs on the iPod, it says playing 1 of 800. Some of my songs are unchecked to not sync, but we're talking 100 max. So how do I get the missing 4,100 songs to copy??
The iPod is an iPod touch with iOS 5.1.1; Mac is using OS 10.9.1; iTunes version 11.1.3.

Have you tried performing a restore on the iPod?

  • Clear all dock items - with Terminal command

    Hi!
I need an command for clearing all dock items. I have good command line skill but couldnt find a way to just clear it all. Somebody have?
    Thanks.
(I know Server could help me do that but i belive server takes to much time to fully apply than just using small tools for wath my need is.)
Hmm. Found one way :-). Manually edit the prefs file on the user login.

    Thanks for the replies.
@ mende1 - I did hold cmd-R to reach the recovery partition. How do I now leave safe mode (if it is stuck in that) and boot normally?
@ Thomas - DU seems to be successful in repairing the disk. It doesn't report any errors - just says what it is "checking", "updating" and "adjusting" (not a very long list at all) - but it concludes with partition map appears to be OK.
My other Mac has all my files so I don't mind reinstalling on this one, except for the fact that I would have to reinstall all the applications and I don't have them with me where I am at the moment.
If I choose to reinstall when booted with cmd-r will it re-download or install from a local copy? Re-downloading will take forever because I only have mobile (3G) broadband here.
Do I have any other options?
    Thanks for helping.

  • HT1766 I want to put the songs from my MP3 onto my new phone but it just shows all my songs with an exclamation point. How do I convert my songs to work with my iTunes?

I want to put the songs from my mp3 onto my iPhone but everytime I go to do it it shows exclamation points next to my songs. How do I convert them to work with my iTunes and phone?

The "missing file" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then say no when asked to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. I can provide a step by step guide if you give me the two paths.
In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps and locate the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links. Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use myFindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

  • HT1417 i have about 1000 songs in my library and about another 300 with the ! to the left of the song AND a bunch of duplicates. How can i get rid of all the songs with the ! and my duplicates and totally organize my library at the same time without check

    everything in post

If the media is in the standard iTunes folder structure or something similar then I have a script called FindTracks that can often repair things. For more details on how it works see this thread.
For duplicates I have another script called DeDuper that cleans up, while preserving playlist membership, highest rating and merging play counts. Please heed the warning to backup first and review this background thread on what it does.

  • TS4124 Who to download all available songs in iTunes Match with one click

I Purchse iTuens Match. Whow do I download all available songs with only one click. I have more than 4000 songs and I do not want to click and wait for every song.

Unfortunately, there is no button to download all songs at once, but you could download a whole album at once. Therefor just open iTunes and choose the album view, then click on the little "iCloud" icon in the upper right corner of the album art.
    Edit: Winston's solution is better.

  • ITunes Match sometimes skips / plays songs with exclamation marks

Using iTunes Match (v10.5.3) from my MacBook (OS X 10.6.8) I synched about 60G of music located on an external hard drive connected to my home-based AirPort Extreme base station into Apple's cloud. It works great from my iPhone and the iMac in my remote office, but occasionally when I connect with my MacBook I get these confounding exclamation marks between the song list number and the selection check box.
When this happens and I attempt to play a song with an exclamation mark sometimes iTunes prompts me to connect to the hard drive connected to the Airport and when I don't the exlamation points appear. Other times I can play the songs, but only if I individually select them; otherwise it skips all the songs with exclamation marks until it finds a local song (or recording) (i.e. without an exclamation mark).
Sometimes restarting iTunes gets rid of the exclamation marks, sometimes it doesn't. I've noticed that I often have this problem when I upload new music to the Airport-connected hard drive. But sometimes it happens without me uploading.
Through trial and error I'm starting to get a sense of what's happening but it still feels kind of arbitrary. Can someone explain what's happening?
    Many thanks in advance.

The problem is that iTunes thinks the external HDD is not connected so it can't find the actual song files. So the problem you need to solve is why is the external HDD not connected.

  • Is there a way to mass delete any song with an exclamtion point next to it?

All of the sudden after resetting the sync history in iTunes (while trying to troubleshoot the fact that the upgraded OS4 was only syncing about 25% of my total music library), all of the sudden all of the tracks that it didn't sync (the other 75%) all have exclamation points next to them in iTunes, which for each song indicates "The song can not be used because the original file cannot be found".
Therefore, is there a way to mass delete all of these song names in iTunes? (then I can copy and paste the actual files into the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder and the path to the file should work? (THEORETICALLY OF COURSE)... and... What would cause such a random error? (So frustrating because iTunes can locate where the file is when I click the button "yes" to the question "Would you like to locate it?", but at the me time two seconds earlier it's telling me "The original file cannot be found". ????????????????????????????????????????????????
Truly RIDICULOUS apple. It's like DUDE, ***? Is this some kind of strange gliche with the new piece of crap OS4 (which I don't even need because I didn't get one of the "four" iPhone 4's that were released)?

Therefore, is there a way to mass delete all of these song names in iTunes?
Yes, you can simply highlight all the songs with the exclamation point at once and then RIGHT CLICK and choose DELETE. This will remove them from the iTunes list all at once.

    Yes
What would cause such a random error?
Either the patch was disconnected somehow during the upgrade OR user changed the music's location (which in this case you did not).

  • I'm getting exclaimation points on all my songs "This song could not be use because the original file could not be found."?

I'm etting an exclaimation after every song on my music library"this song could not be used because the original file could not be found"?

If all these songs with exclamation are within the same folder, you can do a one time fix:
Double click a song with ! mark on side, you will be given an option to locate the file where the song is held. Select "locate" and direct it to the folder / file where the song is and open it.
iTunes then will give you the option to use this process to update all of your library. OK that as this will do it automatically instead of doing them one by one.

  • Songs with Lyrics being skipped

Hello, I have about 100 songs randomly in my iTunes list that have added lyrics to them, and although they play fine on my computer, when I try to play them on my iPod (60gb video) they skip about 90% of the time. I don't view lyrics really, but it's annoying when I want to hear a song and it won't allow me to. • How do I get all the songs from an album to show in the album view?  Currently, if an album lists the artist plus a guest artist, those are shown separately and appear to be two different albums on my iPod.  How do I get all the songs on that album togeth

How do I get all the songs from an album to show in the album view?  Currently, if an album lists the artist plus a guest artist, those are shown separately and appear to be two different albums on my iPod.  How do I get all the songs on that album together on my iPod?  If the album is a collaboration wtih many artists, each sond may appear as a separate album.

I used to have this problem.
First, you need to go back on iTunes
you need to go to each of the songs that are having this problem
Click the album so all the songs drop down
Right click the songs that have this problem
    Click ' Get info '
Click the tab that says " info '
The box that says ' album artist ' should probably be empty (correct me if I'm wrong)
Click it and type the artist of the entire album, NOT the songs guest artist
    as such,
    ARTIST
    JAY-Z Feat. Justin Timberlake
    ALBUM ARTIST
    JAY-Z
These should be separate for each artist
If you write the same album artists for each song by that artist, all the songs should be on 1 album
