I desperately need a Windows based software on my Mac Air...

I have a Windows based program that I NEED and would like put on my MacBook Air, but how do I do that?  Someone out there please help!
Very gratefully yours,
Me.

First, you will need a full version copy of Windows 7. Then you have a couple of choices as to how to install Windows. Apple supports a scheme called "Bootcamp", where on your main drive a separate partition is created, and applicable hardware drivers are provided to run Windows separately from the Mac OS, when desired.
Alternatively, you can install Windows using what is called a "Virtual Machine" system setup. A stand-alone Mac App creates an artificial environment for Windows to be run on and simultaneous to the Mac OS.
There are advantages and disadvantages to either choice. The Bootcamp method generally affords a faster Windows experience, when the programs you will be running require all your resources. The VM solution is more convenient and gives some desirable interaction with the Mac OS, and lets you run both simultaneously. The VM solution shares resources and is therefore sometimes a problem if your Windows programs need more than is available.
The Bootcamp solution is free, inasmuch as it is built in already, but only supports Windows 7. The VM solution will cost the price of the VM App (VMWare Fusion or Parallels). There are free VM apps, but you kinda get what you pay for (ease, support, etc). VM apps also tend to support many different versions of Windows.
No matter what though, you will need to own a full copy of MS Windows.

  • What is the best way to run a Windows based software on  a Mac?  Paralles Desktop 10 for Mac or Bootcamp?

I am comparing Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac to Bootcamp.  The difference I see is a seamless operation with Parallels and the need to restart the Mac with Bootcamp.  Previously, I used VMware View Client to use the software from a virtual desktop.  Now I am looking to just use the Mac and trying to find the most efficient system.

    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Using Windows based software on a MAC: Parallel Desktop or Boot Camp

Why would a third party propriety Database Base (Royalty Data Vault, by Orlando Products.com) work in the Windows OS on a MAC using Boot Camp, but not be able to OPEN in a Windows VM using Parallel Desktop?
MacPro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Parallel Desktop vs BootCamp

So you said that it works on bootcamp but not on Parralels. This is because Boot camp works directly through your apple hardware, whereas parallels works through an Emulation environment. The company that produced Paralells si coming out with a new Version of Parallels that is in a BETA version currently. It will actually let you Run Parralells from your Bootcamp Partition, without installing the OS twice. It is also supposed to fix some minor bugs, and supply it with a little more compatibility.
But you have to remember that BootCamp is still a BETA software, and that Parallels doesn't take advantage of your mac's hardware directly, so currently you could be having problems on both. I would buy both programs when each are fully UN-Beta this spring.
As for getting your problem solved now, you can't be promised anything, simply becaus of the above reasons. But good luck. And so you know you can install the BETA version of Parallels if you want to try it and see how it works.
    Hope this helped.

Assuming you already have it installed: Go to system preferences and chose 'start up disc' in the system menu. Then select the Windoze partition and restart it. - To get back to OSX, find the Boot Camp icon in the tool bar bottom right.

You must first buy Snow Leopard from Apple: 800-MY-APPLE (in the US)
Make sure your system meets Snow Leopard's requirements:
Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" System Requirements
To install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:
    An Intel processor
An internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD Sharing
At least 1 GB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended)
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
At least 5 GB of disk space available, or 7 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
I do not recommend you to download the Windows support software through Boot Camp Assistant.
Instead, you can download the Windows support software for most Macs from the Apple website. Go to this website, look for your MacBook Pro model and the Windows version you want to install, and follow its steps.

  • Installing software on my Mac Air & MBP - installer wont load

    Hi all
I am hoping some one is technically savvy enough to help me trouble shoot this problem. I recently purchased a new digital camera and am trying to install the software disc that came with the camera. I unfortunately need to install the software disc so that it loads the necessary files for me to process the raw digital files that came out of the camera so using things like iphoto etc is no good for me.
The issue I have is when I double click the installer it momentarily flashes up and then disappears???? I cannot figure out WHY?? So I have tried to trouble shoot as best as possible. Here is what I have done and results to date.
    1. Tried to Install this on my MacBook Pro. Installer flashes up momentarily and disappears?
    2. Tried to install this on my Mac Air also running OS X Snow Leopard. Same issue?? So far conclude its not machine related
    3. Downloaded another install disc off the internet and tried to run that version. Same ISSUE. So its not issues related to my CD.
    4. Stripped out previous versions of the software on my MAC Air to ensure its not causing issues. Same problem
    5. Checked online forums and other uses and purchasers of the digital camera ARE able to install the software on their macs!!!
    6. Uninstalled every single APP that I have installed on my MAC air and tried to get it back to stock. Try again. Still fail????????
    7. Updated the OS X software to ensure everything is up to date.
    8. Grabbed the OLD version of the software disc that came with my previous digital camera (same brand) and installed that CD (version 23 - for those familiar with Canon DSLR). that loads up correctly and allows me to install. Version 25 the latest that comes with my new Canon DSLR doesnt load up.
I am stuck !!! I cannot pin point the issue. I dont understand OS X enough to debugg or log what the potential issue is.
I started up the Activity Monitor and watched closely in the my Process specifically for the process that I start up (SetUp)
I noticed that the Setup process name registers. Then another process starts up UniversalInstaller then both of them disappears?????????? and nothing happens in my comp!!!!!
Is there some way for me to debug this ?? look at log file?? enable error logging or has ANY one got any idea what may be the issue???
I've essentially bought a VERY VERY expensive DLSR and I cannot edit my raw files because I cannot install the software!!
    HELP ME Please

Downloading as we speak, and the first explanation that comes to mind is that both files have a .rar extension, and that since OS X doesn't support this archive format, you need to install a third-party utility to open them.
One files tool to open .rar files is The Unarchiver (here), and another is Stuffit Expander (there). 7zip also proposes a Mac version (here). All three will decompress a .rar file, and let you access the .dmg file(s) inside.
Also, depending on the browser you're using, and provided you might be inclined to open trusted files directly (I use Opera, and seldom save safe download; I click on "Open" in the download dialogue), your files could very well open... in the browser cache folder, out of sight. But if you use Safari, Chrome or Firefox, and you don't have any utility installed to handle .rar files, that's doubtful. I'm going to open your files now, and check if I can install them.
    Stay tuned!
Edit: decompressing the first file using The Unarchiver shows that the archive is "incomplete". Which leads me to think that you might have to concatenate the two files to make one "complete" .dmg file.
If so, once they are decompressed, open a Terminal (in Applications/Utility), then type "cat", and drag both files in the window, one after the other (preferably in the right order...), type a space, then give the final file any name you want, followed by the .dmg file extension:
    (e.g.:) "cat /Users/Your_Name/Desktop/File1.dmg /Users/Your_Name/File2.dmg /Users/Your_Name/Desktop/FinalFile.dmg"

  • Do I need a USB superdrive for my new Mac Air?

Do I need a USB superdrive for my new Mac Air if I already have an iMac OS X 10.5 which has a DVD slot?

If you have another PC or Mac with a DVD drive, you can use it for your MacBook Air with Remote Disc > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5287?viewlocale=en_US
This solution works for some tasks, but not for others, so the best way is to buy an external optical drive for your Mac

  • Installaing existing windows based software

    HI
I have just purchased a new mac book pro. I am slowly coming to terms with the different operating system. I have Adobe cs3 design on my existing windows office pc. I would like to have this on my mac if possible. Is there a way I can convert an iso file so that it launches on a mac and what file type will it need to be converted to?

You can convert the ISOs to DMG files quite easily, but there's more to it to be able to run PC software on a Mac. You need to install XP either using BootCamp (from Apple), or Parallels or VMWare (third-party products). BootCamp is free, the others cost money, but they have the advantage of allowing you to run PC and Mac software at the same time, whereas BootCamp requires you to reboot to run XP.
(You may also be able to get Photoshop to run under WINE, but I wouldn't count on it.)

  • Running Windows based software

More questions from a Mac rookie.
I just switched to a MacBook yesterday from a PC and I have one piece of software that I really need but the company does not support Mac. I've been told about VW Fusion and Windows Parallel.
Do I have to purchase and load Windows OS to run this?

If you still have your old computer and don't use it anymore, you can just take the serial number for your copy of Windows from that machine, and install Windows on Mac with Parallels or Fusion and then you don't have to buy a copy of windows.
Fusion and Parallels do not come with a copy of Windows, they just allow the means to run Mac and Windows simultaneously, however, you can always just use boot camp(Mac's ability to have Windows run in a separate partition on a Mac computer) if you don't mind running them separately. (i.e. Use Windows when you need to work, and use Mac when you're at home and don't need that Windows work program)
If you don't have a copy of Windows for either Bootcamp or Parallels, you're going to have to buy one, or cough*"find"*cough a serial number.

  • I need free network analyzer software for my mac. we are trying to monitor what software may be running which is causing our internet to fail, although the internet is still coming into our modem.what is recommended?

My internet keeps 'tripping' at or around the same period time each day.  We have already replaced our modem from our internet provider and we bought a new airport extreme router. We do not believe these were the cause, although we have now ruled them out as a cause.  Everytime the internet fails, our internet provider company tells us that there is still plenty of signal coming into our house. There is something going on inside we believe, and a technician set up our Network Utility to run a continuous ping test to capture information about when it 'trips' againn.  Yesterday, it happened again, and when he checked the data out, he said he is sure there is something 'running in the background' on my IMac.  He advised me to download a free Network Analyzer so he could further investigate what is was that was causing the problem, so I need a free network analyzer software for my Mac. The issue has been going on for a long time, so it is not the new operating system, Lion. This morning, we changed the radio channel from 'auto' to 'manual' and set a new channel, hoping that might help. We are trying to find out what program may be running (even a tiny one in the background) which is causing our internet to fail, although the internet is still coming into our modem. What is free downloadable product is recommended?

Will Activity Monitor and/or Network Utility, both already in the Utilities folder on your Mac, help in trying to diagnose the problem.
If you are connecting via wifi what encryption are you using? If you're using the Exteme I doubt that you are using WEP, but worth checking as it seems Macs don't like it and work better using WPA.

  • NEED WINDOWS PROGRAM TO LOAD ON MAC AIR

HI, I HAVE A NEW MAC AIR AND I HAVE REAL ESTATE MLS PROGRAMS THAT I NEED TO LOAD BUT THEY ARE WINDOWS. I DOWNLOADED CROSSOVER, PARALLELS, INTERNET EXPLORER VERSION 5 & 8 AND I STILL CAN'T GET THIS TO LOAD. I HAVE BEEN ON THE PHONE FOR 3 DAYS OFF AND ON PROBABLY 15 HOURS AND COUNTING. SO FRUSTRATED. I HAVE TILL THE 12TH AND THEN I WILL HAVE TO RETURN IT AND GET CHARGED 10% AS PENANCE. HOW DO I ACTUALLY GET IE TO LOAD ON CROSSOVER OR PARALLELS? THE APPLE GUY SAID IT JUST FINDS IT? NOT ON MY COMPUTER - IT HIDES FROM IT. SOME SAID I HAD TO HAVE AN OPTICAL CD/DVD DRIVER TO LOAD WINDOWS SO I BOUGHT ONE BUT THEN ANOTHER "GENIUS" SAID NO, DON'T LOAD WINDOWS WHATEVER YOU DO IT WILL TAKE UP ROOM AND YOU DON'T NEED IT. ANYWAY, I AM SO FRUSTRATED. I AM GOING ON VACATION AND NEED TO BE ABLE TO USE THIS MLS LISTINGS PROGRAM WHILE I AM AWAY. CAN ANYONE HELP?

For starters, please don't type in ALL CAPS. It's hard to read and gives us the impression that you're shouting at us.
Since this is not a Mac issue, for support with running IE through Crossover, I suggest you contact Codeweavers support or post your question on the Codeweavers forums:
    http://www.codeweavers.com/support/forums/
Parallels requires an installation of Windows to work, otherwise it's useless to you. You just install Windows, then open up IE and you're done. For instructions on installing Windows through Parallels, consult the Parallels User Guide that was installed in the Parallels folder. For support with Parallels, post your question on the Parallels forums: http://forums.parallels.com
