I do a lot ofhow much RAM does ps cs5/6 ext use with CAF?

how much RAM does photoshop cs5 extended use with Content-Aware-Fill?
please state the size of the image, how many layers you have (makes a difference).
please do this for 2 different size images.
I could also use some cs6 numbers as well, since this is the current ps.
should be as simple a psd as possible.
I need to know for a 32-bit and a 64-bit machine.
I would like to use these two numbers for making a calculator that does some very basic calculations as to how much memory would be required to run photoshop given:
image size
content-aware fill
radial blur
number of layers
content-aware move (in CS6)
this means several types  of test plans:
32-bit ps ext CS5:
different image sizes SMALL and LARGE (these sizes will be used throughout the tests below, save them as PSD's)
SMALL and LARGE with 2 layers
SMALL and LARGE with content-aware fill, like taking out a telephone pole. hit F1 if you don't know how.
SMALL and LARGE with radial blur (this takes a while to run). hit F1 if you don't know how or refer to this: http://ksimonian.com/Blog/2010/02/24/improved-photoshop-benchmark-cpu-speed-test-for-both- mac-pc-free-radial-blur-filter-test/

if you know of a more memory-intensive operation, such as radial blur (maybe that's only cpu-intensive), I would be interested in knowing about this.

the number of layers seem to multiply the RAM required in CS5. I think.  the amount of RAM required to do photoshop seems to be a much-talked about subject and the subject of much variableness, and I wanted to nail it down a little.
I thought I would make a calculator that can estimate the amount of RAM required for a system to do, say, multilayer gigapixel content-aware-fill stuff in ps, something I know I would do a lot of. I also hear RAM requirements has changed in CS6. it would be interesting to characterize it.
I am making it here: http://Jesusnjim.com/calculators/photoshop-ram-usage.html
and as soon as I can get some completed set of numbers infor CS5 or , it will be ready
you can tell how much memory us in use by doing [windows-logo-flag-key]taskmgr[Enter] or doing ctrl-alt-del and bringing up the task manager,
clicking on the prcesses tab,and looking for Photoshop.exe
if you don't see mem usage, do View,Select columns.
it's a lot of testing, I know, it should not take too long to finish. but I think it might help a lot of folks when they are trying to figure out how to spec their PS box.

the numbers basically would form a linear graph in memory usage when it comes to things like
number of layers
image size
I am not throwing away my data because someone is poo-pooing it.
CAF is just an 11x multiplier in every case I have used it. I am curious what the cs6 new content-[fill-in-the-blank] features use for memory. and I probably can't get anyone else to test it for me, because nobody seems to know how that I have met on the forums except me (I have been doing testing for 27 years and design/development for as long as I can remember - am I getting that old?).
the numbers in these cases are linear, for initial operations (I should qualify that on the page). as you said (according to my numbers), subsequent ops cause increased memory usage. I see this in soundbooth, to the point of out of memory error and crash.
I didn't do graphs because I didn't think it was worth it. I have proved my point to myself.
I think looking back I should have expressed more of what I found (and you guys have just stated it). page editing takes a lot of thought. I guess I missed that 1 necessary thing I noticed and didn't pay enough attention to - ps RAM usage growth from ops doesn't quit until you close it.
found out ps ram usage is not a compendium of all the features (maybe the major ones). the filters use pretty much no noticeable RAM.
adjustments don't either I don't think (haven't tested that).
I just want to help others who are trying to size a new box and don't know how much RAM to get if they are doing a 40x27 poster. and which type of machine: a desktop, laptop, or workstation (which can handle more memory). and which OS (windows 8 handles 512GiB max, windows 7 handles 192GiB max, windows server standard handles multi-terabytes of RAM). why? because I have to size one for myself! and I have some large images I will be working with.
Memory Limits for Windows Releases (Windows)
very few people know about this memory limitation on windows, but it's keenly felt when someone is buying a workstation. microsoft publishes the memory limits on its software for issues like this.

  • OK, So How Much RAM Does Photoshop CS5 Use?

ANSWER: All you give it, lol!
I posted this for those buying or building a PC and are deciding "how much RAM do I need?"
I built a fairly powerful rig for Photoshop and editing in Premiere Pro, and without all the tech specs, I have 24GB of ram, mostly for encoding HiDef video. Surely Photoshop wouldn't eat THAT much, right? Dead wrong. I have Photoshop set to utilize 75% of my available ram which would be near 19GB. I just worked on a fairly large image, where I took 23 vertical shots with my 5D Mark II (5616x3744 resolution files, pretty big) and did a large photomerge which ended up at about 60,000 x 5,500 after the crop. Granted, large image, nearly 3½GB .PSB file. So while the merging and aligning was taking place, I watched my Ram Gadget soar, right up to 19GB within 4 minutes of processing:
Yowza. I expected that from Media Encoder processing 1080p HD video into a Blu-Ray disc format, but not a Photoshop file. So, the point of all this: ram is lower in cost than it's been in many months, a 12GB Mushkin kit (3x4GB) is down to $169 on Newegg. Don't skimp in that arena, fill 'er up as best as you can. Future versions aren't going to use less ram, let's face it, the software has to process a lot of pixels! Try to go a minimum of 6GB, but definitely 8-12GB if you can. Of course this means bye-bye FINALLY to 32-bit operating systems, but once you have a large playground of memory, you and Photoshop will be happy campers.

I purposely waited to respond so I wouldn't write things I'd regret later:
    "Nice system."
Huh? I didn't list my system on purpose. The point wasn't showing off gear, it was PS's use of RAM.
"With regard to RAM and Photoshop, people often say more is better without qualification, and you have just confirmed that advice."
You actually have no evidence of my qualifications. I'll send you a link to my Microsoft transcript if you'd like, there are 16 certifications you can peruse.
"Personally, with 24 GB of RAM I'd suggest settting Photoshop's limit even higher - e.g., to 95% (which is what I use for 8 GB) ...  The OS doesn't need much on that scale."
24GB x 95% = 22.,8GB... that leaves 1.2GB of RAM for everything else including Windows 7 64 bit. I'm sorry, that's an extremely unwise choice. Noel, maybe you need to remove the "unqualified" beam from your own eye before you point it out in others.
If anyone is reading this please PLEASE don't set your Photoshop limit to 95% of your available ram. Your system will mostly likely crash within minutes of starting Photoshop. The proven setting is 75%, set it there and move on. Thanks.

  • How Much Ram does AME CS5 use for an average HD Encode?

    Hello,
I know this is a tough question but I would like to learn what factors control or limit the performance of AME CS5.
I have 12GB of ram in my Windows 7 64bit system but AME CS5 will only use 3 GB when encoding and HD file to say Mpeg-2.
Is 3GB all it needs?  Would more ram do anything to speed up the encoding?
I know that encoding is largely a CPU intensive task but after experimenting with RAID 0, I discovered disc read speed makes a large difference in the encoding time. So I would like to know if ram plays any part in encoding time?
    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply.

  • How much ram does the iPhone 6 Plus have?

How much ram does the iPhone 6 Plus have?

This is what I got on the info....
IPhone’s RAM has been very little, even pitiful compared to other flagships. Now 1GB RAM is still the standard configuration for the current iPhone 5 / 5s and iPhone 6.
Is Apple’s system optimization can really never need to increase the memory capacity? Obviously the answer is no. Recently, GSMArena published a sheet of iPhone 6 Plus detailed specifications, we can clearly see the “2GB RAM” in the memory list.
GSMArena also posted the benchmark score for iPhone 6 yesterday, but we seen that A8 GPU not seem to improve a lot in the processing capability compared to A7 – only increased 4.65%.
Apple usually not declare the detailed hardware parameters of their products, because those indicators not have too many advantages compared to other similar products, and even looks a bit shabby. But for Apple, these are not the most important, the company always focusing on the overall performance and user experience of the product. iPhone 6 Plus is the largest ever. Apple has said the iPhone 6 Plus screen reached 1080P in the event, as a larger screen means more resource consumption, and the processor needs to handle higher pixel image, so increasing RAM is the best choice to enhance stability and performance.
So based on the above evidence and our speculate, iPhone 6 is indeed possible with 2GB RAM. If in doubt, all we could wait is finding out the truth after dismantling the device. Course this just may be a beginning, we also expect Apple can give more memory for the upcoming next-generation iPad and iPad Mini.

  • How much ram does your lightroom consume ?

    Hi
how much ram does your lightroom consume ?
to me 160mb but I have seen it up over 230mb while doing work
does abode plain to increase the cache like Bibble , Phase one or SILKYPIX Developer to be more light??

Currently sitting at about 1.8GB (real) 2.5GB (virtual), but then it's working rather than idle. At idle it drops to around 15MB (real) and 270MB (virtual).

  • How does one transfer CS5 actions for use with CS6?

CS6 installation, which was uneventful, has transferred none of my actions from my copy of CS5. The CS5 actions are located in the actions folder of the APPLICATION/PHOTOSHOP CS5/PRESETS/ACTIONS.  The "actions" folder in application support/adobe in my library is empty, and has always been so.
Only the CS6 default actions are located in the same folder for CS6.
    I use imac i7, lion.
Note that i also have CS3 and CS4 on my machine. This due to recent upgrade to CS5 and recent upgrade to LION, and my general paranoia.
Must i load each action into CS6, one at a time?
    thanks to any and all.
    vince

Re: how does one transfer CS5 actions for use with CS6?
On a Mac - There are multiple ways to do this.  I have done them both ways. In order to do this you need to know where you have your actions stored, and you can move them all at once if you have them stored in the same location.
    1. You can load an action ONE AT TIME into your actions palette by:
         A. Open up the action palette and click on the little arrow with 4 little horizontal lines next to it on the upper right corner of the actions palette.
         B. Select "Load Actions" and a Finder window will open up and you can search your computer through this window for your actions.
         C. Click on the action from the Finder window then click 'Open' at the bottom right of the finder window.
         D. To save these so that they appear every time you open up your actions palette, go back to the little arrow at the top right of the actions palette and when the drop down window opens- click on 'Save Actions'. It will select the location where the          actions are currently stored as the place to save them. If you want to change that path, you can do it at this time in the little path window.  I just leave it, since I keep all my actions stored in the same file.
    2. TO MOVE MULTIPLE ACTION SETS AT ONCE
         A. Open up CS6 (or CS5) and move the Photoshop workspace it to the right side of your computer screen so you can see your desktop on the left side.
         B. Open up your Finder search window from your dock (the square blue head icon thingy for those who are new to photoshop). Move this to the left side of your screen so you can see the Photoshop work space on the right and the Finder window          on the left. In the Finder window, navigate to the file where all your actions are stored, select all the actions in the file (command+A will select everything in the file if you are actively inside the open file) or you can select multiple files           individually by continuously holding down the command key and clicking on the different actions you want to move.
         C. With the Photoshop workspace visible on the right, and the actions palette open so you can see that the actions actually transferred - In the Finder window, click the selected actions you want to load and drag them over to the Photoshop           workspace.  I did this without an image open, I just dragged them onto the empty workspace.  The actions should all appear immediately in the actions palette that is open.
         D. To save these so that they appear every time you open up your actions palette, go back to the little arrow at the top right of the actions palette and when the drop down window opens click on 'Save Actions'. It will select the location where the           actions are stored as the place to save them. If you want to change that path, you can do it at this time in the little path window.  I just leave it, since I keep all my actions stored in the same file.
    I hope this helps.
and I hope there are no typos.

  • How much ram does my macbook pro have?

How can I tell how much ram memory my mac book pro originally came with? I now only have 2 gbs left and am running out of space with all my photos, aps, videos and music. I don't want to keep moving things on and off the computer with an external hard drive. Is there a way to get more ram? My ipad has 64gbs and holds everything - but apparently my computer doesn't.

Time Machine backup disks should be external ... separate from the computer.
Several places sell external disks that are already formatted for Mac.  Others tell you that external disks not formatted for Mac can be reforatted, but save yourself the grief for now and buy Mac-ready.
Buy a *new* disk, in my opinion.  Do not reuse an old disk.
Some can suggest certain brand names as "better", but even the best disk-brand will have bad apples in the mix.
If any others have a convenient link for Time Machine Tutorial, please provide.  I have learned enough alreay, generally through trial and error on my own.
But focus on getting that first backup done within the next 2 days.
As to "probably need a new HD", perhaps you can move enough off to an external disk.  Cross that bridge after you get the backup.
If you get the sense that critical things are done first and that you should save yourself complex things like "how to replace a harddisk" for later, you are reading my posts correctly.

  • How much RAM does verizon internet have dedicated?

Using GT704WG hard wired to Gateway 3 Ghz 2048 MB DDR2. I-MAC wireless in another room. Verizon is ISP. I have 1300 MB free RAM after I log on. Less as I surf. (win xp sp 3).
I wouldn't normally think of Ram as an issue when they only used, to put 512 mb in these things and they ran alot faster.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

How much RAM you are utilizing has nothing to do with your ISP. It has to do with your computer and the software you have running. If your browser is using too much memory, then you need to troubleshoot your browser.

  • How much RAM does the iPad OS take up

If I buy an iPad, how much RAM is used by the OS, or how much RAM do I have to use?

Are you actually asking about RAM, or do you actually mean "storage capacity"?

  • How much RAM does FCP 6 recognize?

    Hello,
We have a 2 x 3GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro with 4 gig's of DDR2 FB DIMM ram. I've noticed that when I adjusted the setting in FCP 6 it wouldn't use more then 2 gigs of ram. I thought it could use up to 4 gigs or ram. Am I wrong or is there something else going wrong with our Mac Pro?
    Thanks!

Nothing is going wrong with your MacPro!
FCP is behaving perfectly fine with the amount of RAM used, that's what FCP normally needs at the most. Try Motion and then you'll see that 4GB of RAM might not even be enough to render in decent time in your machine! (It depends on the complexity of the project).

  • How much memory does SQL Server 2008R2 Standard use on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit?

    Hi,
can anyone tell me how much RAM will really be used by SQL Server?
72 GB are currently installed. As Windows is only able to use 32 GB is SQL Server able to use the other 40GB + the unused part of the first 32 GB?
    Thank you very much!
    BR Matthias

    Sorry, I don´t understand your post ?!
Maybe the question is if SQL Server is able to allocate more memory than the installed Windows Version is able to?
Since your OS is Windows Standard edition(X64) it cannot use or a process running cannot use more than 32 G of memory.
Now SQL server can use as much memory possible but it is now limited by Windows as your OS can only see 32 G.So it would be good part from your side to go to sp_configure and set 25 G for SQL server and can leave rest for OS( it just a figure not a actual
value i have given, actual you have to calculate by yourself or refer to below link) .
    http://mssqlwiki.com/2013/04/22/max-server-memory-do-i-need-to-configure/
As Andrew said after 32 G what ever memory you put it is waste.
    Hope this helps
