I do I make all fonts from Windows/Fonts available to CS5 ?

It used to be that I very rarely used fonts within CS5 but recently I have. I realized that all of the fonts supposedly included with CS5 are not available via my drop down menu.
I then found these fonts in Windows/fonts so I copied all of those fonts into Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Fonts. These unavailble fonts are now listed in that folder but are still not available via the dropdown menu in PS CS5.
I've recently read that the fonts don't really even NEED to be in the Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Fonts folder and that PS should actually make all of the fonts in Windows/Fonts available via the dropdown menu. Yes, I have restarted PS after copying the files and also tried rebooting my PC after copying the files. The fonts are still not available via the drop down text menu within PS even though all of them are now in both locations.
Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks!

Sometimes the font names are shown with slightly different names in windows, depending on the program.
For example, in photoshop cs5 if you scroll the font list almost to the bottom, do you see a font named Kozuka Gothic Pr6N
I believe that is the same as the KozGoPr6N font(s) listed in the windows font folder.
The different font styles (Bold, Heavy, Light etc.) are listed under the font styles drop-down just to the right of the font list in the tool options bar.
I believe the font menu in photoshop cs5 sorts/shows the fonts by script.
This script might make it easier to indentify the fonts as shown in photoshop with the names shown in the windows fonts folder.

Yes, that's exactly what happened. If you buy another drive, you could copy from your existing drive to the new and your files will be read/write. The new drive will have to be formatted as an HFS drive (that's the Mac's format). If you need to format it, you use Disk Utility which is in the Utilities folder on your Mac. Be careful with that -- it wipes out whatever is currently on the drive. Make sure you format the right drive.
I keep all my images on an external drive, too. In fact, I have two matching drives and sync them so I always have a backup.

Make all open finder windows come to the front?

Things that used to be so simple on the Mac are now so complicated.
I have a bunch of finder windows open. Most of them are hidden behind other application windows, like my browser.
I used to be able to click anywhere on the desktop to make all windows come to the front. No longer. Later, I could do it by mousing all the way over to the Dock and clicking on the Finder icon there. Now even that doesn't work!

I mentioned in my earlier post that if the problem is essentially with one application you can go into Home Folder > Library > Preferences, find the .plis for that application, drag it to the desktop and restart. Check to see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't you can replace the new .plist created with the one on the desktop, or just drag the desktop copy to the Trash.
In your situation I would run Repair Disk from the install CD, then implement some of the suggestions on maintenance.
One other thing to note: a too full HDD can cause problems. If it is over 50% full it could need disk optimization. If have near 85% of available capacity used, you are running a risk not only of compromised performance, but also of directory overlapping and, eventually of a crash.

I want to make all fonts in Thunderbird (GUI?) smaller, including messages.

Just today, all font sizes jumped up.
I don't know why, but these fonts are too large---they make my screen too crowded, the number of messages listed is too small, same for lines of each message.

Have you tried rebooting your computer?

CS6 won't open all images from Windows Explorer

Today a colleague of mine encountered a strange behaviour with Photoshop CS6 64bit on a Win7-PC (also 64bit), which I could reproduce on a second machine.
Highlighting severeal jpg-images in a folder and hitting the Enter-key opens
all images in Photoshop, when Photoshop wasn't running
only some images (1 - 4 images out of 5) randomly, when Photoshop was already running
The same effect happens when I use the "Open with..."-command from Windows Explorer on the images.
Does anyone know this issue?

Normal behavior. Windows only allows a given number of files to be handed over via DDE and that's what happens when a process is already active. When you do this with no program open, it simply blindly fires a standard command with only one file as an argument, but does so for every single file. That's why it works then. Nothing you can change. It's a limitation in Windows itself combined with the fact that only one PS process can be active....

I am a very long time Windows user (since the 80s). In addition I have been editing videos as a hobby since the mid 90's, first mechanically and then (in 2000) on the computer. Currently I use several programs including Vegas Pro (which is a great program) to simpler programs like Power Director. I don't have a problem with my current video editors, I have a problem with Windows. Despite my best efforts it is always getting screwed up and every 4-6 months I have to start from scratch with a complete reload to get the speed and responsiveness that I initially had.
Although I mostly do hobby video (family stuff) I also do some professional video: wedding DVDs, slide shows for milestone birthdays/anniversaries, corporate videos for the web, etc. I do these because people ask me to do them (they are not a huge income generators). I work in both SD and some HD (using A Sony AVCHD camera and little cams like the Mino HD).
And now the question....
After my most recent Windows OS reload I got fed up. I was able to get a slightly used Mac Mini to check out the Mac OS. The mini I have has the following specs:

I started to play around with iMovie and this software is not up to my particular needs. Final Cut Express certainly is, but here is the problem. Anything that I bring into FCE that is placed on the time line has to be rendered. Any video, any transition, audio effect, etc. This is very time consuming and really slows down both my productivity and creativity. The Windows programs that I use don't have this problem and they are able to render "on the fly" or at least give me a proxy which is fine for my needs.
It is clear that the Mac Mini/FCE combo won't work for me. However, In general, I really like the way the Mac works and I would be willing to buy an iMac or even a Mac Pro if I could eliminate this "wait forever to render" problem. Is there a way around this rendering issue? If I upgraded to a better Mac, would that solve this problem and if so, what Mac configuration would be best? I would be willing to spend around 4K if I could get a responsive system, but I sure don't want to waste that kind of money only to return to Windows.

now i'm getting an error that the device has been disconnected or unavailable. (sorry, i don't have the exact message anymore)
i used to get this problem if i hadn't selected to "trust" the device but i can confirm that was done
a suggestion on the web was to use the option to "import photos" and then in the advanced options choose the option to delete the files after import. the import works, but the files don't get deleted so it seems like there is something related here.
any ideas?
i needed to wipe my phone so i did it completely manually from the photos app by selecting every picture and then deleting the recently deleted photos.

How to:Create a blank document, and how to make a font available for editin

Two questions:
1: How do I create a new PDF document? All I see is to create from an existing document or scanner. If I'm creating something from scratch, do I really have to load an existing PDF, delete everything and then start my new document? That's the way it seems, which is nuts!
2: I have tried to edit the text in a document. I did not not create it, but it is open to editing. The font used in the document is "Arial", a very common font that comes with windows. The font is installed and I use it all the time in other Adobe apps. However when I try to edit a ducument using that font, I get a message that "the font is unavailable for editing" and it substitutes some random font. So why is it not available, and how do I make it available?

Platform swaps are only possible for current versions, meaning CS6. As a minor, you would have to buy the commercial CS6 upgrade and make the switch.

If you want to upgrade from CS5 Win to CS5.5 or CS6 MAC, you can do that. Its called Cross Platform Upgrade.

How to make all content in MySites publically available

Hi - we're rolling out My SItes and the customer wants everybody to have read access to everything in every users My SIte.
Can I do this by creating a Full Read Web Application User Policy for Domain users? I mean - will that enable all users to see content even on the private areas of their sky drive (i.e. not in the Shared with Everyone folder or in folders/sites
that they have created and set private permissions on).
Even with that policy applied will users still be able to create private areas if they want to? The idea is that when users leave their content will be easily harvested. If a user does leave and has docs in a secured area of their My Site can a site admin
over ride this and access all areas and take ownership of everything?

if you set Full Read on the WebApplication, there will be no possiblity, to create private areas within that webapplication. (it is the same policy, which also Crawling Account is using to access all data in WebApplication).
If user leaves, SP Admin can take ownership ower his data. (SP Admin usually has access to all WebApplications)

How do I use all fonts and Microsoft Word?

Although my fonts seem to be installed correctly, I often get a message when I try to use a new font that says "font not available for use in Microsoft Word," or some such. How can I make installed fonts available for Word? (By the way, this was true with earlier versions of OS 10.4, as well.)

Fonts you download or otherwise acquire as font files should be placed in the Fonts folder in your Library or in the Fonts folder in the global Library. Having been placed there, the Mac OS knows what to do and there's nothing more for you to do.
However, if you add fonts to the Fonts folder while an application is running...well the OS is supposed to let the program know about that and the program is supposed to gracefully accept them but it doesn't always work that way. I've never seen the error you mention but I can imagine it occurring if you've just added a font and the program was running. Just quit and restart the program.
Having said that, some programs, Word included, prebuild font lists to enable faster loading times. I can also imagine Word's font list becoming corrupt (which happens all too frequently) which might cause your error message. The fix is to delete the font cache file. (found in the ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office Font Cache)

Listing all fonts used in a document?

   As I understand it, TextFonts is a collection of all fonts available to Illustraot. Is there a collection of all fonts used in the open document? Or would I have to step through every textFrame an create that list myself?

I don't know why and how you write error log, so I only add a single alert after all. "xmpString" and "XMP library" are two different methods, you only need one of then.
