I do not want local contacts

I have been a loyal BB user from the get go in 1999.  All devices have had their good things and required tweaking, but the Q10 is the one model with which I have had to decipher more than any other.  I would have assumed the developmental (coding) issues would have gotten resolved at this point, but it seems I am incorrect.
I do not want to store anything in local contacts.  With over 6,000 contacts I assume the BB uses the "local" contact to be able to link Linked in, Facebook, Twitter, etc.  However, this feature does not work, it is supposed to be about simplicity not tediousness.  No local contact gets synchronized to my google accounts and no, I do not want to use BB link.  I only synchronized with a computer cable via BB Desktop when it was an absolute requirement and that has not been the case for many years.  Everything worked beatifully with my Torch and then Bold 9900 but with the Q10 contact management is an absolute NIGHTMARE.  I have searched multiple forums and read hundreds of replies and from what I have read, I get the feeling no one at BB is listeing to the users.
If anyone out there has a solution, please let me know.  I feel the programming change should be that you have a default contact store, in this case to my google apps account, and if I want to have linked contacts in a single contact from linkedin, facebook or twitter accounts (BBM should be able to go with the standard pin field to google too) it is the users choice, then the user would have to use the dreaded local account.
Thanks.

When you create a new contact, just below the title (New Contact) I have a drop-down, named:
Save to: Local contacts, SIM, <Email Account>
Just choose <Email Account> and the contact will only be saved to Google Apps.

  • Do not want ALL Contacts in my Address Book on my iPhone

I have a lot of business contacts in my address book on my Mac that I do not want on my iPhone.  Is there a way to select specific groups to snyc from iCloud?  Or is it all or nothing?
    Thanks
    Bonnie

Depending on how your Address Book is organised it may be relatively simple or not, but basically you need to drag the contacts you want to move to On My Mac to your desktop, delete them from Address Book and add them back (double click on the file on your desktop) once you have selected All On My Mac from the groups list.
If you don't have an All On My Mac group, you'll need to go to preferences > general and make set your default account to On My Mac.
You can drag more than one contact at a time so if you have them in groups already it will help, if not you can work through the list of contacts using cmd click to select just the one's you want.
You can turn off the sync with Google and Yahoo from preferences > accounts > On My Mac.
    Summary:
Select all the contacts you want to move
    Drag them to the desktop
    Delete from Address Book
Set default account to On My Mac
Select All On My Mac from groups
Double click the file on your desktop

    ashish35,
No one from Apple here - we're just users like you. All I can tell you is that electronic fail and with MacBook Pros (and most notebooks) the components are so integrated as to make a repair to the logic board practically impossible, hence the high prices charged for repairs.
Only you can decide if you want to have your computer repaired or put the money towards the purchase of a new computer. If you do decide to purchase a new unit I would suggest that you also purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan which increases your warranty from one year to three years.
    Sorry and good luck,

  • Local Contacts not showing in Contacts List

Local contacts list only displays two contacts, my own and an emergency contact after sync'ing my Samsung 10.1 tablet with Google.
    1.Local Contacts.
When l now open Contacts app, l am constantly presented with 'Setup/ Sync/ Import' contacts.
Yet all my local contacts are still available in the 'Groups' tab.
Through the Groups tab some days ago, l ended up on the full Contacts list, yet am unable to find it again, so the contacts are all there, the problem would seem to be with the App itself?
    2. Google Contacts
    a) When l attempt to 'Sync' with Google, a repeated 'Sync' error is given. I am assuming this is because there are none and all contacts are saved locally.
    b) Why is it not possible to sync Local Contacts with Google and thus have a separate backup.
What l have tried as suggested on 'Setup/ Sync' dialogue:
    1. Syncing and reimporting Local Contacts - This has resulted in multiple entries within 'Groups' tab yet not updated main list.
    2. Syncing with Google account. - Local contacts are not on Google account and as l said above 'Sync' error
    3. Import Contacts - Tried loading SD saved Local Contacts vcf file.
    Please advise.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Whilst there is little I can do regarding the syncing behaviour I may be able to resolve the first issue:
Main Menu > Contacts > Menu Button > Filter > Untick both options under the "Filter" Section > Ensure "All" is ticked in the "Local Contacts" Section under "Display Contacts" > Done.

  • Address book- Local contacts not in iCloud

I have an iMac, iPhone and iPad.
The IOS device are set to sync contacts only with iCloud.
Here's my issue; Address book on my iMac has 407 contacts, but there's only 221 on iCloud, and the IOS devices. Address Book has 2 accounts - iCloud, and Local, so it appears that there are some local contacts that aren't being synced.
I can't see any settings that would allow (force) all contacts to sync, it looks like it should just happen that way, so any assistance would be appreciated.
    Cheers
    Bill

Go to users and groups and choose only your On My Mac Contacts to display.
Ensure that nothing is typed in the search field.
Click to select the first contact and shift-click the last to select them all.
Drag the list of contacts to your desktop.
Delete the contacts from Address Book (using your delete key).
Make sure your iCloud account is your default account (preferences > general).
Select All iCloud contacts from users and groups.
Drag the file you previously dragged to your desktop back onto Address Book.
You might want to back up all your contacts before you begin.
Select All contacts in users and groups
Click to select the first contact and shift-click the last to select them all.
Drag the list of contacts to your desktop.

  • We have 3 iPads 3 iPhones 3 Apple id's.  We want to use 1 calendar we can all access on each device and have each device update or sync and we all receive notifications from the one calendar. We do not want to share photos contacts, ect.  Please help

We have 3 Apple Id's, each ID using an iPad and an iPhone (3 id's, 3 iPads, 3 iPhones). We want to use one calendar on all 6 devices and have that one calendar update or sync to all devices.  We would like all 6 devices to provide notifcations from the one unique calendar as well.  We do not want to share contacts, photos, ect.  Please suggest how to achieve this, with the name of the calendar, if I am to get one from the App store, and how to set this up.  Please talk in easy terms as I am technically Challenged. Thank you.  3 iPad air 2, 2 iPhone 6 plus, 1 iPhone 4s.

    Hello there MizzouTrojan,
If I understand correctly you want all 6 devices to have access to a single calendar that each device gets notifications for and can edit. You can do that with an private iCloud shared calendar. First sign into www.icloud.com and use these steps from the following article to share a calendar:
iCloud: Share a calendar with others
    Share a calendar privately
Click the Share button to the right of the calendar name in the sidebar, then select Private Calendar.
Note:    You can also share the same calendar publicly. For instructions, see the next task, “Share a calendar publicly.”
Type the invitee’s email address in the Add Person field and press Return.
Click the pop-up menu with the invitee’s name and choose access privileges (View & Edit or View Only).
For each person you want to share the calendar with, repeat steps 2 and 3.
When you’ve invited everyone and set their privileges, click OK.
Invitation emails are sent from your iCloud email address to the participants you specified.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • I have 2 iphones that share the same apple id but do not want them to share contacts and apps, how can I change this

I have 2 iphones that share the same apple ID I do not want them to share contacts and apps how can I change this?

You can use separate AppleIDs for iCloud, iMessage and iTunes - you just need to create unique AppleIDs for the iCloud accounts if syncing contacts that way (you will need an email address that is not already registered as an AppleID though to get another AppleID).
Apps are a different matter in that purchases are tied to the AppleID used to log in to the store to make the purchase.  So you can create another AppleID for iTunes as well and use different ones on the different phones, but any apps you have already purchased with your existing AppleID are permanently tied to that AppleID.
Really, unless you are sharing apps, content and such, there is no reason to use the same AppleID on each anyway.  So the simplest solution is to create new AppleID(s) for the second device.  If you need an email address to do that, just get a gmail account (or hotmail, yahoo or any other free email account).

You can continue to use the current AppleID for iTunes, but your husband can create a new AppleID to use to create a new iCloud account that will be his own and not overlap with yours.  If you do not have another email address to use for an AppleID, just get a free Gmail account and use that.
You can have as many AppleIDs as you want (or at least, as many as you have email addresses for).  You can use a separate AppleID for the store, another for iCloud, and even another for iMessage if you wish.
You will want to keep the current one as the shared one for the store as all your previous purchases are permanently tied to it, and thus you need that AppleID to update or redownload your current purchased content.

  • I have a new SIM/service and want to transfer all my contacts from the current 4S to the new SIM in my old 3GS.  I do NOT want to backup/restore the entire phone contents (iTunes or iCloud), JUST the contacts.  How?

Current phone 4S with service from one provider.  Also have a new SIM with another provider, and want to copy my contacts from the 4S across to my old 3GS which I will be using for a bit as an alternative.  Definitely do not want anything except the contacts copied across so a full backup/restore is NOT what I'm after, and I can't see (in the iTunes backup) how to only do the contacts.

Sorry, my bungle - from what devices I am used to - these Apple things still have me confused at times.
The core requirement is the same - to get the contacts from the 4S onto the 3GS without backing up the whole device/apps etc.
And a second part of that is how to get the contacts onto a SIM for a device that DOES store them there.  No doubt that will be a problem as it only has name/number combos, not all the fruit the iPhone keeps under a contact.  Maybe it can't done.  A simple export to CSV or something that could be edited would suffcie if there were an import tool to get it onto the SIM in the simpler format.

Not photos, just data synced with iCloud shown in Settings>iCloud.  If you don't have sufficient storage to back up to iCloud, back up to your computer instead using iTunes (connect you phone to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of your phone in iTunes, go to ths Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Back Up Now).  Also transfer your purchases to your iTunes library (connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes and go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases). If you have photo stream photos older than 30 days tha you wan to save, save these to your camera roll before backing up (tap Select, tap the photos, tap the share icon -- box with upward facing arrow, then tap Save to Camera Roll).
When setting up your new phone, when given the option choose Restore from iTunes Backup and restore the backup you made earlier.

  • How do i delete someone from the gamecenter? they are listed as friend and i dont want them their-they are not in my contact list... please help

some kid wanted to play me in a game (who i dont know) and i played them- and no longer talk to them- but they are in my friends list in game center-  they are not in my contact list..... how can i get them out of my gamecenter friends???

The instruction should read "Settings > General > Usage > Music > All Music > Swipe right to left > Delete".
But doing so may have the undesirable effect of screwing up artwork and/or playback stability (maybe this was fixed, but this method cause a lot of grief in iOS 6 and early in iOS 7).
But try this -- connect the iPad to iTunes, and if you're not in manual sync mode then enable that and apply the change.  Then while connected to iTunes, navigate the contents of the iPad through iTunes and see if you can delete the albums that way.

  • Outlook 2010 ThumbnailPhoto not displayed for local contacts

    Hello,
I'm running Exchange 2010 SP2 with Outlook 2010 clients.  We are running Lync 2010 and have been using the thumbnail photos for some time now.  However, we've found an issue with images showing consistently in Outlook 2010 and are hoping there
is an easy fix for this.
    1. The user has a smartphone and decides to search the GAL for a user from the smartphone and then "add to contacts" from there.  This adds the contact to the users Outlook contacts WITHOUT the image.  From this point on the user won't see that
    contact's thumbnail photo in emails.
    2. Lync automatically adds "frequent contacts" into the users contact folder WITHOUT the thumpnail photo. From this point on the user won't see that contact's image in emails.
    3. A user who is working offline decides to copy a contact from the OAB to their local contacts.  From this point on the user won't see that contact's thumbnail photo in emails.
The fix for this is to have the user delete the contacts without thumbnails from their contacts folder and then re-add them from the GAL while connected to AD (i.e. NOT from their smartphone).  This isn't a great solution and I'm hoping there is an
    easier way to manage this.
    Thanks for your help!
    --Shaun

    Hi  ,
In fact, we upload pictures to Active Directory using the
Import-RecipientDataProperty cmdlet. By default, thumbnailPhoto is included in the OAB as an Indicator attribute. This means the value of the attribute isn't copied to the OAB— instead, it simply
indicates the client should get the value from Active Directory. If an Outlook client (including Outlook Anywhere clients connected to Exchange using HTTPS) can access Active Directory, the thumbnail will be downloaded and displayed. When offline, no thumbnail
    downloads.
And please check the if lync client chosen Default corporate picture .

when i start a new email, it shows some of my old email addresses. how do i get rid of the ones i dont want? they are not in my contacts info.

Unfortunately the Mail app on the iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch does have the option to clear previous recipients. If you don't want to live with it, the only way to remove these cached email addresses from the Mail application is by restoring the iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch as a new iPad/iPhone/iPod.  If you restore from backup, the cache is also restored.
