I don't get a completed import message.

Hi, so i have been doing a ton of importing lastely, and i don;t think the system is having a problem importing, while slow, my issue is that if i keep an import to around 400 records, it will complete, but the page that shows that loading circle, never refreshes to say import complete..
I can only check by looking at the web app total before import, then after 8 minutes (seems to take about 8 minutes for 400 records) i'll open the webapp page in a new tab to check and see if the new total is 800, then i know its done, meanwhile the initial page where i started the import, still shows the spinning.
This is very time consuming, and scary becuase I am never certain the import is complete.
I've tried all browsers, ff ie chr saf, on both my desktop and laptop, even on my android tablet on 4g.
I imported 8 files of 400 each, they all end up working using that method of checking totals in a new tab, but only 2 actually completed and showed me a import success message.
I have a huge import coming up (65k), and am not looking forward to somewhat guessing in between imports if they completed. Are there any browser tweaks to help this, or alternate import methods to try?

Hopefully, when the dev team starts improvements to this part of the system, you'll be able to FTP or use the file manager to uplaod the fiel you wish to import, into _System folder, and then log in to admin and select the file for upload. This will do a quick check for validity and then it will push this process into background and tell you to get a coffee and look out for the email notification when it's done. Same with exports. You setup the export and wait for the notification with the link to a file. The file is saved inside the _System folder and you can FTP down from the server. That way we wouldn't have to load these huge data sets into memory, but simply have a process that goes line by line and reads or writes to a file. Wouldn't that be nice
This is just my thoughts on how we could handle this stuff. It doesn't mean that the dev team will take this approach.
Anyway, I'm sorry Rich, but I don't have a sollution for you at this stage.

It sounds like you are not getting notified when recieving a text message on your phone. I recommend starting by verifying that Messages is set up for notifications with:
Check Settings > Notification Center to ensure that the app is configured for notifications. If notifications do not appear in the Notification Center, verify that the Notification Center setting for the app is enabled.

Can I use Messages in OSX to text with a person on an Android platform? My iPhone works cross platform but I don't get the text in Messages on my desktop with OSX 10.8.2

Does "Messages" in OSX 10.8.2 work cross platform? My daughter has an android phone and I can text with her OK in iOS. However, her texts don't show up on OSX whereas texts from my son, who has an iPhone, work in iOS and OSX.

The answer is yes and no.
As Barney-15E link says you can get the Messages app to SMS to AIM Buddies. Or rather telephone Numbers as AIM Buddies.
There are limits.
The computer has to be set as if in the United States (System Preferences > Language and Text > Region)
The phone is question has to be on a carrier that supports AIM SMS forwarding which only applies to some US based carriers.
The reason the SMS Messages arriving on the iPhone do not sync is that they are not iMessages (the "No" Part).
I use Messages with the Buddy List Showing.
As a test I have added a made up number as a Buddy and also created a Address Card for it.
So Mousing over the "Buddy" reveal the "Screen Name" which is the phone Number
You have to include the Leading +1 country code as well.

I don't get tones when a message arrives

For some reason I no longer hear a tone when a message arrives on my iPhone 5. Occasionally I do get a tone, but usually not - any suggestions?

Check to make sure you do not have the 'Do Not Disturb' feature turned on. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and make sure the crescent-shaped moon icon is not highlighted. If so, turn it off. Make sure you do not have your phone set to vibrate and that your volume is loud enough to hear the tone alert.

How do I set up different icloud accounts for each family member and make them able to access them on our common mac using their user name on the mac. I am doing this to make sure kids don't get access to our messages.

We have several apple products in the family. I would like to set up different icloud accounts for each memeber. I lately noticed having activated different devices with same icloud account that each device can access everyones messages by going in their settings and clicking which number or email they want to use to see messages. Let me make sure I am understood, on my sons ipod in his messages settings he can switch to my cell number and see all my messages. Re setting the devices isn't my great issue but can i set up each kids user account on my mac to their individual icloud accounts?

Any devices connected to the same icloud account can sync all the data on that account. For this reason an icloud account is really for a single user.
On a mac, if each user has their own account, then the itunes for that mac account should be set up to connect to that user's icloud account (System preferences>icloud).

Is Mail still "spinning"? If it's been doing that for a while, I'd kill it, using either Activity Monitor or the OS X application picker. Then relaunch Mail and see what happens.
Two "by the ways":
1) Your system details mention an PPC iMac. Since a non-Intel Mac can't run OS X 10.6, you seem to have another Mac. You might want to consider updating your system details.
2) You seem to have been misled by the poor labeling of the message composition fields on this forum into trying to enter your entire post into the "subject" field. In the future, just enter a summary of your post there and the main text into the field below it.

When I try and install 4.0 I get the following error message: The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items. How can this be?

Not sure what else to add. I have tried several times to install version 4.0 but get the same message every time. As an open source browser I don't understand why such a message would appear. I have a Mac Air with the latest OS.

If you get an error message that you do not have sufficient permissions or have other problems with updating to update then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Is this music purchased back in DRM days? I don't actually have any iTunes music so I can't test with my iTunes 7.5, but I know that without iTunes 10 you cannot even connect to the store anymore. I wouldn't think that would require an active connection to the store all the time, otherwise how could you play music on a computer in the middle of nowhere? Did you do something to trigger iTunes suddenly wanting to connect and check on machine authorization?

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
You may have to log out or reboot in order to complete an uninstallation.

Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.

Why am I all of a sudden getting an unreadable file message when trying to import photos to iphoto from the card in my Nikon camera? I have done this many times before with no problem.

Can you access the files from Image Capture (in your Applications Folder)?
Have you tried a USB Card Reader?
Have you tried reformatting the card with the Camera?

Actually, the Finder solution did not work for me, but here's what did:
Quit Mail (for safety's sake).
Open Terminal (it's in Utilities folder usually, but since I updated to ML it's in a folder called Other for some reason)
Once Terminal is open, you'll want to login as ROOT. You do this as follows:
Type
sudo -i
Then hit Enter/Return. You'll be promoted for your system password. Hopefully you'll remember it. Enter your password then hit Enter/Return.
You'll then be at what's known as a root prompt.
At this point BE VERY CAREFUL. You have the ability at this point to completely destroy your machine beyond repair. Only type what I list below:
To find the folder that contains the email message you'll need to type the following:
find . -name "218130.emlx"
Hit Enter/Return
This will take a minute or two but what should appear in the list of other items that appear is something along the lines of the following (it won't be exactly this but will look LIKE this) I've replaced some personally identifying info:
./Users/yourname/Library/Mail/V2/POP-youremailaddress@yourmailserver/INBOX.mbox/ 0355DF0D-5E99-4798-B79E-48D71E68AF34/Data/3/2/Messages/23219.emlx
This line describes the location of the offending email. You know what to put yourself into this directory:
cd /Users/yourname/Library/Mail/V2/POP-youremailaddress@yourmailserver/INBOX.mbox/0 355DF0D-5E99-4798-B79E-48D71E68AF34/Data/3/2/Messages/
Hit Enter/Return
Notice, I left of the name of the actual email address. You'll need to be sure you type the location EXACTLY or this won't work. You want to be in the Messages folder. You'll know you're there because your Terminal prompt will look something like this:
Your Name - iMac:Messages
Then just to be sure you're in the right place, type
ls
Hit Enter/Return
You should then see something like this:
iMac:Messages root# ls
23013.emlx 23096.emlx 23100.emlx 23156.emlx 23210.emlx 23213.emlx 218130.emlx
You'll see the offending message. Now, you delete ONLY this message. Type:
rm -f 218130.emlx
That's RM at the start above. You'll need to type it in lower case. Be sure that's all you type.
Hit Enter/Return
You'll should be disappointed at the results because it will look like nothing happened. You can hit ls and Enter/Return one more time and the offending file should be gone.
EXIT TERMINAL. DO NOT TYPE ANYTHING ELSE. DO NOT "POKE AROUND". THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO EXPLORE. SERIOUS SYSTEM DAMAGE CAN BE CAUSED FROM HERE. EXIT TERMINAL NOW.
Now re-open Mail - the message will still appear to be in there, but magically, you can delete it. you can also delete it from your Trash for good measure.

Be sure Safari does not have the Block Pop-Up Windows preference set.
Where I work now there are several unencrypted VLANs that require authentication, and Safari promptly pops up a window for me to register every time.

Now when my husband sends a text message to me I don't get them all or some days none. When I send him a text message he gets them from my email address. I cannot send him a standard text anymore my phone only wants to iMessage, so if the signal is not right it just sits there undelivered???

You and your husband can share a store account and still have seperate iCloud accounts for your contacts, bookmarks and stuff like that. Click here for instructions to make an apple account without entering a credit card. Make sure you use a different email address for each apple account.
Set up your iPhone/iPad whatever using the new account for iCloud. Then go into settings/store and sign in with your purchasing account, you may need to sign out of the other account. To the best of my knowledge, your household is allowed to share purchased legally, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Once you each have your own devices set to your own accounts you can set them to backup to that account and it will keep all your contacts seperate.
