I don't like how Itunes renames my songs

By default Itunes is renaming songs as Song# - Song Title. I personally like to name my song files as "Artist - Album - song# - song title."
Is there anyway to make it so that when music is imported to the iTunes folder and managed by iTunes that it can name the song how I want it to be named rather than by their "Song# - Song Title?"
Any help would be appreciated.

If you import from a CD, by default the heirarchy is Artist folder/Album folder/tracks and the tracks are listed with track # ahead of the track name. There used to be a preference to not add track numbers when importing, but Apple has taken that out of the software. I haven't seen it since version 7.2 that I can recall.
I like to have complete control over my tags too, but when I burn with Roxio, it helps to have the track numbers to preserve the original order of the tracks.
On my Mac I use a batch file renamer to remove the track numbers from the file name, and that's cool, because it doesn't remove the info from the tags and the album order stays the same.

    If your library was working on your computer and then popped up empty all of a sudden then this might be what you need...
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
    Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
    See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
    When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Now that I erased my songs I don't know how to download my songs off iTunes

    I had unwanted songs on my iPod so I erased everything. Now that I have started over, when I go into iTunes I don't know how to get the songs to download onto the iPod again. Can you help me?

    How have you got the iPod set to update? If you are updating manually then drag what you want from the library to the iPod icon. If it's set to update automatically you just need to connect the iPod and iTunes wiil do the rest.
    For info: iPod 101
    The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

    You used to be able to drag the artwork anywhere outside of iTunes (10.7). Get Info on the track, click the artwork tab, and simply try dragging the image to the desktop or folder of your chosing. You'll probably have to rename the image file to your specifications.

  • I loaded my Iphone3 from Itunes and I don't know how to delete these songs and put a new set of songs into my phone

    I loaded my Iphone 3 from Itunes and don't understand how to delete all these songs to add a new library of songs
    Can I do it from my Iphone or do I have to do it through Itunes.  HELP plz!

    You can delete songs direct from the iPhone.
    To add additional songs from your iTunes library on your computer is done with iTunes on your computer via the iTunes sync process. You can remove all the existing and transfer different songs, albums, genres, etc.

  • How to rename a song that says Track 1

    How do I rename a song that I have imported from a CD that just says Track 1, it came up with a list of possible options but none of them were right, I only got an Okay or Cancel option.  I have also searched for the song in itunes store but it doesn't exist.  I have quite a few un-named tracks on my itunes and it would be good to name them all.  Thanks

    Hihglight the song. Right-click and then select Get Info/Info and then type in the information you want to the appropriate fields. Press OK.

  • Can i use itunes with my new Samsung tablet. i have an ipod mini (i know its old!) and we got rid of our computer in favour for the tablet but now i don't know how to download more songs!!??

    How can i connect my ipod mini to my new Samsung tablet?

    No, there is not iTunes for Android.  Actually, even if you had an iPad, there would be no way to sync an old iPod with it.  You need a computer (either a Mac or Windows PC) running iTunes to sync an iPod mini.

  • I like the new rapid release, but I don't like how it's done.

    Hello Firefox users.
    I have a suggestion for your rapid release program. Ever since Firefox 2, I have been a loyal fan. Each update had a meaning and a purpose.
    Ever since Firefox 5, each update makes slight improvements to technologies that aren't even used by the majority of the web. I'm not criticizing the updates you give, but instead how they are delivered.
    Since Firefox 5, every 6~ weeks, a new firefox is released with a new version number. They offer little new.
    My suggestion is to stop increasing the main version number.
    When you go to your Firefox version, it says Firefox 7.0.1. At the this rate, the second digit of the firefox version will likely NEVER be used. How can they give a decent update in less than 6 weeks? That wont happen, they will include it in the next release.
    Instead I propose a slightly revised plan. Instead of increasing the main version number, increase the second version number.
    For example;
    Firefox 8 is coming out very soon, instead of releasing it as Firefox 8, instead release it as 7.1. Firefox 9 can be released as 7.2. Firefox 10 can be released as 7.3, and etc.
    Based on the old plan (before rapid release) a MAJOR update would be released very rarely. Example:
    Firefox 2.0 released October 24th, 2006
    Firefox 3.0 released June 17, 2008
    That's about '''1 3/4 years later'''! In that same time span, Firefox will have increased 15 version numbers! That means '''we will be at version 22 in 1 3/4 years'''!
    I am in no way suggesting reverting. The new rapid release helps get new technologies out there.
    Here is my plan:
    * Firefox 7.1 (8) Week #6
    * Firefox 7.2 (9) Week #12
    * Firefox 7.3 (10) Week #18
    * Firefox 7.4 (11) Week #24
    * Firefox 7.5 (12) Week #30
    * Firefox 7.6 (13) Week #36
    * Firefox 7.7 (14) Week #42
    * Firefox 7.8 (15) Week #48
    * '''Firefox 8.0 (16) Week #54'''
    The six week plan with incremental updates will give us Version 8 on Week 54, almost one year after Version 7. This will allow for technologies to be released without undermining the huge progress that was made from version Firefox 1.0 - 4.0.
    This will stop the large amount of complaints that Firefox has been receiving.
    The rapid release that Chrome uses works well because they started with it, and they are used to it.
    I hope Firefox will consider this plan instead of the old one. I cannot see any flaws in it, but if you can, '''please''' point them out, as I would like to either rebuttal them, or agree with them.

    They do, just may not seem to be as obvious or as big as the the Firefox 4.0 release was in abundance of features.

  • Firefox has a memory leak and I need to update it, but I want to keep 3.5 because I don't like how the newest version of Firefox is set up.

    My computer is running low on RAM, and when I look at what processes are using the most memory, firefox is the number one using between 28,000 to 93,000k, so I'm guessing that it has a memory leak.
    And because of that memory leak I have to update firefox, however I really dislike the newest version of firefox and I'd prefer to stick with the version I have, which is 3.5.

    Often the memory problems are not just from Firefox in isolation, but partly relating to all the extensions available for it and then the videos and animations it runs on media rich sites.
    The first thing to do is to upgrade to firefox 3.6 which is at least a supported version (Maybe not for much longer)
    * see [[updating firefox]]
    Next version after 3.6 is 4, you should avoid that, it did have some memory problems, that were worse than 3,6 and firefox 4 is no longer secure or supported.
    The techies at Firefox have been working on memory problems recently and have made many improvements, but some of these improvements are only seen in the trial versions of Firefox.
    I would in fact suggest you upgrade to Firefox 5 the current release version (soon to be replaced with Firefox 6)
    I am able to run Firefox v3.6 to v8 on legacy XPs with less than 1GB RAM. Firefox in itself is not necessarily very demanding in terms of RAM. I am not sure what the figures are you are quoting, or whether they are high. ( Note 1Gb is in the order of 1 000 000 k )
    As for not liking the set-up of new versions of Firefox, there is quite abit that can be changed, maybe you would be able to configure it more to your liking with little effort.

    I just downloaded the new IOS 7 update, and noticed that in the top slid down menu. I lost my twitter and facebook status inputs. Where you could write status with out opening the apps. I would love this back !!

    Tell Apple.
    No one in these user to user technical support forums can make it magically happen.
    Although if there's a setting to change it, that would be covered in the User's Guide.

  • Itunes rename smy song titles

    When I play some of my songs in my itunes it renames then to the track number in front of the song title i.e. Champagne Supernova becomes 12 Champagne Supernova. Any ideas?

    Yet when i alter the song titles in their folder by editing the id tag
    Are you editing the filenames in the folder or editing the ID3 tags?
    iTunes doesn't care what the file name is. It will use the ID3 tags.
    When you edit the info in iTunes, it will change the ID3 tags. If the songs are in the iTunes music folder, iTunes will change the to match the song title ID3 tags.

  • Itunes renames my songs when i click on them

    I download lots of music from musicblogs such as scissorkick and fluxblog. When i import the music to my library, i generally have to edit the info, such as the song name, artist name, genre, album etc. When i play some of the songs, some of them will revert back to the original name that i had to switch them from. For example, the genre the original song shows up as may be "alternative". I change it to "indie". When i play the song, it changes back to "alternative". What should i do to prevent this from occurring? This has only happened on itunes 5. I have not had this problem with itunes 4.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>iTunes and App Stores and sifnout and sign back in
    - Reset all settings
    Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
    All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
