I don't own any Apple devices. I used to though. How do I access my music in the cloud?

The dilema is in the title. I don't own any Apple devices. I used to though. I owned a nano I bought music for through iTunes. But now I own an Android, and a PC. But I'd still like to access and listen to my previously purchased music that I bought through iTunes. However, I can't access the iCloud. I downloaded the iCloud Control Panel for PC. It asks me to sign in with my Apple ID. But when I try to sign in, it says I'm not signed up for the iCloud. But there isn't anywhere to sign up online! Unless I just haven't found it yet. I can't find anywhere to sign up online or in iTunes. The lack of tech support and the difficulty of use is precisely why I switched to Android and PC. I just want the music I PURCHASED.

Hi there Ginger,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The article linked below provides troubleshooting tips that should help you resolve the iTunes Match issue that you're running into, where most of your music isn’t appearing in iCloud.
How to troubleshoot iTunes Match - Apple Support
Songs appear to be missing
Songs containing DRM (Digital Rights Management) might not appear in iCloud, or might appear grayed out. This can occur if your computer is not authorized to play that content. Try authorizing your computer, then manually update iTunes Match. To determine what Apple ID your computer needs to be authorized for to play a specific song:
Locate and select the song in your iTunes library.
Choose File > Get Info.
In the Summary tab, locate the Account Name field in the right column. Write it down.
Click OK.
Choose Store > Authorize this Computer.
Type in the account name from the Summary field and enter its password. Click Authorize.
Choose Store > Update iTunes Match.
So long,
-Jason

p.s. I am not knowledgeable of Apple/iTunes etc, I was under the impression that if I purchased an album then I can use my purchase on a non-Apple device

    Micky,
The iTunes Store sells songs in AAC format.  Most Android phones can play AACs.  Just sync them to your phone per the instructions with the phone.
If by any chance your phone does require MP3 format, you can use iTunes to convert the files, per this guide:
iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format - Apple Support
(This conversion does not require burning.)
For future reference, note that the iTunes Store is really optimized for people using Apple devices.  You might find it more convenient to buy music in Mp3 format from Amazon Digital Music or Google Play Music.

Is it possible to use create an icloud id on android device or a windows pc? I don't have any apple device.

Try this link.  You will need to have an icloud account and other Apple devices but this will help store pictures etc.  not sure what you are trying to do but maybe this will help.

  • HT201272 Anyone know how I can figure out which of my family's 5 Apple devices was used to purchase something from iTunes ?   We all have the same apple account/ID.   Thanks!

Anyone know how I can figure out which of my family's 5 Apple devices was used to purchase a specific song via iTunes ?   We all have the same Apple ID/account which makes it tricky...  Thanks!

What I was afraid of.   Thanks.   Seems like someone at Apple should be figuring this out.  Would be nice to link each purchase to a specific device.
That would not be practical or probably even possible since one of the features of recent versions of iTunes and the iTunes Store is to allow new purchases to be automatically downloaded to every device registered to your Apple ID when something is purchased. If you want purchases linked to specific devices, each user should have his or her own iTunes Store account.
    Regards.

  • HT4914 If I use I tunes match and have all my music on the cloud, will I be able to listen to it, meaning will it be on my device when I am without a cell or wifi signal....like on a plane or in an area without service?

If I choose to use I tunes match, and store my music on the cloud, will I be able to access it when I don't have a cell signal or wifi?  For example, when I'm on a plane or in an area without a cell signal or wifi.  And, if its just cellular coverage, will it count as "data" against my limit?

Yes, it would count against your data.  The transfer part is part of your cellular coverage, whether it be from Apple's iCloud or a totally unrelated feed.
iTunes match - http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/ - see FAQ at end too
"Does iTunes Match stream or download songs?
On a computer, any songs stored in iCloud will stream over the air when played, though you can download them at any time by clicking the iCloud download button. iOS devices will start playing tracks from iCloud as they download and will store them so that you can listen to them later even if you don’t have a network connection. Apple TV only streams songs."
So, from the above, if you are sitting in an airplane and suddenly decide you want to listen to a song that has not downloaded to your device then you will have to wait until you can use your service again (or pay the airline to use their wireless).

  • My library will not let me access some tunes because they are tied to an Apple ID that is and old email address and that address is no longer valid. How do I access my music without the old password?

I can only access part of my Itunes library.  Some of the music is tied to old Apple ID's that are email addressed that are not active.  How do I access my music?  I've tried everythign and been to the Apple store multiple times with no resolution.  They suggested I call Apple support and have the security team assist.  I can't get a hold of anyone in security and both times I called support they hung up on me mid conversation?  Very nice...

Go to Settings, and then turn iMessage and FaceTime on if they are off.  If they are on, then turn them both off, restart the phone, then turn them back on.
Go back to Settings > iCloud.  Whether the current or old email address is displayed there, try your current password.

  • Don't have any Apple devices, just want to backup my iTunes files from my PC.

It seems like iCloud is a way to do this, but it seems to require installation on at least one Apple device. If I download iCloud for PC and sign in, it says my acct is not an iCloud account and I don't see any way to make it an iCloud account.

  • Can I log in to iCloud without having any Apple devices?

I don't own any Apple devices. I am using Windows 8.1. I have iTunes 11.1.3.8 on my Windows HP laptop. I've subscribed to iMatch to store my iTunes songs on iCloud. When iTunes was automatically updated, iCloud 3.0 Control Panel was also installed on my Windows 8.1 computer. When I tried to sign in to iCloud I received this message:
"Cannot Sign Up. This Apple ID is valid but is not an iCloud Account."
I'm confused. I thought that I had an iCloud account throught my iMatch subscription.
Do I have to own an Apple device in order to log in to iCloud? How do I log in to iCloud? How do I set up an iCloud Account?
I tried to call Apple Support about this issue, but they asked for my Apple Serial Number, and I don't have one because I don't own an Apple device.
I hope someone can help me with this issue. Thanks in advance. Cheers!

You have to have an Apple device to create an iCloud account (not just subscribe to a service like iTiunes Match).  You have to create your iCloud account on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) running iOS 5 or higher, or on a Mac running OS X Lion (10.7.5) or higher.  After creating your account on one of these devices you will then be able to sign into the account on your PC.

No need to guess - that's why. 5GB per account, upgradeable at a cost.

  • I can't get version 11.1.4 to install because it fails to get the Mobile device program.  I don't have any mobile devices.  How can I overide this so I just get iTunes on my PC?

I cannot get iTunes 11.1.4 to install.  I have tried uninstalling iTunes and downloading itues again witha manual install. It always fails because it cant get the mobile device part to work.  I am the administrator and I don't have ANY mobile devices.  I just want to update the program on my PC - and now I don't have any iTunes at all.

  • Will my Apple ID work for any apple device

Absolutely. Assuming that you are talking about your own devices. You can sign in on another person's devices, but it's not advisable to do so.

I own three Apple devices, but my iPad remained associated with my old email address and password. How can I register it with the same new email and password?

If you updated your existing account then try logging out of it on the iPad by tapping on the id in Settings > Store and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPad. If you created a new account then any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can download updates to its apps.
