If the person is sending you an emoticon, it wouldn't appear as a picture. Back in the old days, before emoji, that's how we did it.

If you mean iMessage then go into Messages in the Settings app. The feature is Read Receipts.

When someone sends me an imessage, it plays a different tone than i chose. Please Help.

Whenever i get a message from imessage (text works fine) i get a different tone than what i chose - specifically 'Bulletin' - and i don't know ow to change it to the one i want. The best way is to not share Apple IDs but also make sure under Settings & Messages on both devices that only one phone number is checked.

This is because group messaging is turned on. This means that when you send a text to multiple people they can see who it was sent to. Any response from any of those people will be to sent everybody on the text sorta like CC on an email. To change this go to Settings>Messages>Group Messaging. If you turn it off you WILL be able to send groups messages but the people you send it to won't see who you sent it to sorta like BCC on email.

No there is no way. The phone has priority over accessory functions. This is common knowledge to all that have these kinds of phones. If this is going to be an issue then get a dedicated media player without a phone. ALL devices do this, to include the iPhone.

When someone sends me a picture as a message it never appears in the messages, but the icon shows there is a message there. I just can't access it. This has been happening since the update.

So since I did the update on my phone, it rarely accepts picture messages. Usually the icon will show there is a message there (mine is up to 4 now), however it doesn't come through and I can't access it. I have tried a soft reset and simply restarting my phone, but it isn't working.

Just so I'm clear, you do not receive picture messages at all? You see the message notification but when you check there is no message?
You mentioned this started after the software update. Try removing the SIM card and powering off the phone for a minute. Insert the SIM card and power the phone on. Test, by sending yourself a picture message and see if you receive it. Then have someone else send you a picture message and see if you receive it. Keep me posted.

Can't retrieve content when someone sends me an MMS message

Hi folks
I can't seem to retrieve content from MMS messages when they are sent to me. All the settings are there as far as I know and it's also set to automatically retrieve them but it won't seem to work.
I have a Curve 3G 9300 Smartphone and am on O2. It's a pay as you go but have a data plan and can use the internet and email with no problems whatsoever.
Any suggestions?

Well I don't know if it works the same way in the US but here in the UK we have to ask O2 to turn off MMS on our contracts. It should be set up that way by default but is sometimes not. When that is done you get the text asking you to go to the web site to view and including the pin number needed.

In the Messages > Preferences > General Section is a Line about When I quit, set my Status to Off line.
If you tick this it should stop all Off line Messages from any source from starting up Messages.
Basically it comes from iChat and AIM and Jabber Logins which in AIM's case and some Jabber server can do Off Line IMs.
This means if some Messages whilst you are Off line the server will store the Messages until you are on Line.
However IMAgent in Lion and Mountain Lion and iChatAgent in earlier versions run in the background all the time from Mac Start up.
It is the support app that "Listens" when you have not started the App.
It will launch the app when an Off Line IM comes in.
I have found that iMessages will also launch the Messages app if this setting is not set.
(realistically you are never Off Line with iMessages)
It can help if another device is receiving the iMessages. This way Sync versions of the iMessages don't also wake up the app.

Some of my group members don't show up when I send an email

I have some strange behavior in my group/mail contacts. I have set up a small group of people (8) in contacts to whom I need to send emails on a regular basis. But when I address the email to the group only 6 of the 8 show up in the address box. I then have to physically add the two missing contacts (always the same two). I have tried deleteing the missing contacts from the group list and then adding them back in, but this doeasn't change the behavior.
Anyone any ideas?

Hi Angela,
I don't think your problem lies in SAP. You need to check with the exchange guys to see if the e-mail you send is relayed in the exchange server. Depending on your sending address it is possible the exchange server will not send it on. Depending on the place the exchange server is, there is a possibility there still is a firewall which blocks smtp communication.

When someone sends us a picture & we download, where is it?

When friends attache a picture with the jpeg extension, we click on the picture to download it to the screen and it isn't working like that. For awhile the picture downloaded to the desktop but now it doesn't appear there either. Where is the picture downloading to?

The download location usually is "my documents/downloads" directory. You can view and change it in '''tools''' -> '''options''' window, '''general''' panel, the 'downloads' section.
