I don't see my iPod in iTunes

I've already read Apple's troubleshooting article on this but it still doesn't show up. Maybe it's because I haven't used my ipod in a few yrs (was waiting for the battery replacement) and have not been so smoothed with my ipod anymore. Basically, when I open itunes my ipod doesn't show up. Then I'll click on recently added and it will show up but then after a few moments my ipod will say it's ok to disconnect. Any suggestions. I'm just trying to add songs to my ipod.

Tried to turn Avast off but the problem still there.
I created a Playlist to my iphone using the musics already on it and the next try i could add new files to this playlist (and to the iphone) but if I try to add it the way I used to do (directly to the iphone) I still get the prohibited symbol.
This is ok, since I can use it the way I want (so far, i didn´t try yet to add other files like PDF or CBR files) and find a way to add the files i want, but I cannot help to think how wierd this is...
I just don´t like the way apple choosed to make possible transfer files to my device. I really like my iphone but my friends with Nokia and Android have an easier life on that matter...

My problem is almost the same, I went to plug my 60g iPod into my PC USB port, and it locked up my computer and iPod. Now my iPod is stuck on the Do not disconnect screen and hasn't even changed the time at the top, still stuck at 10:05AM. I'm getting kind of upset here. I haven't even had the thing for over a year yet and I keep it in good shape.
Any ideas on how to fix would be helpful.

It worked just fine last weekend. I have windows 8.1 and a brand new pc, new iPod also, the new Nano. now after the update today, iTunes says iPod has been detected but could not be indentified properly. I can see it in windows. I tried the reset on the iPod also. what else can I do?? HELP

Doublechecking. Have you tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

In the newest version of Itunes, my intent was to sync new music that I have onto my Ipod 30GB. It connects to Itunes but I don't see on the left panel "device". I normally highlight and drag the music over to the Ipod device. But, it doesn't appear. I don't intend to erase what I already have in my Ipod, I want to add new music to it. I'm very irritated and frustrated with this new Itunes version.

I've installed my new Ipod Nano 2GB on my computer. Also i have installed iTunes. iTunes is running but i can't see my iPod in it and so it isn't possible to export any songs from iTunes to my ipod.

OK ,try this
1) Quit iTunes
2) Eject the iPod using Windows Explorer.
3) Go to Task manager > Processes tab.
4) Click on the Image Name column to sort alphabetically.
5) End iPodService.exe and iTunesHelper.exe.
6) Click Start > Run and copy this string into the blank box
"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
keep the quotes, they are needed
7) Start iTunes
8) Plug in your nano

This happened to me just the other day. It's possible that this might fix it...
I suggest you try what worked for me:
Turn on the Prevent iPods from Syncing automatically option, then close iTunes.
When you open iTunes again, turn this option back off and close iTunes once again.
The next time you open iTunes, try connecting the iPod. Does it work now?
Use CTRL and the , (comma) buttons, to open the Device Preferences shown here:

Hello. I really have a BIG problem or as it seems?!! The problem is that I do not see my ipod on my computer. When I put the CD rom in nothing comes up. I went to My computer and it said install iTunes. When I click to down load ANYTHING type of software that deals with iPod software or iTunes it doesn't finish loading it says "Consult Windows Installer help" or MSDN for more information?? I have 2 other iPods that work perfectly fine with iTunes and other software. One of the iPods had the same problem but I couldn't deal with it anymore so I gave up for about a week and I just put the ipod into the USB2.0 and it was transferring the music. So i tried the same thing with this one and it has been a month and NO change. I also tried deleting iTunes and reinstalling it but it said "Consult Windows Installer help" Im clueless! Let's be real clear here -- are you saying you are using Internet Explorer and when you try and download Mozilla Firefox it gets around 75% through and shuts down?
If so there is something wrong with your computer -- or at least IE. I rarely, if ever, recommend this, but it might be time to reformat your hard drive and reinstall your OS (if you are even thinking about doing this the first thing you must do is back up all your data files, preferably to writable media like DVDR or CDR).
If you have a friend with a computer perhaps you can get them to download both the latest iTunes as well as (more importantly) the latest firmware updater, and then install them on your machine (they can write them to their own CD).
The other thing that occurs to me is you might not be logged in as admin on that computer -- make sure you are doing this and are the only user.
Otherwise my brain is fuzzy right now -- perhaps someone else can jump in after you reply (I'm right in the middle of packing for a cross country move and only able to spend about five minutes a day on this board).
