I don't think I've ever been more frustrated with technology

Yea, I grew up in a Mac household so I was always pretty affectionate towards apple. I am denouncing that because of the iPod. This thing is starting to become more of a hassle than it's worth.
The major problem with it now: iTunes won't recognize it all of a sudden. The iPod has had stupid problems for the past, oh say, 7 months with playing songs smoothly and loading tracks quickly. All I was trying to do this morning was to add a playlist to it. My computer sees it, but doesn't behave normally (which would be to ask what i want to do with it) when I plug it in. When it's not plugged into my computer it occasionally starts normally, but other times it shows the apple logo and then tells me to go to the support website. Wow gee, that's helpful don't you think? Could someone help me where apple has failed (time and time again)?
iPod with Click Wheel Windows XP

The issue could be software or hardware related. What you should try first is running a restore while the ipod is in disk mode. If you do not have the latest ipod updater on your computer, you can download from this link:
http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
To put the ipod into disk mode, connect it to your ac adapter. Once its connected hold down the menu and select button at the same time until the apple logo appears. Once the apple logo appears, release and hold down the select and play/pause button at the same time. What you should see next is 'ok to disconnect' with a check mark on the display screen and disk mode at the top. Once the ipod is in disk mode connect it to your computer (using the back usb ports) and open the ipod updater and run the restore

  • I have never been more frustrated with a website than this one.

This website is utterly the worst labrynth of crap I have ever ever in my entire history of working with the internet have experienced.  Who designed this site? a monkey? THE WORST! THE WORST! THE WORST!  man, I am so angry and frustrated.  This is unbelievable.
Lets make a list shall we:
First apparently I am available for an upgrade.  So I click on upgrade my phone which I guess is what I am to do.  I don't see why I can't just see a list of phones with the corresponding discounts etc. Nope instead I get a pre menu with a picture of my phone and a icon to press upgrade your phone. Wouldn't the designers think that maybe some people might get a little confused.  There is a picture of my phone and it says upgrade your phone.  Why not be clear? "This is the phone you have" then put "click here to see what upgrades are available to you."  I know Im not the smartest guy in the planet but geez the webdesigners were perhaps too familiar with their own site and didn't put it together for the laymen.
So then I go to the site and guess what? There are no discounts shown, there are no upgrades readily availble for me to see. Instead is a list of phones for full price.  Is that the upgrade I am availble for? A phone for full price? This is absurd.
You would think that a multi-billion dollar corporation that has made its money on being the leader of wireless technology WOULD FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO A WEBSITE THAT A USER COULD USE!
Oh and then wanting to email someone about my experience.  Nope cant just contact through email. You have to put a preselected question for your email that just takes you right back to the FAQs.  Wow! that is convenient!!!.  To actually contact someone you have to put your stupid complaint on a forum but in order to do that you have to go through the complete hassel of logging in AGAIN, then I need to put some stupid code in from my email.  Do you guys just make it difficult so that people will just give up and not complain?  That doesn't seem like good customer service to me.  Sticking your fingers in your ears screaming lalalalala via making it too complicated and time consuming so that customers don't have a voice is no way to help customers.
And then trying to add a comment on the "suggestions thread" there are no options to post a comment on that one.  You guys sure seem like you know what your doing.  Maybe you can hire my mother who can barely send an email to design your site, she might do a better job.
So I guess my suggestion is to fire the webdesigner and put together a more cohesive, effecient website please.

Im on firefox. Another poster told me how to email - it wasn't straight forward for me - which in my opinion should be.  This site is organized really badly, in my opinion.  Like I stated before this is Verizon wireless - this site should be hands down one of the best out there - instead its clunky and redundant.   I want a ferrari and they are giving me a 1982 rusted out pontiac - yeah it works but not that well.
As for the upgrades and pricing - shouldn't that be something that is on the site.  I am available for an upgrade and if I want to order a phone I should be able to see how much its going to cost me. And if Im not mistaken they used to do that.  To me, just doesn't make any sense to not include the pricing.  Doesn't that seem ineffecient? "your available for an upgrade - check our site for your upgrades - oh we don't have the prices that it will cost you - you have to call in.
And what doe "new for every 2" actually mean?  They don't really explain that.  Do I get a brand new phone of my choosing for free? Catchy slogans don't necessarily inform the customers and thats whats a little disappointing to me.
    Sorry for my blather.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

Restore from iCloud backup if shed has one.
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

I dont recall when I have been more frustrated....  the "loops" I am in on the web for support are endless.  After downloading Yosemite on my Mac my CS6 no longer works.  On your support web site you state the following for downloading and installing previous versions of apps, such as CS6 " 1. open CC for desktop and go to the apps panel (no link is provided so I explored until I could download a trial version of "application manager" as that was required.  When I attempted to open it to download "Previous Versions" I could not.  I have my license number, my CS6 will not open in Yosemite and after over 2 hours I am really frustrated....  Rich@

When I go to that link, download and then attempt to install I get the message "Webe encountered the following issues, Installer failed to initialize.  Please down load Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem"  I then select the link "get adobe support advisor" that takes me to a site that describes a better support link since the one I have been sent to is no longer available.  I then go to that site and am told to go to CC for desktop apps, that requires me to download CC...  I don't want CC.. just want to have my CS6 PS work again....  so frustrating...

Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean reinstall.
Install the new version that you have downloaded.

  • I don't think anyone has ever heard of this problem.

I just got a brand spankin new ipod fifth generation 2 GB nano yesterday and there have been several problems with it. First, my ipod came with no instructions. It was unusually hard to set up, but here is the most apparent. I got the 'Do not Disconnect' sign on my ipod and it disappeared and my ipod turned on so I went on ahead and disconnected it. Then it froze and then the computer froze and now my clueless stepdad is trying to fix it! He has absolutely no idea what he is doing! I need help fast- please.

This is not a job, the point is that we are here voluntarily. We aren't responsible for answering everyone's questions all of the time. It's a favor we do for other users and for Apple.
Not only that it's Xmas and not many people are here.

  • I don't think I've ever complained about apple - but wow...

Logic 8! Not to sure about this.
Having used PT, Nuendo, and SX, the drum machine and sampler (samples are horrible) and you would think they would be better - - I know good samples when I hear them, EWQLSO, VSL, and these are terrible. And why do they tout SOUNDTRACK as sound design. SOUND DESIGN IS something like FX EXTREME - wow, 5 years and nothing even close to having any of these (sound design plug ins, drum machine, guitar sim not even that good), and I still can't get LOGIC to see Drum Core or any REASON rewire device.
Maybe I just don't know it well enough yet - but for the most part, I never EVER had to pick up a manual for a DAW. Never. And this version is supposed to be easier to use - and yes I remember 5.5 it was pathetic just to hook up a virtual synth.
Any tips or advice, including but not limited too, suggestions, greatly appreciated.
First complaint ever. And why can you double click on a track and have it open the channel strip?
    Things they need to do:
    • Create great drum machine similar to strike (DIGI) but sound like Drum Core
    • Design a good sound design device ala FX Extreme
    • Create a good Guitar/Bass sim. The pro is very noisy and does not sound that good.
Maybe I need more time, so we'll see but so far....hmmmmm.

Okay, I have almost 200 posts, you have 12? Troll alert?
    Indeed.
Anyway, yes I have used Logic Express, but always found it limiting,
I also have BFD, and DKFH, the beauty about STRIKE is in its design, one key and instant round robin,
even if you select one patch, it won't sound the same, hit another key and poof a new fill.
    Okay, so a few things.
I opened mainstage, much better samples...I also had all the jam packs before.
Also, does the NODE thing really help or is there latency involved? Other computer at home is on network, using a MBP 2.2, would I be better of getting a new MINI Duo core 2, will this help?
I set up a template and used 5 tracks to record and it was a hip hop type and the CPU was almost spiked, wondering if NODE would really help. Anyway, starting to become more impressed.
    Now a few things.
Can you record the MAIN STAGE?
Also, if I have a project open in Sound Track pro, my performance track that I imported is a bit off (midi instruments bounced to AIFF) and was wondering either in Logic or Soundtrack, is there a way to take a beat I like and found in Sound Track Pro 2, and somehow use its beat map and apply it to my performance so it's just as tight?
Thanks...its getting better the more I use it.
Also sounds better than Logic 7. There is a performance done at gearslutz, 7 vs 8 same song, 8 for sure sounds better.
Regarding AUDIO, I have scored trailers and produced sample libraries for Sony.
And hoping this is the new way and away from Pro Fools.
    Thanks

  • I don't think I will ever get the download done...

My internet connection is a not-very-reliable 4Mbps ADSL (and there's not many faster or better options where I live).   I've started the ML download more times than I can remember over the last few days, and every time something knocks it over before it gets to the end.  I've switched off all the screensaver and powersaving options,  but I cannot do anything about power or network outages.
It's never been as difficult as this before - I seem to remember it used to be possible to restart a broken download somehow. Where did that go?  Also, there seems to be no indication of % or MB downloaded so far - just a very very slow worm on the M-Lion icon in the Lunchpad.
I'm using a late 2009 Mac Mini and I don't want to cart it and the monitor/keyboard/trackpad to the local Apple store where they don't have a network connection much better than mine.
Has the App Store been dumbed down to a non-functional status?

According to this article, an interrupted download will resume automatically:'

  • I have had my iphone 5 stolen and last backed up approx. 2 months ago. I don't think I've ever gone through and set up PhotoStream however it has always appeared on my phone. Is there any way of getting back messages/photos/etc from the past 2 months?

I have had my iphone 5 stolen/have lost my iphone 5. I haven't backed it up for a while (2 months?!) and I am not sure that I actually set up  Photostream however it's always been on there from what I can tell (icon is there). Is there anyway of getting back contacts/messages/photos/anything from the phone onto my new replacement phone if it hadn't been backed up recently? I've got everything up until the last backup - contacts and messages aren't such an issue for me but the photos mean a lot!!!

If you are logged in to icloud with your same Apple ID. Go to setting on your phone>Photos & Camera and turn ON my Photo Stream.

  • I have no refresh button on my firefox toolbar and i don't think i have ever had one. How can I get it? I am really desperate for it.

I have never needed one to use it until yesterday. The message i had on the screen was "An error occured while getting the documents. Please refresh the page and try again" So i have no refresh button. I have tried View-toolbars-costumise and there is refresh icon there. Again i tried F5 and Ctrl + r nothing worked. I have 3.6 firefox. Thanks

Thanks to salgud, I learned that the partial circle arrow at the right of the URL (address box), & the left of the google box, is now the refresh icon.

  • TS1389 I had an hotmail account many years ago, and since then got a yahoo account.  I tried to play a song that was purchased on hotmail, however I don't think that account exists any more and I can't play those songs?

I had a hotmail account many years ago and purchased several ITunes.  I found some of those old songs and tried to play them but needed authorization to do so.  It keeps putting up this old account, and the passwords keeps coming up wrong?  Since I don't use that old account, it is no longer in use.  I do have a new Yahoo account with I Tunes, but won't let me use it for the old songs.

  • I have never been so frustrated with Apple in my life!

I am disgusted. Not just by the issues I've got with wifi, but with Apple's lack of response and fixes.
Since installing Yosemite I have had massive wifi issues - to the point where I now have had to dish out £50 on a long ethernet cable and ethernet to thunderbolt adapter just so I can get paid!
There are only 2 things I need to work - my mac, and internet. So thanks a lot Apple, my trust in you as a company has been chipped away a lot over the past week because the tech I rely on to make a living is broken.
With no answers, and no fixes I now need to figure out how to downgrade back to Mavericks - more time lost.
I appreciate everyone posting their fixes on here, but honestly most of them don't make sense to me - I have been desparately waiting for a Yosemite update, but I now think going back to Mavericks is my only choice.

I understand it's very disappointing when an upgrade brings you serious trouble. It seems you depend on this machine for work and income?
    In that case:
Rule number one = Never update on a first release!
I can't remember having seen any first release ever that was totally free of bugs. So if your income depends on it, you better wait untill the second update (so 10.2). You seem to be mad at Apple because they haven't fixed the problems yet? Come on. Yosemite was released on 16th, that's two weeks ago. The first update takes usually a few weeks longer.
Rule number two: Never upgrade without having a complete backup of your Mac. If you have to figure out how to downgrade to mavericks, you probably haven't done that. If you had, downgrading would have been a piece of cake. At least backup all your data before you do downgrade to mavericks.
You can find several topics here on how to downgrade your mac.
    Good luck!

  • I am having so many problems with my ipads and my computers since I upgraded to Yosemite on my desktop!  I have never been so frustrated with Apple.  My apple at work also has a virus problem and my other MAC keeps rebooting!!  My MAC at home burned

Problems with Yosemite: virus (malware), rebooting, burned hard drive, ipads keep losing wifi.

You're going to have to be more specific about the symptoms you're seeing. At the moment, I really have almost no idea at all what's going on. Also, be aware that upgrading your Mac to Yosemite has no effect whatsoever on your iPads.
If you're having a lot of ad problems or redirects in the web browsers on all these devices, you probably have some kind of network compromise, such as hacked network hardware:

  • Minor Fan Noise (not typical, I don't think)

Have a new 13" macbook pro (june '09). The noise I'm hearing is not the typical HD "beep" noises or high pitched whines or any of that. It's a very subtle noise, seemingly from the fans. It sounds like a clock ticking at a faster rate. There's no vibration to the laptop or anything. I tried using compressed air at the exhaust but nothing. Help?

Hi there, I have the exact same model and this is exactly how I would describe the sound made by my Pro. I think it is actually giving me tinnitus.
It seems silly mentioning it as the level of sound is so low but it really does cut through me like a knife. In my case I would say that the noise is emanating from the far left side of the body, near the escape key. It is so subtle that the angle of my head affects to a large degree my perception of the sound. But once you notice it you become obsessed by it.
I also started telling myself that it has always made this sound but I honestly don't think I would have lasted 3 months with it were that the case.
I assumed it was the processor but I have no idea where that would be within the casing of the macbook so don't know if that is likely or not.
Does is the fast ticking clock sound constant or intermittent in your case? Mine is intermittent but the gaps in the ticking are brief, less than a second.
