I have a 2.33 ghz processor macbook pro. From what I heard most people say it is impossible to upgrade the processor because it is soldered into the motherboard or something. I'm not a big computer upgrading kind of guy if you know what I mean, but I was just wondering if there was anyway possible around this soldering deal. I guess really what I want to know is if there are any people out there skilled enough with upgrading macbook pros that they have found a way to upgrade the processor. Or if it is still physically impossible is there anything apple can actually do to help upgrade... for instance a trade in or maybe they could upgrade....maybe i'm SOL but it was worth a try.
Another question... Say I couldn't upgrade my macbook, how much would anybody think I could get for my mbp? I've got leopard and some pretty expensive apps like photoshop, rosetta stone, final cut pro, microsoft office, and iwork 08.
You are definitely SOL. You cannot upgrade the CPU. It requires more than simply the ability to unsolder a chip as the motherboard is multi-layered, a specialized tool would be needed to both remove the existing CPU and replace it, and it could only be replaced with one that is exactly pin compatible. By the time you had this done professionally (assuming you could even find someplace that would do it) the cost would probably be greater than selling your old model and buying a newer one. Furthermore, if the motherboard were damaged you'd now be out the computer (no warranty coverage.)
eBay is your best source for information on selling used computers. Note that if you sell the computer with the software you must also include the original software installation discs. It is illegal to sell the computer with the software and not include the original software discs (for the computer, Rosetta Stone, FCP, Office, etc.) You cannot install that software on another Mac simultaneously because that violates the software license.

Trying to give a logo some 3D elements, but I don't think this is possible with Ai? Pictures inside.
Hello, I've set out to give this logo some 3D elements for some pop. I don't want to just extrude the thing as if it was a cylinder, I want to extrue the Triniti symbol, circles, as well as the black and green quadrants in some way. Not exactly sure, but I'll figure that out later. Afterwards I will possibly be dropping the logo into Aftereffects and making some kind of animated 3D intro with it. Here is the logo:
So I took a png of the logo, auto traced the image in illustrator, and used the 3D extrude effect. This was the result:
Obviously not what I'm looking for. Even if I only extruded parts of the logo, the behavior of the 3D effect would never give me what I'm looking for. Looking at tutorials, the extude effect seems to only be good for text and non layered shapes.
What I'm trying to accomplish is something that I could see working just fine in some kind of CAD software like Solidworks. I would just select the features I want, and extrude them as I desired. I do have access that piece of software, but I feel like that is a wierd work around, and I would have problems when it came time to apply the proper colors, and when I would bring the logo back into after effects for animation.
I also tried dropping the logo into After Effects directly and did the whole "convert shapes from vector layer" and using ray tracing tried extruding it there, but I can only extrude the entire logo, not individual parts.
I'm stumped on a good way to go about what I want to do. Any suggestions?
Thanks.Divide the logo into groups (or layers to help AE later), and run an individual 3D Extrude (applying same rotation settings) on each group for better control.
Trinity symbol will be the toughest, because of weave. You can try a seperate chunk for the overlap and bring to front.
If you have trouble keeping the elements in register, make a dummy rectangle larger than the logo, and fill with none and copy into each group for a consistent bounding box. -

How can this be fixed if it can be fixed? No bugs or viruses are on the computer as far as I know. All other applications work perfectly on the laptop, so it is strange that the Safari continues to closedown. I can use Safari and it does work for the majority of time, but there are times when the Safari closes out.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)

Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful. -
I gave up on getting a single SQL to do this; I don't think it's possible?

I asked a little while ago about a loyalty points system where the loyalties could not be revoked once awarded, so any refunds would make the points system "go into debt" internally and only start issuing loyalty points when the debt was cleared. Got an excellent SQL to do just that, and then they switched requirements on me.
Now, loyalty points can be revoked at any time. It might be that on the 10th Sept a refund transaction dated in MARCH will be inserted that effectively wipes some loyalty points off the balance.. So I'm thinking that I have to mark transactions with a date of when they were used to create (or revoke) points
I'm wondering if someone will sense check my logic and confirm that there isnt a way to do this with read-only SQLs:
An UPDATE query runs, looking for transactions that have not already participated in the points scheme (points_date is null), and meet certain criteria, and setting their points_date to the current trunc(sysdate) -- this ensures that a transaction inserted in retrospect (i.e. inserted long after the date the transaction occurred) will have an effect on points
An hour later a select query runs on all transactions that have a points_date that is not null, grouping up by the card number (cards earn points) and the value of all transactions is summed. Transactions are classed according to their points_date; those that have a points_date before today contribute to the previous_total_spend and all transactions contribute to the current_total_spend. Because there is 1 point for every $10 spent, the amounts are divided by 10, and then FLOORed/CEILed to provide a quantized representation of the number of points a card had yesterday and what is has today. The delta of the number of points from previous to current represents the number of points that should be awarded or revoked.
I have to sum all transactions for all time rather than just do a simplistic "divide every tran by 10 then floor and thats the number of points" because customers who always spent 9.99 wouldnt accumulate any points ever when the should be entitled to one point upon their second purchase (taking their spend to 19.98)
Here's an example code for you to play with; can someone check I've got this right/the maths is robust and if there was a way to do this in a one-step SELECT without the update (I don't see how retrospective transactions could be included properly) let me know?

With the way Apple is going, all New Mac computers are sealed unit that don't allow the user to upgrade them in any way. They are getting more expensive initially. They are impossible to fix, even by Apple. All the parts are either soldered to the Logic Board or glued inside the case parts. The add on warranty only covers manufacturing defects and is expensive. And to fix one out of waranty is close to if not more then a new system.
The only thing different in a Mac, and most other products Apple sells, is the operating system and the cases they come in. As for the OS both have their glitches and at this time there are no viruses that infect OS X. There is more software available for Windows. More choices as to what hardware you can use or upgrade to at a later date.
Mac computers are becoming large iPads or iPhones with built in keyboards.

I have around 30 tabs opened. Firefox is using 1.9 Gigabytes of memory according to windows task manager. This is slowing down browsing as well as my computer in general. Text entry is also slow within the browser. I am using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit OS. I have an AMD Phenom 9850 Quad core 2.5 Ghz with 8GB memory. Computer is very advanced and modern, should be lightning fast but slows way down when using firefox, no doubt from the 1.9Gb memory being used. Browsing is slow and sluggish as is switching between tabs and other general computing tasks.

Just wanted to get your opinion.
This comment applies to malicious software ("malware") that's installed unwittingly by the victim of a network attack. It does not apply to software, such as keystroke loggers, that may be installed deliberately by an attacker who has hands-on access to the victim's computer. That threat is in a different category, and there's no easy way to defend against it. If you have reason to suspect that you're the target of such an attack, you need expert help.
All versions of OS X since 10.6.7 have been able to detect known Mac malware in downloaded files. The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders. In most cases, there’s no benefit from any other automated protection against malware.
Starting with OS X 10.7.5, there is another layer of built-in malware protection, designated "Gatekeeper" by Apple. By default, applications that are downloaded from the network will only run if they're digitally signed by a developer with a certificate issued by Apple. Applications certified in this way haven't actually been tested by Apple (unless they come from the Mac App Store), but you can be sure that they haven't been modified by anyone other than the developer, and his identity is known, so he could be held responsible if he knowingly released malware. For most practical purposes, applications recognized by Gatekeeper as signed can be considered safe. Note, however, that there are some caveats concerning Gatekeeper:
It doesn't apply to software that comes packaged as an installer. Treat all third-party installers with caution.
It can be disabled or overridden by the user.
It can be bypassed by some third-party networking software, such as BitTorrent clients and Java applets (see below.)
It only applies to applications downloaded from the network. Software installed from a CD or other media is not checked.

Notwithstanding the above, the most effective defense against malware attacks is your own intelligence. All known malware on the Internet that affects a fully-updated installation of OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of so-called "trojan horses," which can only have an effect if the victim is duped into running them. If you're smarter than the malware attacker thinks you are, you won't be duped. That means, primarily, that you never install software from an untrustworthy source. How do you know a source is untrustworthy?
Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown one, is untrustworthy.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim. [Some reputable websites did legitimately warn users who were infected with the "DNSChanger" malware. That exception to this rule no longer applies.]
“Cracked” copies of commercial software downloaded from a bittorrent are likely to be infected.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. No intermediary is acceptable.
Java on the network (not to be confused with JavaScript, to which it's not related) is always a potential weak spot in the security of any operating system. If a Java web plugin is not installed, don't install it unless you really need it. If it is installed, you should disable it (not JavaScript) in your web browsers. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This setting is mandatory in OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, because Java in those obsolete versions has known security flaws that make it unsafe to use on the Internet. The flaws will never be fixed. Regardless of version, experience has shown that Java can never be fully trusted, even if no vulnerabilities are publicly known at the moment.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can reasonably be.
Never install any commercial "anti-virus" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use the free software ClamXav — nothing else. -
Question? When I try to send out email on my ad address, it goes to the outbox and stays there. The message is something like, you have exceeded your limit on messages so your message will be stored in the outbox. I don't send more than 30 emails a day, and i use two other email addresses. What can I do?
Change the password on that e-mail account. It's possible that your account has been hacked/spoofed and spammers have used it to blast out junk, leaving you to 'pay the price'. If it's one where you can contact the company, contact them and ask them what's going on. (if this is g-mail, yahoo, hotmail, don't bother, there's no way to contact any sort of support)

Handling events in subvis - think this should work but it doesn't.
In part of a large project I need to handle key down events, but elsewhere I need to handle them differently and want to be able to dynamically register and unregister them in each location. I also want to be able to put one of the event handlers in a subvi. To quote the Help system, "Dynamically Registering Events: With dynamic registration, you can handle events in a subVI rather than only in the VI where the events are generated."
ViThatHandlesEvents.vi handles key down events. It uses dynamic event registration to demonstrate that it works (though in this simple example it isn't necessary).
ViContainingSubviThatHandlesEvents registers key down events and passes this to KeyDnEventHndlrSubVI. I thought it would work but it doesn't.

As you noted, this will have the event structure respond to keypresses whenever the parent VI is active. You can simplify the subVI by simply wiring the "VI Refnum" terminal directly to the Register for Events node. Getting the Panel, and then the Owning VI simply gets you back to where you started.
That's a valid way of doing it, and I'm assuming that this is intended to be a test case. As you noted you have a large project, so I don't know what your overall architecture is, or how you intend to use this technique, so I can't really say whether it's a "good" approach. It's an approach.
Say, I should have said this before, but you have to be pretty good to answer the question somebody should be asking, especially in brief forum postings.

For some reason my son and my grand daughter's information has been linked. Now when I get text messages from my grand daughter the texts have my son's name on them and sometimes it's hard to tell who I'm talking to. I have tried sending messages directly to my grand daughter (as opposed to responding to her text) but she never gets them - UNLESS I send to my son's name. It's just too confusing. Now that I have an iPad all my email accounts (work, home, iCloud) have been linked and when I try to message myself at work (as a reminder) all the messages are going to the iCloud account and never show up in my work email. This is very irritating and I can't figure out how to fix it.
First make sure Settings > Facebook > Contacts is turned off. Tis might be different from what you described in your question.
Then open your Contacts app and check carefully what is there for your son and grand daughter's contact info. Correct if necessary. -

You can edit slideshow hero images with thumbnails and captions through In browser editing. Are you facing any issue while editing those ?

But laptop's hard drive doesn't enough to store all songs in my desktop.
And I want iTunes library in my laptop and desktop share their stars, play counts, and so on.
So, can my laptop's iTunes library synchronized with that in my desktop?
I can't turn on my desktop all day cause it's getting hot day by day and my desktop consumes lots of energy.
