I don't want firefox to restore sessions

All I read about is how to keep pages and restore - I DO NOT WANT THAT - when I close a page or tab I want it to be gone. This is a violation of my privacy!

  • When Firefox crashes and I restart my Mac, it automatically restores the pages I had open before the crash. I don't want it to restore sessions. How can I disable that?

When Firefox gets hung up, I do a force quit. Then when I restart my Mac, it tries to restore all the sessions I had open before the crash. It doesn't crash often but every time it crashes, it does the automatic session restoration. The crash happens when I haven't shut down my computer for a day or two; it's like Firefox just gets tired and needs to be refreshed. It doesn't seem to matter what windows I had open. I have a MacBook Pro 10.6.8.

We close all applications before we power down the system.  There is nothing open before we turn it off yet the same boxes open when we turn it back on.

  • I don't want Firefox to launch every time my computer starts

Every time I restart my computer Firefox launches. How do I disable this? I don't want Firefox to launch ever time my computer reboots. Firefox is not my default browser. Safari is.

    See:

    * Control-click on its Dock icon and uncheck 'Open at Login'
    Or:
    * Click Accounts (in the System row of the System Preferences window)
** Click the Login Items tab
** Click on Firefox in the list
** Click the Minus (-) button

I don't want firefox to remember my log in on Facebook. But I accidently hit remember. How do I change that?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

    A. Delete the Password:
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Remembering+passwords#Viewing_and_deleting_passwords
    B. Add Password Exception:
    1. Go to Facebook and log in. When Firefox asks you if you want to save this password, select '''Never for this Site''' . See the attached screenshot.

  • I don't want firefox to reopen old windows when it restarts

On the rare occasions when Firefox crashes and I restart it I often end up getting the same problem that led to the initial crash because Firefox tries to restore all the windows from the previous session. I looked in the preferences but couldn't find a way to change this behavior. I don't want it to try and re-open old windows when it restarts, just go to my home page and let me reopen windows manually. Can I set that somehow?

I am not a computer programmer and don't remember whatever I may have learned in DOS classes... When I open Firefox it goes DIRECTLY to a page that crashes my computer: originally I had to TURN OFF my computer to get out of it. NOW Mozilla Firefox goes directy to that page again, does not ask if I WANT to restore that session.
I am thinking I will just DELETE all of Firefox from the Program menu
and then reload if I get around to it

  • I want Firefox to restore my McAfee security deleted by Firefox 5

I accepted Firefox 5 last night, but after it was almost installed the screen said McAfee securit 3.3.1 was incompatible. I tried to click off the installation, but it installed anyway, so now I have NO SECURITY. If Firefox cannot get me update, or orient me on how to do it, I want my previous version of Firefox restored. I don't want to use the Internet without my security server. I have been waiting for about 12 hours now. Please resolve ASAP. Thank you if there is anybody who can do something instead of just chatting and chatting (or not saying anything).

Okay, first of all you should relax a bit. Just because your McAfee security plugin is disabled because it's not made for firefox 5 doesn't mean that your computer is in danger. This is just a browser plugin we're talking about here.
Next thing you should probably contact McAfee support if they have an update available that works with firefox 5.
If you want further help here you should try to explain your problem a bit more detailed, like what exactly this plugin is, what it does and where you got it from.
    Best regards

  • Tabs lost after Firefox crashed; Restore Session page doesn't load

Firefox 6.02 has been restoring previous sessions fine.
    But...
When I had multiple tabs open in multiple tab groups, Firefox started slowing down. This was probably due to too many tabs opened. Eventually, Firefox crashed. Normally, under my settings Firefox launches the Restore Session page. However, this time it somehow bypassed the Restore Session page and took me straight to my home page. All my pinned tabs and tabs in tab groups were lost.
This is the second time I'm experiencing this problem in two different machines, where one was running XP and the other was running Windows 7 x64.
How do I restore my tabs? I need these tabs really bad...

You thought that, it was a bug.

BUT, For me it was not bug. it was very good for me.
i want "Well this is embarrassing...." page AGAIN.

  • I don't want Firefox to "remember" the folders I've saved in from websites before. How do I return Firefox to its old image saving habits?

I recently got a new computer and upgraded to Firefox 8. Now, when I save an image from a website, Firefox will "remember" and, the next time I save an image, open a random folder that I saved an image in last time I was on that site, and choose to save it there. This wouldn't be a problem if, 1) it wasn't a random folder out of the several I save into, and 2), if I have to cancel out of an image for any reason, the next time I go to save (seconds later, without refreshing/leaving a page), it will have chosen another random folder for me to save in and I'm misplacing my files.
I'd like to return Firefox to the previous image saving habits, where I have to choose the folder each time, and it doesn't "remember" anything that I've done, as it is only causing headaches.

I have been frustrated by the same aggravating Firefox 8 "improvement".
I have several hard drives, several partitions on each hard drive, hundreds of folders on in each partition, and hundreds of subfolders below them. When I am researching something, I download whole Web pages, PDFs, JPEGs, FLVs, and many other files from all over the Web. It is totally frustrating to be taken to different drives all over my computer each time I want to download a new file to the same folder I jut downloaded to. I have to drill up and down drives and folders to get back to where I was.
In previous versions of Firefox, Save As opened in the last folder I saved to, and all I had to do was create a file name and hit Save. In Firefox 8 I am taken to some totally unrelated subfolder on some totally unrelated drive. The folder in which I last downloaded a file from Wikipedia, Fox News, BBC , Flicker, or any other URL usually has absolutely nothing to do with what I am presently researching.
Why would anyone want to make the default download be the desktop? Total clutter and confusion. All I want Firefox to do when I hit the Save As button is to open the same folder I last downloaded '''''anything''''' to irregardless of the URL.
Is there some way via modifying the about:config file that I can change this behavior of Firefox 8?

  • I don't want Firefox to be my main browser or automatically open when I click on a link from my emails, how do I disable this?

When I click on a link from my emails it opens automatically through firefox. I want to disable this feature as I would like to go back to Chrome. I don't want to uninstall Firefox all together but I don't want it to be my main browser either.
    Thank you

The only way to have such links not open Firefox is to set another browser the default browser.
That MozillaZine Knowledge Base article shows how to set another browser like IE as the default browser.
    See Setting default browser manually:

  • I don't want Firefox silently updating add-ons.

I want Firefox 4 to behave like how 3.6 did with add-on updates, or at least similar to it. More, I want it to notify me when an add-on has an update, so then either I can update it. Or, simply notify me that an add-on is updating.
I noticed a menu in the Add-on manager with a check mark on "Update Add-Ons Automatically". If I have that turned off, will Firefox notify me of add-on updates?

I have the "Ask me what I want to do" thing checked. I still don't get notified of updates for add-ons. I'm pretty sure that option is for Firefox updates...

  • I don't want Firefox to update.

    I installed FF 28.
During the installation, I disabled the suto-updater.
At first run, I dsiabled it AGAIN in the config.
And still, it auto-updated to 30.
So, I uninstalled and reinstalled 28.
    And AGAIN it's updated automatically.
    I don't care about ESR.
I don't want to update to the new graphical style.
I don't care if 28 has exploits. EVERY PROGRAM HAS HOLES AND CAN BE EXPLOITED!
So, I'd be grateful if anyone could explain to me why the program updated even after I set it to NOT do it.
    Twice.

    Please do the following
Go to your "Options" then under "Advance" tab you will find at the top a tab "Update" there you will find all the options.
If you turn it off there and it doesn't want to work then i suggest looking for viruses.

  • Firefox crashes; restore session unretrievable?

Hi. The other day my laptop ran out of power. I had my one, "main" firefox window up and running, and was just preparing to close the window and shut down the computer... but before I could exit (so firefox could save my tabs) it shut off.
The next time I opened firefox, expecting it to have recovered my session (and my tab groups!!) as it usually does, I didn't even get the restore window (about:sessionrestore) ... just the old homepage. All of my tab groups disappeared as well, and I thought... "this doesn't look good."
Searching around all afternoon on a public forum or two, I found information on the session.bak file - so I searched my computer for it, and found it.
NOW... when I open this file...(in mozilla firefox) I get a pile of HTML on a page --- and have no clue what to do from here. I believe that the session.bak file (dated just prior to the crash/laptop shut off) actually contains everything. I just don't know what to do from here!
    Can someone help?
