I don't want IE installed

Ok why is it needed to have IE installed on my Windows 7 computer?
I had windows IE uninstalled on another partition and a while after I started getting issues with skype. I don't use this partition much but then I started to investigate the issues. I tried uninstalling skype etc etc nothing. I then enabled IE and still the same. Windows found an update to IE I installed rebooted and all the issues had gone and skype could load. I don't want that browser I don't like it I don't see why it is needed for skype to work! I don't have IE on my android phone but that works!.
I am slowly trying to move to other messengers permanetly because of stuff like this..

You cannot really uninstall IE, it is a core component of windows. You do not need to use it, however a lot of other programs uses functionallity from IE, amogst them Skype.
All OS'es works like this, there is really no point in writing your own renderer when one is provided for you in the OS.
Until August, if you still wants to use Windows (Skype runs on Linux aswell as OSX), you're stuck with IE integration until Spartan comes out, and still then the mshtml (Trident) renderer will be used for Skype not the edgehtml Spartan engine.

How do I turn off 'additional plug-ins' pop-up reminder? When I'm surfing websites or Facebook, for example, I keep getting the little pop-up, that reduces my screen size, saying additional plug-ins are available to play all content. I don't want them installed! Audio and video ads are annoying. If I want it I'll click it.

IMac Desktop computer >OS X Updates Avail Banner - How to stop?  I don't want to install Mavericks.  Did Apple>Sys Pref>Notifications: None for iTunes, Safari, Mail but Banner still popping up.  Thanks for any help.

I have tried unchecking the "Automatically check for updates" in the Software Update control panel. Of course, then you have to remember to check manually periodically for security updates etc. So far, the annoying banners seem to have stopped, but maybe just because I have not waited long enough for them to come back.

  • Downloaded ios 6 to iphone but don't want to install.  How do i remove download from phone.  Takes up too much room.

The ios 6 download takes up too much room.  I don't want to install it, but I don't know how to get rid of the download.  Any way to get rid if it?

There is no way to get rid of it now that it is earmarked for the phone. I can respect your choice to hold to Maps, but you will need to install eventually. While this may not matter to you, the Maps app has worked fine for me, however I live in the US and that could make a difference.

  • Ios6 automatically DL'ed onto my iphone 4 and is taking up too much space (I don't want to install).

How can I remove the ~2.2Gb of "other" data that I assume is ios6 install files?  I have no photos or music on my 8Gb phone and having a quarter of my phone full already with crap I don't want is frustrating.
Yesterday I actually downloaded and installed ios6, found out how crappy it was, and then reverted back to 5.1.1.  I want nothing to do with ios6, including the install files.
    Thanks,
    Alex

I am having this problem as well.... when iOS6 went live, my iPhone4 rebooted itself in the middle of the night (I was awake) and then automatically downloaded the ~2.5 GB iOS6 installer, which in Settings it says is downloaded and ready to install - but gives no way to say no or delete it. I also tried using iExplore but Apple doesn't put it as an App, it has some special hidden system folder that there's apparently no way to see except jailbreaking it.
Someone on Twitter said you have to restore... but if I do that I'll lose everything I've done since my last backup AND it will just auto-download again. I don't want iOS6 - Apple bricked my iPhone 3G with iOS4, but more importantly, I live in a city and use/rely on those public transportation directions and accurate maps - neither of which exist in that disaster than is iOS6.
This really ****** me off & inconviences me because it cuts my available space on my phone IN HALF. Not to mention I never agreed to it or wanted it. AND I have limited bandwidth / Comcast gets mad at me if I use too much. WTH

  • How can I stop Firefox from asking me over and over (even on pages with no flash content) to install Flash? I don't want Flash installed and this stupid pop-up.

So even when I load up websites (like ones we here at my job have created) with very simple HTML and absolutely nothing Flash related, I still get a pop-up asking me to install flash (pops down from the URL bar at left.) How can I stop this without disabling all plug-in updates?
Moreover, why in the name of all that's good is it asking me about Flash when I have no pages open with anything remotely Flash like on them?
Thanks to anyone who can answer.

I do not see why this should happen because of Firefox. Maybe you have some sort of adware on your system.
Please attach a screenshot of the popup

Try Firefoxin safe mode to rule out your standard extensions. if that does not solve the problem then scan for malware with multiple and up-to-date tools.
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]

[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

  • Don't want to install software update when I restart

I'm not interested in upgrading to Yosemite from Mavericks. I must have clicked on the wrong button and downloaded new software, because my mid 2009 MacBook Pro says it's ready to install new software when I restart. How can I undue this so that when I restart I don't install the software waiting to be installed? Thanks.

Right after you restart the computer by ready to hit COMMAND-Q as soon as you see the installer appear. If it hasn't already started in the background you may get out before it starts the installation. If not, then welcome to Yosemite. Really, it's not that bad.

  • Apps don't want to install

Hi all.  I need to ask a quick question.  my daughter got a new ipod touch and for the past few months hasn't had any problems downloading songs or apps.  but yesterday she tried to download an app, and it looked like it was going to work, and the ipod went back to the home screen and showed the icon with "waiting" but in a few seconds the whole thing just disappeared.  Then we tried to do her updates and the same thing happened.  All the apps went dark and the working bars showed up and then poof the bars were all gone and nothing was updated.  Any ideas on what she might have done that would cause her ipod to no longer donwload apps or updates?  If you all need any more info let me know.  Thanks in advance!

You can change the install location in the CC app preference settings. Just be aware that the CC app itself and certain shared components will always be installed on the system root drive regardless of this setting.

  • I don't want to install flash. how can i get rid of the message telling me i need to install it?

the bar that comes down saying "additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page." i want to disable it. what do?

Did you get any help on this? From what I can see from surfing this site, it's a BUG that no one has offered a solution to. It sometimes happens after a 'reset' and going to ITunes does not offer a way to 'set up push notifications'.

  • HP Mini 110-1033ca don't want to install the IDT Audio Drivers.

    Hello everyone.
I brought a new HP Mini 110-1033ca from Casco in Canada when i visited my Godmother. Now i am back home in Germany and i installed Vista on it.
Everything got discovered properly and everything works. Except the Audio!
I downloaded the IDT Drivers on the HP Webpage and installed them as told in the instructions. But after starting the Setup with the IDT Splash Screen an Error Message came up saying, The detected Hardware is not supported by this IDT-Softwarepackage. Now i redownloaded it and tried it several times, but always the same Message. I even tried to install the Drivers from the swsetup folder manually with the Device Manager but the Device Manager says, the operation was just denied.
Now i was pretty much confused what to do.. I looked up several things in the Internet, tried different Drivers and stuff, i really tried everything i can imagine to get this baby to work, but i couldn't figure it out how to get the Audio Device run.
I have no idea how to fix it, because the Drivers from the HP page which are for this Netbook tell me they aren't so please, if you have any idea please help me.
Thank you very much and sorry for my bad english (still learning it)

    @Mortlake,
    Hi,
On Your old HDD, on partition C there may be folder SWSetup. There are always all extracted SP files with drivers. If You have it find there audio driver and paste here which was for Your audio (Full name of catalog. Example: Sp23142. Something like this. )

  • I don't want Nokia DAB Radio - stop telling me abo...

Is there a way to permanently stop being advised of particular updates? I don't have a DAB headset and have no intention of getting one. I don't want to install the DAB Radio on my N8 but software update clearly wants me to.
Most software updates give you the option to ignore the update, but I can't see this with Nokia. Other than installing it, is there a way to never see this again?

You have two options, install it and bury it in a folder or just ignore the message about it.
There is nothing more that can be done about it and the update cannot be hidden. If this annoys you contact nokia care and ask for the complaints address.

  • [Solved] something wants to install most of Gnome....

Just went to do an update, and got a bit of a shock. Something has suddenly added a whole slew of gnome dependencies. This is the list of stuff that I never had installed before (and really don't want installed now...):
    gnome-desktop-1:3.8.1-1 gnome-dictionary-3.6.0-2 gnome-font-viewer-3.8.0-1
    gnome-icon-theme-3.8.0-1 gnome-icon-theme-symbolic-3.8.0.1-1 gnome-keyring-3.8.1-1
    gnome-screenshot-3.8.1-1 gnome-search-tool-3.6.0-2 gnome-system-log-3.8.1-1
    gnome-system-monitor-3.8.0-1 gobject-introspection-1.36.0-1
    lib32-pango-1.34.0-1 libgee-0.10.1-1 libgee06-0.6.8-1 libgnome-keyring-3.8.0-1
    libsoup-gnome-2.40.3-1 [removal] libtracker-sparql-0.16.0-4 libusbx-1.0.15-1
Going through my installed packages, these are the only bits of gnome that I currently have installed (I use Xfce):
    gnome-keyring
    gnome-system-monitor
    gnome-utils
    libreoffice-gnome
Something has changed, and I really don't want to install most of gnome. So, how do I track down what has added all this bloat?
Searched the wiki and the forum, but either the topic hasn't come up, or I'm using the wrong search terms....
    Paul.

Trilby wrote:I'd suspect libreoffice-gnome.  Why use that at all if you don't use gnome?  Libreoffice-gnome depends on gconf, which depends on gtk3, which depends on much of gnome.
I'm not sure - think it may have been my fault. I'll have to check and remove it if I can't find any reason for it being installed.
EDIT: my suspicion is wrong, it's gnome-utils.  Much easier to check with `pacman -S <pkg>` then just say no to install after it lists dependencies.  Gnome-utils isn't even a package, it's a metapackage that includes all kinds of gnome stuff ... again why have this installed if you don't use gnome?
I'd just come to the same conclusion. I have no memory of installing it, though I must have pulled it in at some stage. I'm going to remove it and see if that creates any problems....
