I don't want my recently closed tabs to be saved... Any way to prevent this?

It has been a long time since I have used Firefox (got a Macbook, and for some reason just used Safari for a long time), so please forgive me if I am just missing something in the Firefox settings.
Anywho, I have Firefox set up to not remember my history because I like the privacy it offers. I think it is odd that I have it set up to delete my history, yet when you go to "History", it keeps a list of all my closed tabs... Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of having the browser not save my history?
Is there a way to prevent Firefox from keeping this list of my recently closed tabs?

Note that Firefox keeps a list of one closed window even with browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo set to 0, so you may have to open another window with one tab and close this window to purge websites from this list.

  • The new version has made it hard to easily view recently closed tabs. Is there a way to restore that part/function of the browser?

In the older version (do not know which number), there was an easy way to view all the recently closed tabs from a drop-down menu, which could be accessed from the top-left of the browser.
Now, you have to go to History>View History Sidebar. And even then, there is no view for the recently closed tabs.
I liked the simplicity of being able to see the last tab that had been closed, and the one before that, and the one before that — all in chronological order. Now, there is no way to tell which tabs/links were closed when.
I hope this makes sense. ... I even installed a few add-ons to help me with this issue, but they didn't do the job quickly and easily.

That's not bad, but it does not give me control over opening the exact tab I need. I assume this opens all tabs that were closed in any given session? That could be a lot of tabs. I do miss the fine-grained control and convenience of the older version. Sorry, I sound picky, but this issue has really affected my browsing and working experience quite a bit.
Anyway, thank you for your time and help, Philipp.
Hopefully the developers will put it back in at some point.

  • My location bar autocompletes, replacing the already-typed text with the first few letters of the "switch to tab" URL; is there any way to change this?

If I have a mozilla.com window open and I try to type "mouse" to automatically search through my bookmarks and history for something on about mice, for example, the location bar changes the "mo" to "ht", due to the autocomplete replacing what I was typing with the URL of the mozilla.com tab, which starts with http://.
This is really annoying... since if I continue typing the word "mouse" it replaces it with "htuse". Which is useless to me, trying to search for mice.
    Any way to fix this?

There is a way that you can do this, but it does mean abandoning CNAME forwarding that you have already set up and just using ordinary masked web forwarding. In this way you can go to the web forwarding section at your domain name registrar and forward your domain name to web.me.com/username/sitename. This will re-direct your site in the way that you want, but because it is masked web forwarding, just your domain name will show as the url for every single page, so you cannot bookmark single pages of a site, just the whole site.
If you use an iWeb blog and you mess around with moving the pages around in your iDisk, then you will loose MobileMe features such as the ability to post comments and also as you have already found, when you publish from within iWeb, it automatically publishes to the same place on your iDisk and not where you have moved your site to.
If I were you I would set up an individual blog with WordPress or Blogger or something similar - if you have an ordinary web host you can upload WordPress there and this then has the advantage of you being able to use your domain name followed by blog or whatever. It is a lot simpler than fiddling around with the iWeb blogging system - I have a blog on my own site and I use WordPress. My site was designed using iWeb and I just create a link from my site to my blog at WordPress - couldn't be simpler really.

  • I can´t restore my tabs (and I´ve already checked the History-Recently Closed Tabs)

If, by accident, I click on the bottom part of Firefox (above Windows´ taskbar) the browser sort of minimizes and I can´t reopen it, I have to cancel everything I´m doing. As I usually work with many tabs, a pop-up asks me if I want Firefox to save my tabs for next start, and I click on "Yes", but then, when I open it, I can´t restore them at all, even if I go to History-> Recently Closed tabs...
    How can I solve this???
Please, I´d really appreciate it if you could help me, because this is so annoying, and makes me waste a lot of time!

Thanks for your quick response. I set Tools>Options>General>Show my windows and tabs from last time as you told me, but it didn´t work. I also disabled add ons and ran the Safe Mode, though I still got no solution, so this is my Troubleshooting Info:

  • I have a search window on a new tab that I don't want - how do I change it to show me recently closed tabs and other options?

When I installed the Conduit toolbar, I must have changed a setting because I now see the Conduit Apps search on a new tab rather than my former list of recently closed tabs and other options. How do I change what appears on the new tab when I ask for one to be opened?

  • Ctrl + Shift + T doesn't work anymore. History -- Recently Closed Tabs still works. Other hotkeys still work.

I am using Nightly-Elm 21.0a1 Recently Ctrl + Shift + T stopped working. History --> Recently Closed Tabs still works. Other hotkeys also still work.
I already tried Safe Mode, didn't work. In a new profile it does work.
This guy (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/853883) seemed to have the same problem. The solution offered was to transfer some files from a fresh profile. I am not sure what files to transfer. I tried the prefs.js, but that didn't help.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • Suddenly with version 9 and 10 i cant use the shortcut command of ctrl+shift+t to open the most recently closed tab.

Suddenly with version 9 and 10 i cant use the shortcut command of ctrl+shift+t to open the most recently closed tab. a feature used several times a day, previously. This is very Frustrating to me, i have tried looking up a tool keyconfig 20110522 and looked that it says that ctrl+shift+t is the right command, but i still cant use it WHY oh WHY?? if i could get some help figuring this out it would be so awesome, cause i love Firefox, been using it almost daily for the last 10 or so years and i don't intend to switch soon.

    Hi,
Please check if this happens in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode.] This is a temporary diagnostic session and you can exit anytime and start Firefox normally again. This session disables all the '''Extensions''', themes ('''Appearance''') and '''Plugins''' in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons'''.

  • How do i delete "recently closed tabs" and "recently closed windows"?

I simply can not get rid of cache with recently opened tabs and recently opened windows.

Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak and any existing files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js .
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Session_Restore
You can (temporarily) set the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo] to ''0'' to clear the ''Recently Closed Tabs'' list.
Use the ''Reset'' context menu item to re-enable ''Undo Closed Tabs'' with the default value if you want to re-use that feature.
You can clear "Recently Closed Windows" if you restore a window and open a blank tab (Ctrl T) and close all other tabs with a middle click.
If you close the window with only that empty tab then that window is removed from the list.
To avoid that make sure that you close all tabs before closing a window.
Set the pref '''browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab''' to ''false'' on the about:config page to prevent closing the last tab from closing the browser.

  • Is it possible to eliminate recently closed tabs and windows to insure complete privacy

There is a setting to eliminate history being saved, but by clicking on recently closed windows, for example, at least some history becomes immediately available, and is not eliminated by setting the history feature to never retain history. Is there a way to eliminate any possibility that someone could discover your search activities beyond the history setting?

It is best to avoid opening windows and only open links in a tab.<br />
Firefox will always remember at least one window.

You can (temporarily) set the pref browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo to 0 to clear the "Recently Closed Tabs" list.<br />
If you want to re-use the "Recently Closed Tabs" feature (Undo Closed Tabs) then you can reset the pref browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo to the default value via the right-click context menu.

  • Undoing 'Recently Closed Tabs' no longer available - please help!

I find myself unable to access the 'undo closed tab' option, which I have previously found so useful. When I go to History > Recently Closed Tabs, the Recent Closed Tabs entries are greyed-out. How can I reactivate this essential functionality please?

-> Tap '''ALT''' key or press '''F10''' to show the Menu Bar
-> go to Help Menu -> select '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled'''
Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Now do this:
-> Update Firefox to the latest version by going to Help Menu -> About Firefox -> click '''Check for Updates''' -> if an updated version is found then download the latest version and install it. After that follow these steps:
-> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> unselect All Unwanted toolbars
-> click the Favicon on SearchBar -> click '''Manage Search Engines''' -> select all Unwanted Search Engines and click '''Remove''' -> click OK
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious Extensions (Add-ons) -> Restart Firefox
You can enable your Known & Trustworthy Add-ons later. Check and tell if its working.

  • Why does my reopening my most recently closed tab (CTRL+SHIFT+T) open the tab in a new tab group in beta 9?
