I don't want soundtrack in iMovie to mimic edits I make in footage

Hello,
I'm using iMovie 11 v. 9.0.4.
I'm creating a complex slideshow to go along with a complex soundtrack. I have the audio separated from the photos, but every time I make some sort of edit in the photos, an edit is likewise made in the audio soundtrack. I would like the soundtrack to just sit there and not mimic the edits I make in the photos. Is there a way to accomplish this?
Thanks for your help!
-alex.

1. You can not trim off the part of the title where it fades in or out.
Yes you can using a application like QT Pro ($30) or MPEG Streamclip (free). (I.e., "EXTERNALLY" as stated above.)
2. I am going to need to overlay a png picture over a video, which I don't believe I can do in iMovie HD.
But you can with iMovie '08 as per response to your original post.

Sorry but I know of no way of not backing up for a PC.

  • I don't want to use Yahoo for searching, but Firefox makes me

For some reason, whenever I use the search bar, Yahoo operates as the search engine. I don't want to use Yahoo. How to I get it to go away so Firefox uses Google instead?

The Firefox "address bar" is known as the "Location bar". The article that describes your issue is [[Location bar search]] - it explains how to change the Internet Keyword search service in the [[Location bar search#w_internet-keyword-search|Internet Keyword search]] section, under
[[Location bar search#w_changing-the-keyword-service|Changing the keyword service]]
To change it to Google (the default service), enter '''about:config''' in the Location bar (address bar), find the preference <nowiki>keyword.URL</nowiki> and then right-click on it and select "Reset", as explained in the article.
P.S. I'm wondering how it got switched to Yahoo in the first place .... maybe a Yahoo toolbar or other add-on you installed?

  • I don't want the editor to automatically stack edited photos. How do I turn it off?

I do not want the editor to automatically stack edited photos in the organizer. How do I turn it off?

How do you DISABLE the Organizer?   So that I don't have to uncheck the box each time I save a photo.   Nothing in the Help section.
You can't disable the Organizer but if you don't check the box, you don't have to do it next time, this choice is 'sticky'. If it's not for you, I suggest that you delete the editor preferences (menu Edit/preferences, general in recent PSE versions), you have a button to click on.

  • Down load manager keeps downloading file that I don't want. And even worse is the manager makes copies of that like download file(1) download file(2)

    For example
    Tears in heven(1).mp3
    Tears in heven(2).mp3
    Tears in heven(3).mp3
    Tears in heven(4).mp3
    Tears in heven(5).mp3
    Tears in heven(6).mp3
    Tears in heven(7).mp3
    Tears in heven(8).mp3
    Tears in heven(9).mp3
And it occured every time when I open fire fox. I already deleted the file, paused that and canceled down load. But dosn't work at all. It drives me crazy. Please help me.

I assume that you deleted the downloads.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder?

I upgraded spotify to premium, but my playlists still shuffle. I don't want them to shuffle. How do I make it so I can just listen to my music in the order I have my playlists?? I'm using a samsung galaxy 4.

To play songs without shuffling them select a song to play or press shuffle songs, then open the now playing page by clicking on the song playing at the bottom of the screen, then press the shuffle icon so that it is white not green :)

  • What is the best format to choose when converting mts files to fit well with iMovie? I am using iCoolsoft for conversions and can pick from almost any kind of formats to convert to. I don't want to get the black frames... what do you advice me to pick?

I have lots of MTS files stored on an external hard drive that I want to use in my iMovie films. Now, as you know, iMovie doesn't like them. I have bought iCoolsoft for converting my video files into any format I want but now I've got another problem: what format is the best for iMove? Some of the formats I've tried are giving me a black frame around the video clips and some are bigger and other smaller but anyway I don't want them at all! Can anyone recommend what format to convert to to keep the original clip's size and no frames and still be liked by iMovie to be able to import them?
Much thankful for any kind of support and reply on this one.
    Eva

The format iMovie uses when you edit video after it's imported is Apple Intermediate Codec, it will have the file ending .mov but internally it's set so the Mac can edit individual frames easier and play them back easier at full speed. If you have the option of saving to QuickTime .mov see if there is a pulldown list of all the different "codecs", that's the style or flavor of compression applied to the video frames. If Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) appears on that pull-down list choose that as your codec when you save to .mov.

  • IMovie is outputting my movie with big black bars at top and bottom that I don't want

    Quicktime: Ver 10.3
    iMovie: Ver 10.0.5
    OS: OS X Ver 10.9.4
So, let me try and explain...
I have recorded gameplay footage of my game directly from my Mac screen using Quicktime's Record Screen option. I've tried recording both in fullscreen mode (with my game also running in fullscreen mode) and a section of the screen by dragging the mouse to select a 640X960 box (with my game running in windowed mode which is displayed at 640x960 resolution).
This initial recording direct from the screen displays fine, both when I view it in windowed mode and when I view it fullscreen, with the height of the game stretching to the full height of the video area but obviously with big black borders to either side in fullscreen mode (as it's basically iPhone ratio in portrait mode).
    WindowedFullscreen
This ^^^ is how they should look.
The problem is when I try to import the movie into iMovie, mess around with some fade-ins and music and stuff and then output the edited movie via iMovie...
When I then try to view this outputted movie in windowed mode on certain sites (Kickstarter) my game footage doesn't take up the full height of the video and instead floats in the middle with big black bars at the top and bottom, which I don't want. It's fine when I go fullscreen but the problem is that when I load this video into Kickstarter it shows the non-fullscreen view of the video with this big black border and it looks really amateur.
This is what Kickstarter shows in windowed mode i.e. the way you see Kickstarter videos by default when you press Play; unless I go fullscreen and then it takes up the full heigh of the view.
Note: Windowed mode actually looks fine when viewed directly on my Mac but I know it's not Kickstarter that is causing the issue because I can see in the thumbnail preview on my Mac that the video is somehow encoded with the big black bars at the top and bottom. Also, I uploaded the unedited videos to Kickstarter just to check and they display fine. So it's definitely iMovie that is adding these annoying black borders at the top and bottom for whatever reason (and I'm not intentionally scaling the video down in iMove or anything like that as far as I know). I also can't use the unedited footage however because it has no sound and no transitions etc.
Does anyone know what night be causing this and how to get rid of it.

You are lucky to see anything - iMovie 5 is not really compatible with Snow Leopard, which only supports iMovie 6 and above.
Snow Leopard only runs on Intel Macs. iMovie 5 was never written, AFAIK, for Intel, just for the PPC Macs they had in those old days!

  • What is the best way to copy a DVD i made from iMovie?  It was HD720 and I don't want to lose any quality in the copies.

What is the best way to copy a DVD I made from iMovie?  It was HD720 and I don't want to lose any quality in the copies.  I need to distribute it to about 20 people. It's 42 minutes long.

You will need to save it as a video to the camera roll.
Import it into windows as you would a photo.
Then purchase DVD authoring software, and create a DVD.

  • Can I universally change the title styles in my iMovie? I don't want to retype everything in the new style!

Can I universally change the title styles in my iMovie? They're all set in "Lower Third" and I need to change all of them to "Gradient White" and I don't want to retype everything in the new style! It'll take forever, as I have many titles in this movie.

Interesting.  http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov9c5e9641f  describes how to change a title.  I tried selecting 2 titles then chaging the style but it didn't work for either.  So it seems the answer is no (though it should be yes).

  • I made a movie in  Imovie and want to burn a DVD but don't want the Idvd  selections How did just burn my imovie the wayit is

How do I get my imovie to be burnt onto dvd without having Idvd's themes?

In iDVD it's not exactly possible to make a DVD without menu, but there's a few workarounds:
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme"by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
On the other hand, you could also place a text saying "The End" in that menu ....
    3. Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just un-check the appropriate check box
    4. The "hard way": postproduction with myDVDedit
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:

The performance fixes is a biggy for me, though the other missing
stuff I use makes me have to use both versions for various things:
"but they seem to be committed to another release/version."
Well ... now that's the rub. I would actually welcome this intermediate version to play with (even with the cost of upgrading) if I could rely on it to be finalized into 6.0, full featured, without it taking as long as it has to Upgrade from AA3.0. I would say it was a VERY smart move to give us a preview of 6.0, if I felt in, say, six months they would provide us the fully functional update. But, HOW many years has it been. I felt screwed over while they played around with Sound Booth.
I was with you for a minute in most of what you said, until your credibility went down a couple notches with me on the statement trivializing midi functionality. I though that was a very clueless statement:
"but I have no need for a midi controller and if I want a drummer to keep perfect time I'll get a drum machine."
It does make some of your other statements suspect, tho I won't take it as far as therealdobro's "what's your stake" question.

  • Bought iMovie on iPhone 4s and in the middle of the installation, stops and says "iMovie is applicable to ios 6 only". Is there an option to have iMovie applicable to ios 5 if I don't want to upgrade?

Recently bought iMovie on my iPhone 4s and in the middle of the installation, it stopped and says "iMovie is applicable to ios 6 only".
Is there an option to have iMovie applicable to ios 5 if I don't want to upgrade?
If not, I want my money back....

If the app requires iOS6, it requires iOS6.
iOS requirements are stated on the app page before purchase.
If you want a refund, request one from iTunes customer support.

  • I want to use iMovie 6 on my new MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.5. It won't download. Can I download Snow Leopard instead and use iMovie 6 with that older OS?

I have a MacBook Pro I recently purchased 'cause my old G4 just couldn't output my video films properly. My new MacBook Pro is running 10.7.5 OS Lion. Don't like iMovie 11 and want to use iMovie 6. It won't download on Lion. Could I download Snow Leopard (deleting OS 10.7.5) and use iMovie 6 then? I saw a previous thread that said that could be done.

AppleMan...I have the same iMac you have...i-7 16GB with a SSD....just bought it second hand and it is about 1.5 years old....it was maxed out with upgrades when the original owner bought it.  It was also restored back to factory settings prior to me taking possession.
I am making home movies in iMovie 11....max length 30 minutes or less.  I am totally new to this editing.  I am using HD footgage filmed from my Hero GoPro 3.  I am finding that the movies that I am creating are skipping, staggering, hanging up etc...usually where I had transitions.  I am certain I have enough power and memory in my iMac, so what's the issue?  I read one of your other posts about optimizing each event or clip to 1080p?  Is this what I need to do for every clip I import?  Can I do this for all the clips at once on import?  I also read that I may need to export the movie to quick time for smooth playback??
Any help you can provide would be appreciated!
    Sincerely,
    Matt
PS=How do I e mail you directly here in the posts?  I went to your profile but didn't see any "e mail" or "contact" member button to click on.

  • Don't want autoplay

I don't want autoplay for my slideshow DVD, but I seem to get it no matter what. I have a cool menu and I want the menu to be the 1st thing a viewer sees when they put the DVD in. But as soon as I pop in the DVD, it always goes straight to the full slideshow + music. I dragged a picture to the project icon (1st icon in DVD map), but that doesn't even show up when I insert the DVD. It always goes straight to slideshow.
Anyone know what I can do??
