I don't want to save recent tabs history

So, my problem is similar to: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=1464605
I use to open AND CLOSE many tabs, which ends up in huge memory usage, and finally crash. This happens every 15-20 mins, which is extremely annoying. And this doesn't happen to chrome.
So, there are 2 things that I would like:
1)Do not store the recently closed tabs. I don't need firefox to use memory for such a task. If I want to revisit a previous tab, I don't mind waiting a few more seconds. In other words, when opening and closing 50 tabs, I want the memory to decrease to the initial levels.
2)Another feature that would be useful: I would like firefox to have active only a few tabs (for example 10 or so) and, if you have more than that open, to make some tabs inactive (and when I click inactive tabs, they just reload). (I'm not sure, but I thing I have noted something similar when I open around 50 tabs). This will result to fewer active tabs, and less memory usage.
Some notes: I have already tried safe mode/ disabled addons, so don't bother suggesting it.
My pc memory is 4Gb, but that's not the problem. The memory usage rarely reaches 60% when firefox crashes.

Thanks for trying but... did you understand what I asked? I didn't just complain about high memory usage. The thing I asked is clear:
I just want to avoid this annoying characteristic of firefox: continuously increasing RAM usage even when I close all my tabs. I have to restart firefox (or wait to crash) in order to reset the RAM usage. That is basically what I asked.
And, as an extra, I asked if you know a way, if I have opened many tabs, to make inactive some of them to save memory.
And I don't want to use private browsing or disable addons... I've already said that I've tried FF without addons and the RAM didn't decrease much.
And, anyways, can someone answer why RAM usage is always continuously increasing when you open and CLOSE the tabs? If the recently closed tabs are saved to the hard drive and NOT to the RAM then that doesn't make sense.
Thanks again for your time.

There can be various causes for this:
[[Firefox does not ask to save tabs and windows on exit]]

• On exit, I am not asked if I want to save existing tabs and it closes all of them without saving. How do I get F-F to save my tabs on exit?

I upgraded from version 3.5 In that version when I wanted to quit for the day, I could hit exit and it would ask me if I wanted to quit or save tabs and exit.
In version 4 when I hit file, then exit, it does not ask if I want to save the tabs that are open, it just closes everything and does not save them. When I restart, I get a new tab window, but none of the other tabs I was working on are there.
I need to keep the tabs I am working on available to me; that is what I liked best about the old version.

Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
# Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
# Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
# Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
# Repeat this for these 3 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning'''
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
# Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
# Go to the General panel
# Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

Question
The latest version of Firefox no longer asks if you want to save open tabs for your next session..I HATE not having that option. What were they thinking? (I think this is self explanatory)

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page.
Another possibility is to use:
* [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox (Tools) > Options] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

(The modifications I made are not there, so it's not really saving but why the date is changing then?)
Please find the cause of it! Thank you!

All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

• Firefox 4 does not ask me if I want to save my tabs when I quit. Tried all the suggestions in Firefox Help and still have the problem.

I just got a new MacBook Pro and installed Firefox 4. When I go to quit, I do not get the box that asks if I want to save the tabs before quitting, and they have not been saved. I tried all the Firefox suggestions on the Help Page, and nothing fixed this problem.

You may well be able to restore the tabs even if there is no explicit message on closing that asks you if you wish to restore.
You will be able to change firefox 4 to ask you by changing preferences, I am not sure it is covered in any Knowledge Base article, butit is often mentioned, see for instance: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/799856

• In the past, when I clicked to "close" Firefox and multiple tabs were open, I would get a box that asked if I wanted to save all tabs in my Bookmarks . Now I don't see this option.

Apparently the only way to bookmark all tabs now is to use some clunky key combination. Why have you made it more difficult to use?
I have given all the details that I know how to give. I can find no place that I can check a box or otherwise tell Firefox to bookmark all open tabs under the same new bookmark folder entry.

Firefox 4 and later versions save the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox") if you want to restore multiple windows.
• I want to save multable tabs when closing so when i restart i can resume previous sessions

i was able to save multable tabs before turning off my computer.
when i restarted my computer i would see the same tabs as i did before i turned off my computer.
i want this feature again please
i cannot find it anymore

Firefox now automatically saves open tabs when closing. When you re-start Firefox, do one of these:
#Restore from History:
#*click ''Firefox button> History > Restore Previous Session''
#*click ''History > Restore Previous Session'', if using the Menu Bar
#Restore from the about:home page:
#*type '''''about:home''''' in the Location/URL bar and choose "Restore Previous Session"
#*See https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/common-questions-after-updating-firefox#w_why-werent-my-tabs-and-windows-restored
#Change your home page setting:
#*Change Options > General tab, change "When Firefox starts:" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

IMPORTANT:
*You must close Firefox using ''Firefox button > Exit/Close'' (or ''File > Exit/Close'' if using the Menu Bar) for this to work properly
*You must have "Remember my browsing history" selected; click ''Firrefox button > Options > Privacy'' (or ''Tools > Options > Privacy,'' if using the Menu Bar'')

• Don't want to save files online.

Hello...
My computer is Mac. As I downloaded a PDF file, I clicked File --> Save As.
Then I got 3 lines:
Line 1: Save as (file name)
Line 2: Where (desktop)
Line 3: save to "online account"/ "acrobat.com" / "new account"
Without noticing being given three options, I clicked "online account.", and then I discovered what I just clicked...
It is a confidential file, and I don't want it to be saved online.
(already saved successfully onto my desktop in my computer, which is OK.)
Is there any way to make sure that there is no online version of it?
Please help! Thank you!

There wasn't any offline option after clicking "Save As". But as I checked cloud, there is no online version of the file. So it's solved.
Thank you for answering!

• I want to open files from a link but I don't want to save it

Hello,
I use firefox mostly as a browser and everytime I click on a link on the web to open a file that file opens but it also goes to my download folder.
The dialog box opens and asks do I want to save or open and even when I put open it saves to my download folder.
Anyone know how to fix this. My download folder is overflowing.
Blaine

Downlaods folder is a temporary internet files folder pretty much. you could just clean it out every once in a while. if you download google chrome you can just open it with google chrome. i dont think that thats an option with firefox but i could be wrong.
Hope i helped!
