Hey everyone...
Has anyone noticed that their Powerbook G4 laptop has been crapping out on them in the past week...
I've used my sporadically since I bought it and recently upgraded it and the next thing you know I'm getting dimmed screens and resetting PRAM like a fiend. Now I would take the computer to the Mac Geniuses but all they can tell me is that it's clearly the logic board...but get this the logic board was replaced a year ago by the Mac Geniuses...are they giving me faulty parts? Also they gave me an interesting tidbit of info...that they usually stop service on models after 5 years so if I wanted to repair the TiBook now is the time because in 6 months ..."who knows".
Now if I'm correct a lot of people have Powerbooks or **** for that matter Apple products from more than five years back and they are telling us (with a smirking grin of course) that what I buy today will be obsolete in 5 years if (or when) it breaks down. If that is what they are saying...why have AppleCare or better yet why even buy any Apple product at all.
Now don't get me wrong I'm a diehard Mac user ever since I touched a IIe but I just find it suspicious that my TiBook decided to up and die out on me the exact day the new MacBooks come out. Let me know what ya'll think...
Look on it as an excuse to go out and buy a new MacBook Pro.
Poor me, I've got a fully operational 15" 500MHz PowerBook G4 and a fully operational 17" 1.67GHz PBG4, that I'll have to use until kingdom come before I can justify a nice new MacBook or MacBook Pro (waiting for Intel Core 2 Duo in the MBPro of course).
The 15" PBG4 has been around the world a few times, up mountains in south america, to the south pole, to and from and around new zealand, across the arabian peninsula and been carted around in my hand luggage on hundreds of domestic business flights, dropped on more than one occasion and it still works perfectly, apart from a battery that has a life span shorter than a chocolate teapot. Did buy the 17" PBG4 18 months ago as I though this was on it's last legs, but a new. bigger hard disk means it just won't die. And every client site I go to with it draws the praise "Wow, is that new ?". Grrrr.

With green chroma concept, I removed the green background. Now the green background is seen black. I don't want to have any other background clip, but I would like to change the background black to white. Same like the advertisement clip in the Apple Website. Please help me.
If you want the whole of the project background to be white, you can change the colour in FCP X preferences.
If you just want white for a section or clip, use a custom Generator from the Generators Library and change it to white in the Inspector.

I would like to freeze saving to icloud and perhaps transfer some of that data to my own external hard drive. I don't want to lose anything already stored there, but don't want to purchase anymore cloud space. How do i accomplish this?
It seems that saving to iCloud is a default. My Pages documents automatically save there unless I change to save to destination. I probably just need help in setting up the cloud. When I tried to change the setting, though, it told me that if I made the change, all data on icloud would be eliminated and i don't want that. I would ideally like to save everything on my external HD and not bother with iCloud. Certainly don't want to buy more storage space. Thanks for replying so promptly.

When using FaceTime, my iMac makes noises. It dings like I am receiving an email and sometimes sounds like a busy signal, but this is while I am talking to someone. Any suggestions?

I can't answer your Thunderbird "configuration" questions, because I'm in the living room, using the crap Vista laptop, on which I plan to install Thunderbird, and then take Windoze Mail out in the street and drive over it a few times.. I'll get back to you one way or the other, and let you know if your instructions solved the problem, or not..
I don't understand why Thunderbird "out of the box", so to speak, simply doesn't forward HTML emails with embedded graphics, (like Outlook Excess, and Winblows Mail do).. without having to go through those steps. I personally HATE HTML email, but over the years, it's become more and more prevelant.. so it's a problem I must fix..

When selecting the "Messages" sceen on my IPad, the iMessage "Sign in" box appears on the screen. I don't want to create a new Apple ID but I can't close this box which is preventing me using the normal text message screen. How do I get rid of this sign-in box?

I made my apple id today on my ipad 2 ios 6 update and i went straight to logging in on iMessage, i logged in, after reading i clicked next, i got the email to verify on my ipod so i verified but as it was still verifying on the ipad it went right back to the log in box. this repeated itself over and over, help? -

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?

The only programs that can be loaded on an ipad are those found in the app store. -
My iPod won't turn on even when I plug it into my charger. I don't want to spend too much fixing it but I need to use it. Please help!!
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My husband and I each just got iPhone 4S. We also purchased the New iPad.
We've set up individual iCloud and iTunes accounts.
We each have contacts that we don't want to share between our iPhones, but would like to share on the iPad.
I'm seeking help as to how to sync these accounts properly to obtain this goal.If you intend to "share" the iPad, that's not gonna work if you both have separate Apple ID's & iTunes accounts. Like iPhone, iPad is not presently designed to be shared like a computer. Confirm if this is your intent.

Logic Pro wanting to sound like 1958
I am recording a Rock Steady/Ska band that I play in. These will just be live 1 take recordings in our rehearsal space. I am treating the room with duvets very heavily and I will play around with the many mikes we have going through my Apogee Ensemble.
The Question. Any suggestions on how to get it to sound like it was recorded sometime in the late 50's or early 60's. The band does a great job already with their gear and exceptional playing but I was just wondering if there was a good mix of plugs I could use.

-AllanI've had a good success with recording a Rockabilly band wanting to make it sound authentic, but using just one mic (AKG C12VR) set to OMNI in front of the lead singer, with the band and amplifiers positioned around the studio behind him. And nothing else. Just light eq, compression, plate reverb and slap delay.
Surprisingly enough it gives exactly the right kind of sound, the double bass sounded distant and slappy, the drums sounded thin and roomy, the vocals sounded hugely above the mix. It all sounded like it was band playing in a room together in mono with loads of echo. Just the way they like it! Compared to the cd's they brought in to reference to, old 50's rock n roll and rockabilly it sounded just right! Of course you need more confidence in what you're doing to take this route. You need to know from the get go, that it's the right way to go. But when you see the band smile from ear to ear and say "FINALLY THE SOUND!" you know it's the right move and putting up more mics would be a mistake.
If it's your band then you have enough room to experiment to try something like this and it not matter too much if it doesn't come out right the first time around.
Personally if I wanted to make something that sounded like authentic ska, I'd look for a good condition 4-8 channel tape machine and use that, throw up 6 mics, ribbons where possible (as mentioned before), mix it quite roughly, the bounce it back and forth a bit, while doing some over dubs and it'll become nicely saturated and compressed. It'll cost about £300 for a decent tape machine and a load of tape, not much compared to your Ensemble!!! -
I don't want to share my apple id with my family anymore but I own over 2000 songs and a few other things I bought so would I be able to get them if I got a new apple id?
You don't. Everythng downloaded with one Apple ID can not be transfered to another Apple ID. So you would need to buy it a second time. This is one of the Pit Falls of the whole Download only model.
That is why I refuse to buy things like music or movies that are tied to a specific User Name, ID. -
Might sound like a newbie question but please help! (WRT610N)
I purchased the WRT610N to replace my old WRT54G. I like the router overall, but I am running into glich after glich. I figured out most of them up to this point, but now I'm running out of ideas. Before the firmware upgrade release on 1-21-09 I was able to access my USB storage drive via hostname on my local network. For example any shares on my local network show up under my workgroup in windows Vista/XP (mixed enviornment). Now after the firmware update no matter what I do if I want to access my shares I have to type \\myroutersip\myshare. I have gotten so used to just going to my network places and and selecting WRT610N (which was the hostname) entering my predefined password,and accessing my share. How do I fix this? I thought about enabling/editing the hostfile, but I should not have to do that (at least I didn't before). If anyone knows how to accomplish this please reply. TIA
There is no such settings your router, which will disable your access to the Drive by the Host name.If you have any Firewall or Antivirus you can disable it and try accessing your Drive with the Host name.May be you can try one settings on your router, Login to your router setup page, click on the Storage Tab and Below you need to click on the Sub tab "Media Server" and Enable "UPnP Media Server" and click on Save Settings. I think this might solve your problem.

The sync-ing program will warn me that it's about to make massive changes to my contacts on my iPhone i.e. add in a whole bunch of contacts that I don't want on my phone. At that point I can cancel the sync and stop those contacts from being added. But as a result, my calendar is not getting updated. Seems to me there should be a way of controlling what gets sync-ed and what doesn't. But so far I haven't been able to find a way to do that. Thoughts?
Incidentally, I have no idea if I'm in the right community...Don't know about your contacts, but for you calendar be sure you have selected your iCloud calendar as your default calendar on your phone. Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Defaut Calendar>choose Calendar under your iCloud email address (not Calendar under On My iPhone). You might want to review this to be sure you have set up iCloud correctly: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/.

Sounds like a crossed line but is it?
I have a BT landline with BT infinity fibre optic broadband and BT vision, all of which I'd been very happy with. However, about 8 months ago, I started noticing a click on the line when making or receiving calls. It sounds just as if someone has picked up an extension somewhere in the house and is listening in but you can't hear any background noise or talking, just a change in the sidetone (although I have a few sockets around the house, none have extensions connected as I have 4 BT freelance cordless handsets). I've had the engineers round twice and they can't fix it. The first one did witness the fault and said it must be in the exchange and went off to fix it but no luck. The second one said that he'd get the exchange equipment changed out just as a precausion. Personally, I think it is a contact with someone elses line because the clicks are so intermittent. Sometimes it happens 10 times in a call and then it will go several days without happening. Leaving the house with just one phone connected via the master with all BB off is very inconvenient and so far I've not been able to reproduce the fault with just the master connected. I have changed out the modem, the Freelance phone set and the home hub 3 for spares, so I really do not think it is internal equipment but it's driving us mad. I'd happily pay the fee if they could fix it but the engineers just rely on test gear these days, They won't go off and do a visual inspection of the DP, cab, fibre cab and MDF. Where are the SFIOs? (special fault investigation offices)

A few weeks back, I had connected an old 746 type bell telephone (with a pstn plug on it) to the line and all we could hear all evening was the bell just tinging every now and then. Again, just like someone else had picked up an extension. As already stated, I don't have any other extensions, there is no other equipment connected anywhere. Just the modem and home hub 3.
I have had the BT Freelance cordless phone base disconnected and a wired phone plugged in and it still happens.
As you can probably tell from my use of terminology, I am an ex-BT technician but from many years ago, working in clockwork (Strowger) exchanges long before broadband, so I'm out of touch with most of it.
About 5 years ago, I had a second line coming into the same house, so 2 lines were running through the same dropwire. If that line is in contact with another working line, would it induce a click in my line as it runs in the same dropwire?? I am clutching at straws now, as you can see, but I really need help on this one and I don't see the point of reporting it conventionally again as all they do is test the line ans say it's OK. -
I don't want notes in my yahoo e-mail but I do want them on my IPod, is it possible?
I want to know if there is a way I can stop my notes from showing in my yahoo mail? I have lost so many notes from deleting them in yahoo, not realizing it would delete from my IPod, and turning off notes on my IPod. I want them on my IPod but not in my yahoo e-mail account. I have Icloud and have notes turned off. When I go into my yahoo account I lose all of the notes when I turn it off. I even deleted the "notes" folder in my yahoo e-mail only to have them show up again once I write a new notes. Is there any way to do that or is that not an option?
Go to your Hotmail account on the web (NOT in mail), make a new folder (or folders) for the mail you want to keep and move the messages into it.
Mail (and all other email clients) will download all messages in the inbox unless previously downloaded. That means downloaded with the client you are attaching now.
Until that is done do not setup the account in mail.
