Yes you can use diffrent apps with tons less problems then the virus called iTunes7.
You can use a older version of iTunes like say version 6.0.5 that is more stable.
6.0.5 will also work with your movies.
I suggest you unstall everything that was made by Apple QuickTime, iTunes, iPod and such first before you install new software and reinstall just the drivers for the iPod and then the new Apps.
Sadly you can not just use Windows Explorer to move files on to the iPod unless you use....

Maverick won't permit syncing Address Book or Calendar by USB cable from my MacBook Air to my iPhone and iPad and permits syncing only by iCloud. Mountain Lion permitted this via the Info tab on iTunes. I don't want to use iCloud. I live in Australia where there are good privacy laws protecting citizens. I do not want to be forced to use iCloud when the data sits in the USA with weaker privacy laws and also able to be seen by the US Government under the Patriot Act. Further I suspect Apple will interrogate my contacts and calendar for commercial purposes and I do not want that either.
I chose to synch my calendar and contacts with my iphone and ipad. I have relied for years on carrying around my phone with my diary on it. I can no longer do that.
Whoever made this decision at Apple has to be someone who knows little about the world. I can actually see EU regulators getting very annoyed by this.
I too woud like the itunes mac to iphone/ipad local backup given back.

Don't want to use Mail app any more; how do I delete all the downloaded mail?
New Macbook Air here. I never used the Mail app before and thought I might try it, but I seem to have accidentally downloaded like 30,000 old Gmail messages to my computer and now I just don't want to use Mail any more. How do I delete all these messages from my computer and just get on with my life? I don't need all this old mail taking up space.
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List. -

What can I say, I am a massive fan of your work. I have totally bought into your brand....
My problem is I don't want to use microsoft software on my gorgeous shiny mac, or any of my apple products for that matter. The issue is I don't appear to have any choice if I want to communicate professionally with the rest of the business world.
I love the new mac mail in OS X Lion, but when I send an email to an outlook user it looks like Johnny age 5 composed it.
I'm not asking for much from you IT giants, why can't you get together and agree on a code/platform/whatever it needs to make emails (which in my opinion don't appear to be the most complex of documents) backward compatable. Nearly everyone has an email signature with some text and a small graphic, what's so hard about having the end user display that correctly?
Then there is iWork, again a lovely product to work in, you could argue not quite as powerful as excel, but it works. Albeit you can't lock documents etc when sending them to 'PC users'
When are we likely to see a change?
All I want is to use my mac and software specific to it without having to subscribe to the awful giant microsoft.

Don't Want To Use Apple Config, Device Enroll Program
I have been reading a lot on how to implement profiles onto devices like the iPhone, this functionality is what I am looking for, mainly with iPhone for some businesses and schools I work with. I have red that with the new technology you don't have to us Apple Configurator, and I have red about the Device Enroll Program... for my purposes I don't want to use any Apple method (nor would the situation I have even qualify for the Device Enroll Program) I really would like to deploy custom configuration profiles, with restrictions specified by my customers.
I have been scanning the developer guides and and slowly grasping what I need to do...it sounds like I don't need to use Apple methods if I don't want CORRECT??? If I can implement custom profiles and in some cases it might just be three iPhones... I was hoping to find the proper guidance for implementing those custom profiles, thru the webpage method or e-mail message is more suitable for my needs.
I found the Apple play by play on how to do that, but sometimes for myself finding another perspective helps me learn... Any places anyone has found that can give that play by play on how to deliver those custom profiles thru web page or e-mail?

Making Numbers '09 the default whilst keeping Pages 5
1. Move any new iWork apps in another clearly labelled folder (I created a new folder in Applications & named it iWork 13)
2. Menu > Apple > System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy > drag the above folder into the list
2) Move the new iWork folder into the trash (temporarily)
3) Select any Numbers file in Finder > Menu > Info (cmd+i) > Open with: > Pages '09 > Change all
4) Re the new iWork folder from the trash (right-click > Put back)
Pages 5 should no longer appear as a default App, and you won't have to keep a copy in a separate drive or dmg.
IMPORTANT: Make a note of where and how Pages was installed for the next App Store update and temporarily move it back there before putting it away again in the folder concealed from Spotlight. -
How do I set up a second Apple ID to use iCloud? My office is going to use the iCloud calendar on our PCs and I don't want to use my personal ID. Thanks for any suggestions.
You really don't want to do that, operate an iPad with 2 different ID's.
I'm presuming you have a work iPad and you want to put some non work bought apps on it. You will have issues, like half the iPad not working while the other half does.
Probably not something you want to explain to your IT department. -
New Photo app on Mac.
How can I (automatically) import new photos of the photo stream on my local disc (Mac)? Don't want to use new icloud service. Simply import.
With iPhoto every new photo was automatically imported and saved on my local disk (with "full resolution" that's what I only need). In the new photo app I have still my photo stream and when I move a photo (drag and drop from the photo stream) to a new album it indicates a (plus). My understanding is that the photo is now copied to my local disk. But when I deleted the photo in the photo stream it was also deleted in the album !?
If that is the case I can use the photo stream only until I reach the max of 1.000 photos, then I have to delete photos and I will have no copy left.
How can I "physically" copy a photo of the photo stream to my local disk? I just want to "transfer" all pictures taken with Ipads, Iphones to my central storage on the Mac. Please don't propose to connect it via iTunes (cable) to the Mac.
Any other suggestions?

-TomThe amazing device cannot do it because no amazing developer has written an app for it. There is some interest, others have asked, but i have a hunch that the market is fairly limited, and no developer has jumped at the chance just yet.
Any sort of tethered approach means try to feed the material to the pad thru the cck. Which means the app would have to use the allowed/existing cck pathway in a manner that does not violate the sandbox rules. That may be the problem. -
Don't want to use new Numbers, but 'get info' fix doesn't work

I made the mistake of installing the new Numbers a month or two ago. I don't want to use the new Numbers because I need to work on the same documents on older machines that won't work with the new Numbers. On my machines with both versions of Numbers, I want to be able to just double-click on the documents and open with the older version. The usual fix is to use get info on a document, select the app I want to use for this type of document and then hit 'change all' for that type of doc. Well that's the theory at least. I've found that this setting doesn't stick in this case. (I've never seen this not work). It still opens with the new Numbers.
I've tried removing Numbers, but Software Update keeps nagging that there is an update available jfor Numbers, and wants to reinstall it. They 'dumbed down' Software Update so that you can't remove updates you don't want to be bothered by. (I hate it that Apple continually removes features, then adds them back in a year or two!) So I'm stuck.
Any one else have this happen? Any fixes?

when i unchek the card information it was show me an error!Though you are being asked for card details it doesn't necessarily mean that the card will be charged for the purchase (unless you want to gift content). Have you tried entering your card's details to confirm the account ? You should then be able to remove it.

then you will need to enter card details (debit cards are no longer accepted in all countries) before the account can be used to download any item from the store. -

I want to use money I already have redeemed in my iTunes account to by my sister an app as a gift. When I go to my computer and iTunes, it's asking me for CC info, I don't want to use a CC, I have $74 and change already in my account.
You can't use that money to buy gifts, gift cards, gift certificates, or otherwise transfer any portion of it to anyone other than Apple itself.

Wanted to include my sister and parents in the Family Sharing group under the iCloud app, but I don't want them using my credit card for their purchases. We just wanted to be able to share pictures and/or videos and find each other, if necessary. Is there a way around my card being the default for them when they go to purchase something?
If you don't want your sister to make purchases on your credit card, then Family Sharing is not an appropriate way to do what you want. You can use Find my Friends to locate each other and you can use Shared Photo Streams to share photos.

There is no option to reject an incoming call in locked screen, there must be an icon on the screen for one who don't want to use lock button several times, i did'nt face this problem in last ios 6.1.3.
