I dont have the Smart cover setting..!? How do I get it?

I just bought the ner iPad, and à smart cover.. But there isnt à setting fot it to activate the lockig mechanism. I have looken under settings>general.

You don't... If you restore the backup, it will restore the restrictions passcode.
Do you have your contacts, calendar, etc, synced to your computer? I'm not asking if you backed up, I'm asking if you synced... In other words, if you open Outlook, or Windows Address Book (I'm assuming you use a PC) are your contacts there?
If you have not been syncing your contacts, etc, you may have to restore so that you can set up the sync, get the contact data off the phone, then set it up as a new phone again, do not restore the backup, and set up the sync with your address book.

A quick run down for other readers.
Generally speaking iChat versions have number one less than the OS version they go with.
So iChat 3 comes in OS X 10.4.x
iChat 4 comes in OS X 10.5.x and so on.
Messages continues the same numbering system Starting at version 7 in OS X 10.8
Messages 8 comes with Mavericks (OS X 10.9.x)
iChat Updates come with the OS Updates but not at every occasion.
In OS X 10.5 for example iChat 4 gets to version 4.0.9
Messages 7 gets one update during all the OS X 10.8 updates to be version 7.0.1 at the "end"
However Apple seemed to have stopped this sub numbering in Messages (it is at build three in OS X 10.9.4)
Throughout it is important that the iChat or Messages version "matches" the OS X level it is supposed to go with.
Reinstalling earlier iChat version for Install Disks then requires you run the Combo update of the OS version you are using.
You cannot do this after Apple use the App Store to Upgrade/Update and you need to Reinstall the whole OS.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone (if you're using iOS 7), then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

from the menu with a keyboard icon in the menu bar, towards the right. By pressing modifier keys, you can see what characters correspond to any key combination. You can also produce a character by clicking it in the viewer.

How do I get past this to be able to purchase. I can purchase songs on my MAC and sync but itunes doesn't give the option to purchase ringtones on the MAC, just the iphone.

If the email hasn't arrived after a few hours and isn't in a spam filter, you need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, or clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed in either article, filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

Did you just purchase this iPad used? If so you have found the Activation Lock that prevents stolen and lost iPads from being activated. There is no way around this. Either have the original owner enter the requested information or return the iPad for a refund.

The first generation iPad cannot be updated past iOS 5.1.1
You may still be able to get compatible versions fo the Apps by downloading the App to iTunes on a computer or another device that does support the current App version using the same Apple Id you have on your iPad. With that done you can follow these instructions from your iPad to get a compatible version:
